Its that time of the year when Sinterklaas with his gang of helpers (pieten) and his magestic white horse arrive in the Netherlands. December 5 (Sinterklaas day) is a Dutch special holiday when children recieved presents from Sinterklaas (based on Saint Nicholas). Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of children. It is equivalent to Santa Claus but the big man from the North pole comes in December 25 😉.

Santa Clause has elves, has reindeers and a sleigh. Santa Clause is from the North Pole while Sinterklaas is from Spain. Both have lists of children who are naughty or nice!

Fun fact: Sinterklaas is not just a Dutch tradition. It is also celebrated all over Europe. Other countries has their own version of Sinterklaus. They visit once a year (December), has lots of treats for well-behaved kids and "punish" those who are naughty.

Sint Marteen is celebrated in the Netherlands every 11th of November. Just like Halloween, tricks or treats, the celebrate by knocking door to door and singing some traditional sint-maarten songs and then you get sweets or candies. Instead of costumes, the children bring homemade paper lanterns 🥰. So here are the sweets i got last night! 😁😁😁🫢 it is so much
