UNIDO ITPO Bahrain
Our EDIP program is designed to assist entrepreneurs in starting a new company and help existing entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
The prime function of the "Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion Program" (EDIP) is to stimulate the emergence of new companies and the growth of existing enterprises that produce goods and services for trade, provide employment and income for people, and thereby contribute to poverty alleviation and overall economic growth. The EDIP programme has two main components: Enterprise Creation a
In the framework of supporting women’s post-conflict programs and achieving SDG 5, the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain, jointly with ITPO Japan and with the support of the Japanese Government, launched a one-year specialised program to support the economic empowerment of Ukrainian women currently residing in Tokyo.
Under the theme “Entrepreneurship Development, Investment and Technology Promotion for Displaced Women and Youth from Ukraine in Japan”, our program is not just about individual empowerment. It is based on the successful Bahrain model - the Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Program (EDIP Modality)-and is designed to benefit the entire community of displaced people. By leveraging this model, we aim to create a ripple effect that will extend to other conflict-affected regions around the world.
From the 10th to the 14th of June 2024, we successfully conducted the first phase of our program. A team of experts led this phase, a capacity-building program held in Tokyo. These experts included professionals from Japan, four experts from ITPO Bahrain, and two Bahraini entrepreneurs, all of whom brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the table.
The program’s second phase calls for rigorous hybrid business counselling interventions over the next six to eight months, as deemed necessary, to support potential entrepreneurs in finalising their business plans.
ITPO Bahrain’s involvement in this program lies in its success in economic empowerment through the EDIP Modality. Still, it also develops the capacities of Japanese experts and acquaints them with the Bahrain Model. This objective involves facilitating interactions between Japanese experts and counsellors at ITPO Bahrain to provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the program’s modality.
Through this support, the experts gained insights into the strategies, processes, and best practices employed in the Bahrain Model, allowing them to adapt these approaches to enhance their capacity to support Japanese entrepreneurs. Thus facilitating stronger business linkages and partnerships between Japanese, Bahraini and Ukrainian entrepreneurs.
