The Stefanshof Through the Ages! 🏡✨ The settlement emerged at the beginning of the 20th century, yet traces of earlier habitation can be found in ancient lore. The family home was built around 1918 by Marie Thérèse Dethier and became the residence for the Mathonet family.

In 1921, additional stables were constructed, and during World War II, the farm played a strategic role. In 1944, the SS combat unit led by Peiper passed through the grounds, and German troops were quartered there. Until 1945, when American soldiers took control, the Stefanshof was isolated.

In 1951, the farm was connected to the power grid, and in 1977, it joined the public water supply. Despite these advancements, the population dwindled, and in 2011, the last resident, Paul Mathonet, passed away at the age of 84. A captivating glimpse into the history of a place that witnessed changes and challenges. 🕰️🌳

During the Ardennes Offensive, Adèle Mathonet, a resident of Stefanshof, passed away in 1945. Unable to be buried in the village cemetery, German soldiers created what's now Belgium's smallest graveyard near her home. Marie Anne Dethier joined her after the conflict. This private family resting place, with seven graves, is a cherished and honored spot. 🕊️

Great location, 6 bedrooms for a total of 16 people, large wellness area with swimming pool and sauna, dining room wirh cosy stove and lounge with pool table. 🎱

In October 2022, the Stefanshof was awarded within the framework of the initiative "Successful Conversions East Belgium" of the WFG East Belgium. 🎖

This project aims to illustrate the valorisation of the potential of older, vacant or little-used buildings by means of conversion and renovation and to motivate other building owners to upgrade their property. ⚒
