Bebe Books
New cute intern alert 🥹
Organization freak, but in a campy way, Cloé describes herself as a printer nerd and a multitasking pop star. Currently living in Brussels, she’s trying to find her way into the real world after graduating from La Cambre with a master degree in book design and book binding. As a paper addict, she loves being involved in all the steps of the bookmaking process and explores cheap ways to produce books and printed matter. Her work often starts from what already exists - images, tools, the collective imagination - diverting and bypassing meanings and uses, in order to reappropriate them through new forms. As a Leo sun, she also occasionally dabbles in performance art.
Welcome to the bebe team

Looking for co-curators, graphic designers and an editor for the Bebe Magazine.
Bebe Books is looking for 3-4 co-curators, 1-2 graphic designers and an editor (These numbers are based on an estimate, and can change based on the future circumstances) to collaboratively organize the first issue of Bebe Magazine. Bebe Magazine is a q***r publication that brings attention to diverse q***r practices from various peripheries of Europe*. The overarching curatorial idea of this issue is “Trans-.” Through this open-ended prefix, we anticipate exploring the possibility of transformative q***r politics beyond identity-based reduction and fetishization.
* As a co-curator, you will be asked to select a specific curatorial keyword starting with the prefix ‘trans.’ Below are examples of such keywords; please feel free to expand on this list: Translation, Transgender, Transnational, Transcultural, Transindividual, Trans-species, Transport, Transaction, Transcription, Transition, Transformation, Transparent, Transmission, Transplant, Transcend, Transpose. Based on this curatorial theme, you will choose artists and initiatives to be featured in the magazine. You will also discuss and conceptualize with the contributors the format in which they will contribute (interview, essay, image essay, etc.).
* As an editor, you will edit and arrange the contents provided by the contributors and co-curators. This job requires knowledge and sensitivity to q***r topics that will be discussed in the magazine, as well as strong writing skills.
* As a graphic designer, you will work in collaboration with the Bebe team (Mert Sen and Michiel Terpelle) to create the visual language for the magazine and contribute throughout the entire publication process, from page design to production. This position requires experience with printed publications and magazines. Capability in lettering is a plus.

Introducing Hussein Shikha, our guest artist at the Bebe Studio in Aalst for the “A Room of Bebe’s Own” project. “A Room of Bebe’s Own” is a functional replica of Bebe Books’ studio in Ghent, situated within NW Aalst.
Hussein Shikha works at the intersection of visual art, design and research. Engaging with complex symbologies that reflect his heritage and family history —he comes from generations of workers engaged in the traffic and logistics of carpet-making— through equally complex pixel drawing. His work is a reaction to dominant Modernist canons that have discredited the visual cultures he was raised in.

Bebe Books’ constituents will occupy the space on a weekly basis to perform their works as residents. Introducing Eric Tlaseca, our inaugural guest at the Bebe Studio in Aalst for the “A Room of Bebe’s Own” project. “A Room of Bebe’s Own” is a functional replica of Bebe Books’ studio in Ghent, situated within NW Aalst. Currently a resident at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam, Eric Tlaseca is a visual artist whose practice delves into the transformations of identity. In his work, the human body serves as an arena, whether represented in audiovisual pieces, tattooed directly, or engaged in social projects. It becomes an agent that symbolises, intervenes, preserves, and questions our systems.
