I don’t think anyone in Formula 1 is having a lower lows and higher highs than Charles Leclerc in the moment. In the post-race press conference yesterday he said that the four worst races this year followed his home triumph at Monaco and now he won at Monza in a Ferrari. Again. Given how the season started, we are actually witnessing a super interesting season! Can’t wait for Baku!

In my opinion, to really appreciate and understand what Ferrari is in the world of motorsport one needs to visit Monza. To see the red cars on the track and witness the love and passion they get out of the mad tifosi in the grandstands!
Unfortunately today Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz could bring much joy to their adoring fans. Their best efforts could only merit fourth and fifth respectively with the McLaren duo and George Russell occupying the top 3 places for tomorrow’s F1 Italian Grand Prix

Lando Norris had a tough choice to make during the Hungarian Grand Prix. It’s normal for drivers to be put in an unfavourable position due to a mistake from the team, but in that case, the Brit was a beneficiary of one. It’s a tough position to be in I would imagine. He has the fastest car in the field currently and he is trying to bring the fight to Max. As we well know, in this sport each point counts. Sometimes even half points do. So conceding seven points would’ve been painful, but not doing so would’ve poisoned the team atmosphere. He didn’t really want to do it I think, but the negatives would’ve been much bigger than the positives.
Anyway, let’s see how the saga continues at Spa this week!
Covering Formula 1 is not cheap. It’s difficult, complex job that involves flights, hotels and time away from family. If you like what I do, please consider purchasing a print or becoming a supporter at patreon.com/spasgp. Thank you!

What a bang that was! I was shooting at turn 4 during Q3 when we heard an impact as if a bomb went off. We saw the dust over the fence and realised where the incident had happened. I ran as quickly as I could and caught walking towards the medical car. The car got quickly moved inside the infield of the racetrack and we had the opportunity to capture the extent of the damage. I’m really glad to see Yuki walk away from that one!

In the lobby of the press center and main grandstand building there is a bull that is made out of thousands semi transparent, orange balls suspended from the ceiling. On Sunday, the drivers arrive through that lobby, unlike the rest of the days when they get directly into the paddock. I was coming back to the press Center after Nikola’s F3 feature race, and when I was climbing the stairs I looked at the Bull and thought-“what can I do with this thing?”. Sure enough I figured out where the drivers are going to come through and made my way opposite of that, placing the flying beast between us. Then I found a gap to place the drivers in and waited. Focusing through that gap was a nightmare as the sensor was catching the strings that hold the balls in the air, but the image would look so cool, I really had to try to make something out of it.
Thankfully, was good enough to spend some of his precious time with the fans that gave me the opportunity to nail my focus and create this interesting frame.
Side note: Covering races is an expensive venture and doing it as a independent freelance photographer makes it even more difficult. Proposing has given me a great metaphor for my financial situation in the last few years. Is this guy gonna walk over everybody today or someone is holding an ace hidden in their hand? Can’t wait to find out!

Life it’s all about finding the limit. found it between turns 9 and 10 and went over it thus proving how unforgiving the new gravel traps at the are. Thankfully his avoided the walls and he was able to continue.
I went to the inside of the last sector for the sprint qualifying as I expected the drivers to push during their hot laps and I thought someone is bound to at least kick up some dust. I also wanted to combine it with the panning shot through the trees which is now impossible as the trees there are surrounded by a tall fence much to all photographers’ anguish.

I was panning at around 1/50 on my 500 lens when I say Yuki going Rally Cross over the curbs. I reacted immediately and tried to follow the car while keeping the shutter clicking. Thankfully I got these three bad boys!

I wonder if there’s a creeping feeling of unrest in Max Versrappen as the season that began in such a dominant fashion for Red Bull has now resulted in 3 defeats (one down to a mechanical failure)?

