Women for Beer Brussels
Beer tastings and workshops, bottle shop & more
What to do on an late afternoon off??? Of course a beer related fun activity! Gave the new beer experience museum on the top floors of the old Brussels stock exchange a visit. The museum is a bit pricy, very sleek and reminding one of a theme park. The explanation about brewsters and the shift to male dominance in the beer world in the middle ages is too simplistic and I find it quite steep that breweries were asked to pay over a 1000 € so that their glass would be displayed in the wall of fame and beer glasses (hence many great small local breweries not represented), but hey ho the visit was still fun, especially given the great view from the exclusive roof top bar onto the city hall and the interactive side of the experience. Cheers to Belgian beers!
The notion of home - just like Canada I regard Bavaria as being my spiritual home. The article was published this week in a local Bavarian newspaper, but the picture merely offers a glimpse of what was a simply stunning evening. After a 900 km drive from Brussels I bumped into the Unertl family at one of my favourite restaurants in Bavaria. We had a wonderful time together, laughed a lot, shared stories and memories of my internship at the Unertl brewery. This wonderful brewers family has been handcrafting Unterl Weissbier for generations using the best locally sourced ingredients. For a weissbier Unertl weissbier is a wonderfully complex bier with a silky yet refreshing mouthfeel. It is not so much the places we go to, but the warm hearted people we meet and wonderful beers we share that make us feel right at home.
As always I have had a wholesome experience and a simply divine time in London. The exhibition "The femine power - the devine and the demonic" was a real treat and healing moment after a day of sadness. and of course I have encountered some beer drinking goddesses whilst in the exhibition. I have even managed to find a beer goddess at a local supermarket - in form of an English beer made with wild and champagne yeast called "Ninkasi". The cherry on top was a visit of the Le Cordon Bleu restaurant and lunchtime piano concert at St Bride, another saint or goddess linked to beer
Holiday time = hiking & Weissbier time🍺🥳Amazing end of summer short stay in Bavaria. Each Weissbier has its own signature taste. This beer style is a nourishing beverage and great choice after an intense hike😀

On my walk to work in Brussels this morning I was happy to see that large Belgium breweries are also more and more targeting women in their beer commercials. Embracing diversity in our society has simply become too important to ignore. We have come a long way in Belgium from commercials featuring white male men and slogans like "men know why" ("mannen weten waarom"). After all many women I know also like a good pils beer 👏🍺😜
I will be leaving the Canadian sunshine coast with a heavy heart to return to Brussels. I will surely miss Canada, the genuine unpretentious people, the super fun relaxed vibes, the Pacific ocean, walking barefeet, eagles sailing over your head, morning hikes on trails where you can encounter bears and deer and of course its many wonderful craftbeer breweries, beers and ciders. I have had a fab time at my last two breweries in Gibsons, Persephone and Tap Works. Thank you,Canada!🇨🇦❤️😎🍺 🇨🇦
Walking into a local brewery barefeet with sand on your feet for a beer tasting reminds me of my days in Cape Town. Cherry on top of this glorios day in Torfino in Vancouver Island between beach and brewery must have been the afternoon beer tasting. Especially the spruce beer impressed me with its herbal notes of pine and oregano. Tofino Brewing Co has an amazing tasting room and solid beer styles 😎😀🇨🇦🍻a real treat
One night in Vancouver and already savoured beers from two breweries 😀🍻 local craftbeer breweries always are a great place to have a chat with locals and get to know the vibe of a city.
It does not always HAVE to be beer: As a beer sommelier I am also keen to venture out and to do tastings involving other hand crafted beverages. It is so much fun and a good training to distill the flavour components in other kinds of drinks. This weekend I was treated to a gin and tonic tasting of artisanal Scottish gins whilst watching the six nations womens rugby match Scotland vs England. A huge thank you to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office /UK Mis and the Scottish government for having hosted this lovely event in an amazing setting and on a glorious spring day. I can only conclude "Women for gin! " 😜 and congrats re the impressive performance of both female rugby teams!
Stay visionized - Happy New Year, everyone! I can highly recommend taking some time off from social media and messaging. I have done so the past week and this really helped me to reconnect with my thoughts and emotions and to reallign myself with my own vision. Whatever you dream of in life, why not make it happen in 2022?! Totally relaxed and energized I can now proceed with reading and replying to all the lovely new years messages. LETS GO FOR A GREAT 2022 AND OF COURSE FOR GOOD BEERS MADE WITH LOVE!
