Neither persistance nor focus are a given. You learn to develop them as a skill. Unfortunately, it's difficult to work on them in a vacuum: You need to feel drawn to a subject, supported by your peers and guided by professionals and experts. In October, four of the 2022 Summer School alumnae - Bukky (Ireland), Madalena (Portugal), Kristina (Sweden) and Elia (Greece) - spent an intense week in Brussels, at the heart of the European Union, ensuring that the priorities of Europe’s youth were acknowledged by policymakers. Our #NextGenChangemakers got the chance to grow their knowledge and their experience and to challenge their own ideas about the direction that they want to take in their lives. During their trip, they visited the European Parliament and spoke with inspiring female leaders from across the continent. The discussions focused on Europe’s quest for true and effective equality, young people’s role in the future of society, and the challenges that our digital world faces. While in Brussels, our future leaders attended executive meetings and also took part in high-level sessions on leadership, inclusion, sustainable development, cybersecurity and the twin transition. https://youtu.be/nDRCHGRq4MI

To empower women to become leaders of a stronger rural Europe with equality at its core, The European Leadership Academy created a unique experience: the Women’s Academy for Rural Innovation. This groundbreaking programme helps equip women with the skills they need to shape the digital age from the beauty of their own villages. The Academy’s inaugural edition took place from 23 to 28 October among the stunning landscapes of Castilla y León in Spain. It gathered talented women from 15 different European rural areas, all looking to make an impact in their own way. The six-day programme offered a perfect balance of masterclasses and team projects, active learning and group workshops, as well as themed cultural experiences. The participants learned about gender equality, sustainability and rural economics, and explored how they can be agents for change in their region. These driven #RuralChangeMakers learned from the expert speakers, such as Iratxe García Pérez, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Margaret Bateson-Missen, Pilar Alegría, Mary Coughlan, Aleksandra Przegalińska and many others. In stimulating programme sessions, they had a chance to join panel discussions, exchange views with mentors and work on projects with their peers. The students came away with a clearer vision for the future, inspiration and knowledge they need to make a difference, and a network of extraordinary women to count on for a lifetime of support and friendship.
