MONORAIL IN PASAY CITY🚝🚝🚝

The 1.89-kilometer transit monorail system aims to provide seamless connectivity to decongest and reduce travel time in the area.

The DOTr and the Pasay City government signed the agreement on the project in September last year and its completion is expected in a few years’ time.

Imagine reaching the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay from Quezon City or elsewhere, in a breeze.

Visitors to the 67-hectare shopping, leisure, commercial and residential complex, will no longer have to endure rush-hour traffic along EDSA from the northern part of Metro Manila.

It is the third monorail project in Metro Manila after MRT 4 and BGC Monorail.

SOUTH KOREA TO BUILD A SMART CITY IN CLARK, PAMPANGA🇵🇭🇰🇷

Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to bolster their partnership in developing the Clark Smart City project in Pampanga.

CDC President and CEO Manuel R. Gaerlan and LH Chief Executive Officer Kim Hyun Jun signed the pact for the “Clark Smart City Urban Development Project” during a simple ceremony held at the Clark Visitor’s Center.

Under the MOU, CDC and LH will work together to facilitate and attract potential investments, including but not limited to small and medium-sized firms that will contribute to the smart city project’s implementation.

Both parties also agreed to collaborate on enhancing trade, investment, and tourism activities in this Freeport for the efficient and successful fulfillment of the project. The smart city is envisioned to be developed in an approximately 104.8 hectares prime property within this Freeport.

“Clark Development Corporation values the support of the Korean Government, LH, Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), and other counterparts since this (project) started a few months ago. We are very happy that we are now seeing the completion of the feasibility study for the project. I hope that this will be the start of a lasting partnership between CDC and LH, Korea and the Philippine government,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kim expressed optimism on the smart city project and commended CDC for the warm reception and hospitality shown to them during their visit in the Freeport.

Legaspi headed and directed the submission of CDC’s proposal for the K-City Network 2021 Smart City Development Planning grant competition. The proposal presented by CDC ranked 1st among the 111 entries from 39 countries evaluated on the program administered by the Korean Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transportation (MOLIT).

Last year, SMC awarded contracts to overseas prefabricators, who would then ship the airport’s components that would be assembled in the country soon.

DUTERTE OKS 418–HECTARE HORIZON MANILA RECLAMATION 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

President Duterte has approved the 418-hectare Horizon Manila reclamation project.

In a meeting with JBros Construction Corp. last week, Duterte gave the go-signal for the proponent of the project to proceed with the development, recognizing the jobs that would be created, which in turn would help contribute in the recovery of the economy.

Sources said President Duterte was impressed with Horizon’s plan of including numerous community amenities to be enjoyed by the Filipino public, such as two sunset parks, an art museum, theater, a medical center, 80 hectares of parks and open spaces and a sports stadium, among others.

Horizon Manila is the first Filipino project to ever win in the World Architecture Festival (WAFX). It was named the overall winner of the 2021 WAFX Award at the 2021 World Architecture Festival after first winning the WAFX Water Category.

There are at least 19 reclamation projects in various stages of permitting, development, and implementation, according to the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA).

These include the City of Pearl Reclamation Project, the Manila Waterfront City Reclamation Project, the Tieng family’s Solar City

The Philippine economy is seen to amass USD 34 billion in the additional gross domestic product (GDP) cumulatively between 2021 to 2025 Meta's — formerly known as Facebook—subsea cable investment.

Meta's Investments are expected to create up to 3.7 million new jobs. Based on the study, the Philippines stands to gain $34 billion in additional GDP cumulatively from 2021 to 2025 and 380,000 new jobs by 2025.

These projects in APAC and Europe are part of Meta’s overall investment in subsea infrastructure around the globe. The company has invested billions in partnership with network operators and providers, original equipment manufacturers, technology companies, other applications providers, and the industry as a whole, to improve connectivity around the world.

Philippine President signs Republic Act No. 11647 aiming to promote foreign investments by amending RA 7042 or the Foreign Investments Act of 1991.
A law that removes several restrictions on foreign investments.

Republic Act 7042, also known as the “Foreign Investments Act of 1991,” is a law regulating foreign investments in the Philippines.

The act allows foreign investors to invest up to 100% equity in domestic market enterprises. The goal of this law is to encourage foreign investors to provide employment opportunities for Filipinos, develop resources, increase the value of exports, and help fuel the overall economy.

FDI creates new jobs and more opportunities as investors build new companies in the Philippines. This can lead to an increase in income and more purchasing power to locals, which in turn leads to high economy.

The measure aims to make the Philippines a more attractive destination for foreign investments, after it has been deemed one of the most restrictive in Southeast Asia and the world. Lawmakers and the Duterte administration hope that by attracting more foreigners to put up businesses or invest in local businesses, more jobs would be generated for Filipinos and there would be a transfer of skills and technology in industries the Philippines is yet to advance in.

Foreign direct investments contribute significantly to the GDP growth that the Philippines is enjoying today. When foreign entrepreneurs enter the Philippine market and bring over their businesses to the country, the job market grows.

Philippines: Now a 'Premium' investment destination. 🇵🇭🌏

The Philippines is now open for business — with foreigners now allowed to own up to 100% of companies in key industries.

And the easing of ownership restrictions in retail, telecom, airlines, airports, railways could open up fresh opportunities for businesses based in the UAE and the Gulf.

The Philippine government has been pushing to open up of the country’s economy. There are two “aces”, or developments cited by the government:

🔹First, the amendments to the Retail Trade Liberalisation Act (RTLA) had been enacted into law. The passage of Republic Act 11595, which became a law on January 21, 2022, amended the RTLA of 2000.

🔹The second legislative “ace”, according to Lopez, emerges from the amendments to Foreign Investments Act and Public Service Act (PSA), already passed by Congress and now awaiting President Rodrigo Duterte’s signature.

“Increased competition in the Philippine market is expected in terms of services and products which will generate better quality of and competitive pricing to the benefit of the consumers,”

Added the Corporate Income Tax was reduced from 30 percent to 25 percent through the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) law and it provides competitive tax perks to investors.

The Airport is now underconstruction on a 2,500-hectare (6,200-acre) coastal property as part of an envisioned 12,000-hectare (30,000-acre) township that features a residential zone, government center, seaport and an industrial zone.

The Airport will feature at least 4 runways, expandable to 6. It will have a capacity of 200 million passengers per year when fully built, which is about six times larger than the current capacity of NAIA.

The first phase of the project will include two of the four runways.

It will also be connected to Metro Manila by an airport toll road with connections to the North Luzon Expressway and Radial Road 10. The airport will also be connected by rail to the MRT Line 7 through the MRT 7 Airport Express project.