The early bird...😅Christmas tree ?! Check. Santa will be proud! Beery Christmas decor, a gift wrapping station and a decorated honesty bar make the ambiance complete. Women for Beer is ready for the most wonderful season of all 🎄😀☃️
Bread & bier once more brightened up my lunchbreak. I stopped by the bakery Janine today for the first time. This treasure of a business located in Vorst/Forest has super tasty bakery items. They embrace the concept of circular economy and thus use leftovers from beer brewing in their bread baking and vise versa. Selling bread and beer in one go makes total sense since the Celtic already pursued these two activities under one roof. These baking and brewing houses were called camba. AND the beer sold at Janine is brewed by a lovely lady called Morane. When asking her who brewed the beer she answered with a big smile on her face that she did. I am simply charmed. Hurray, go Women for Beer! Cannot wait to try her pale ale tonight. 😀
A big thank you to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP for having chosen Women for Beer for your team building event. The 13 participants were a great group and it can be said that 13 (ladies) really is the charm 🧙😉 All in all it was a fun and devine evening with all that talk about goddesses associated with beer. The beers from the Dochter van de Korenaar, siphon, mikkeller, 't verzet, kehrwieder and Borg Brugghus were well received 🤩
Preparations for the "explore the feminine side of beer" beer tasting & dinner tonight are well under way at the Old Veterinary School in Brussels. Whoever says that a beer tasting isnt glamorous will be wronged 🤩 our uniform tonight even includes tutus
Happy Halloween from the Old Veterinary School. Celebrating this evening in style with a beer perfect for a stormy cool spooky evening, a full bodied chestnut brown St Bernardus Abt 12. Its rich flavour palate is like trick or treat for adults. I also raise my glass to all the brewsters of the past who have been trialed and executed as witches🧙🧙♀️🧙♀️
The delivery of the Oktoberfest Editon of Women for Beer's Cake & Beer Tasting kits is in full swing. The moment when a concept comes to life always feels sublime. And who would have thought that homemade sauerkraut is a great ingredient to be used in cake! Such a good paring together with the Baierbacher Strandweisse from the Rosenheim region in Bavaria 🍰🍻
No Oktoberfest? Pity, but no probs. The Boutique Cake & Beer Tasting happening last weekend was a huge success. The feedback was overwhemingly positive which was really touching. And the next edition is around the corner. Buckle up for this one. Amazing combo and you may want you to put on your dirndl and lederhosen 😅🥳
Aint no mountain high enough. Believe you me, when visiting a local Bavarian brewery near the Alps, one may need to make an effort and tackle some steep slopes first. But the visit of the Simsseer Braumanufaktur was all worth it. We were greeted by the brewer Tom with a hoppy keller pils. Now back in Belgium with some souveniers in liquid form provided by the brewery. The Simsseer Braumanufaktur will also be featured and paired in Women for Beers Oktoberfest Boutique Cake and Beer tasting kit🍻🍰🤩 stay tuned for this exiting edition that will be on sale in October!
A woman for Beer is on a beery vacation. The weather leaves room for improvement, but the scenery and ambiance is unbeatable
When thoughts become things: what has started as a crazy idea several years ago has developed into a thriving business venture. I can only recommend to act upon your dreams. My guests come from different age groups and walks of life, but they all love the WFB workshops hosted at the Old Veterinary School in Brussels and I certainly love passing on the passion artisanal brewers and brewsters have for their wonderful beers 😍🍻
When business becomes pleasure: just stopped at the brewery 't Verzet to pick up some beers and ended up on their taproom terrace aka a sort of urban looking Biergarten soaking up some sun, getting some handy information on their beers from Alex and having a moose blues dubbel beer made with mable sirup. Fantastic place!!! 😍😎
Women for Beer clearly positions itself and stands for inclusion and diversity 🏳️🌈 I am not a very sporty person and I much perfer to hang out in a beer garden than a gym, but I still do sports to stay healthy and I greatly admire our Olympic athletes who demonstrate almost superhuman performances. They overcome themselves and handle an immense load of pressure. The more it sadens me that a Belgian sports journalist has the audacity to mock the female Belgian basket ball team the "Belgian Cats" for 2 whole minutes soley on the basis of their sexual orientation. This shows that Misogyny and bias against female homosexuality can be a toxic cocktail. We are living in the 21st century and should act like this!
My on demand in person boutique beer tastings & workshops can now be booked again. Explore the feminine side of beer at the Old Veterinary School in Brussels with a touch of first class service and Belgian crafts beers. As a former flight attendant and beer sommelier with a Swiss bachelor in international management I can offer a group of up to 10 persons a fun, elegant and relaxing experience at one of Brussels most beautiful landmarks. For more information please email [email protected] or call +32470586221
Certainly no need to feel blue at this place! The updated interior of the BBP Dansaert taproom is well executed and in my mind somewhat genderneutral in its feel (opposed to all the "bloaky" looking craft beer taprooms around). Tasting the newest beer creations at the godfathers of good craftbeer branding is the perfect way to end a work week in the city.
Planning my table layout for an upcoming workshop with my morning coffee and the sounds of a Spanish guitar whilst the summer sun is casting its warming rays through the open windows. A very zen ambiance!
My loyal customers and friends Iza and Patrick turned things around and did something beer related for me. What a fantastic surprise!!! During their short trip to Romania they packed their suitcase full with a range of local Transylvanian beers. I am so touched by this lovely souvenir and might just be growing some sharp teeth after savouring these ...thank you 🙏🧛♀️❤️🍻
Trial bake off for the next boutique cake & beer tasting "back to the roots". The combo is amazing. I only say quad meets carrot cake (South African recipe) 😋😍
Beer and bread: The bare necessities in life...besides good health, loved ones and a roof over one's head. My thoughts are with the victims of the floods in Germany and Belgium ❤️😔