I am lost for words with this one. Still buzzing after Nikola Tsolov’s win in the F3 sprint race, I had very little time to collect my thoughts, send a few pictures and head back to the track for FP3. I was hoping that I’ll be granted pit lane that would allow me to do the inside of the pool chicane and then move further upstream, but I was denied, so I had to make due with whatever I had at my disposal. Honestly, if I had gotten out from this session with only this picture, I would’ve still be over the moon! I fu***ng love how it turned out! And was so difficult to make as you don’t see the cars approaching because the view is blocked by the grandstand’s support structure. Anyway, this is in his , I am Spas Genev and I’m over the moon!

Tough day at the office for the spiny race winner , but things like this always happen on a track as narrow an unforgiving as Monaco.
It’s important to take away the positives which I’m this case is a F #%€ING win!!!!
NEXT!

Someone is preparing for pole! Charles Leclerc is mega fast with his updated Ferrari around the streets of Monte Carlo this year. Might he bring the pole to the team later today?

I’m lost for words on this one! There was a red flag in the middle of the day and I was the clouds coming, so I took off for turn 1 to see what it’s possible and this opportunity presented itself. I was planning on making a shot with the corner entry bright and the rest dark, but a cloud covered the sun and it all went black. Luckily a slim ray of light appeared just as was making a practice start and I was able to catch him exactly where the light was.

I couldn’t decide between colour and monochrome, so here’s both! 😂

I’m really happy that I managed to catch this frame today. I was shooting at 1/8000 and praying that the frames per second will be enough to place the car exactly in the middle. The lucky draw was .lindblad 🎉

It’s a true joy and pleasure for me to have been a small part of this young man’s journey into the world of racing! Every time I’ve been able to help was a true happiness for me, so I thank you for the opportunity! , I hope 2024 brings the luck that you deserved this year and the opportunity to show what you are really made of! Happy birthday, champ!

I was listening to the commentators during qualifying yesterday, and they were referring to Charles as “championship contender” which I thought was a bit mean. What is happening in that team is absurd. “The team is young” can’t be an excuse, this is Ferrari.

09/08/2022

For this one I wanted to take advantage of the features of the Mercedes hospitality unit. The glass alongside the stairs could work perfectly in the correct circumstances but I needed to take my time and wait. I tested the concept with a few people from the team and thankfully when Lewis came up, I was ready and the light was awesome! The blues, whites and yellows are a great pallet! ⚪️ 🔵 🟡

When asked if they’d copped Ferrari’s design, team principal Guenther Steiner replied-“of course we copied Ferrari, who would you want us to copy, Williams?” There was some keen interest in that car. Non other than ’s Adrian Newey took his time while examining the car on the grid before the Grand Prix. Unfortunately for the team, had some damage on the opening lap and finished way down in P16, two places behind his teammate in P14. These upgrades don’t work as they did in the past. Teams need more time to wrap their heads around the concept and it’s best exploitation approach.

Much has been said about ‘s move to and while the general consensus is that it’s inspired by money, I am not entirely convinced. Far from it actually. I’m pretty sure that the Spaniard is doing quite okay financially, his brand seems to be going strong. For me, this move is yet again inspired by his relentless hunger for wins and the pursuit of that elusive 3-re championship. Now the question is will he and team owner Lawrence Stroll be able to look in the same direction or their strong characters will clash.
Only time will tell.

Photos from Spasgp's post 03/08/2022

Early in the race I was just after the chicane when I noticed that was catching and I was pretty sure there will be an attack and it will happen on the main straight. Just as I was trying to hop on one of the circulating shuttle busses my colleague wrote “he overtook him” and I was pi**ed that I didn’t react faster, but I managed to get there just in time for ’s lunge on the inside of Charles’ Ferrari at turn 1.

03/08/2022

We have to talk about Ferrari. I know it’s painful but it’s important. The team left France with a bitter taste in their mouth. Afterwards Mattia Binotto claimed that there is no reason to why the team can’t win the remaining 10 races of the season and then they went and lost the Hungarian Grand Prix with the fastest car out there. Obviously the pressure under which the team operates is huge and they are cracking under it.
