Hi all,
Some have been asking why I post links to other sites, online videos, different courses etc. and don't just focus on promoting my own page/service.
That's simple. During this difficult time in the world, with many of us in quarantine, it's easy to feel lonely, isolated, bored and depressed.
I'm one of the lucky ones who can work from home, teaching online. I have great clients who all agreed to continue with me on Skype. I'm enjoying the new dynamic, keeping busy and sometimes teaching more than 10hrs per day.
But I noticed many students were feeling down and didn't know how to occupy their time - outside of class. Especially if they don't have the option to work remotely.
So, I decided to do some research and provide them (and anybody else) with some options on how to use your time productively and maybe learn something new.
It's been fun searching for interesting/relative topics and quite inspirational at times. If you like, check out my previous posts on travel, art, culture, museum tours, online study, wine tasting, ancient cultures, animals, space, fitness.
All in English for you to practice your reading and listening skills.
Remember, mental health is key so it's important to check in with friends/family and see how they're coping with this current situation.

April 7, 2020. 🌟
What happens if you keep going north? The direction north on the Earth, the place on your horizon below the northern spin pole of the Earth - around which other stars appear to slowly swirl, will remain the same.
This spin-pole-of-the-north will never move from its fixed location on the sky and its height will always match your latitude. The further north you go, the higher the north spin pole will appear. Eventually, if you can reach the Earth's North Pole, the stars will circle a point directly over your head.
Pictured, a four-hour long stack of images shows stars trailing in circles around the north celestial pole. The bright star near the north celestial pole is Polaris, known as the North Star. The bright path was created by the photographer's headlamp as he zigzagged up a hill just in Lower Saxony, Germany.
Actually, the Earth has two spin poles, and much the same would happen if you started below the Earth's equator and went south.

10 Tips for Presenting in English
Thousands of companies are expanding around the world into new regions where English is the language of business. This means that many of us have to deal with the stress of trying to be understood by people who speak a different first language.
For a person beginning to present in English when it's not their native language - this can be a big challenge!
There are 3 common scenarios:
A native English speaker is presenting to an audience whose first language is not English.
A non-native speaker is presenting to an audience of native English speakers.
A non-native speaker is presenting to a group of people who also don't speak English as their first language.
Most native speakers of English are terrible at presenting to international audiences. Why? Because they speak too fast, with complicated sentences and with too much slang or culturally specific vocabulary.
So the first goal of any good speaker (native or non-native) is to be understood!
Here are 10 tips to help get your message across:
1. Prepare more than usual
It’s no surprise that your speech in English will require 3 times more practice and preparation than a similar speech in your mother tongue.
2. Keep it simple
Make sure you use short sentences to share your ideas. Language is a combination of words, sentence length, structure and grammar - so it's important to use less complex, technical terms. More people will understand you because of it.
3. Use hand outs
It's a great idea to give out an overview of what you’ll be presenting to your audience before they arrive, or put it on their seats in the auditorium. It prepares them for the information they're about to listen to in a foreign language and it's something they can refer to afterwards.
4. Tell it like a story
A great story has a clear start, middle and end. Audiences expect this structure and become confused if they don’t get it. No matter what subject you’re talking about, the 'three act approach' will help you order your thoughts and present your information in the most logical fashion.
5. Work on your vocabulary
We often worry that a lack of vocabulary will affect our ability to say what we want in a presentation but remember, vocabulary is only part of telling a story. If it's important to you, research and expand your vocabulary when preparing your speech so you are confident and comfortable with any new words.
6. Be clear and summarise
Regular reminders of where you are in your presentation will help audiences understand the points you’re making and allow them some time to catch up. People need time to think and check if they understand. It takes longer when you have to do a translation in your head. Recap the things you covered and include a summary of your main message.
7. Use visuals aids
When presenting, visual aids can help the you remember what’s next (this is helpful when you are nervous). They are even more important to help an international audience understand your talk more easily. Good visuals can support your key points with relevant and memorable images.
8. Articulate well
You can have a strong accent and still be understood, but only if you articulate clearly. It requires you to practise your pronunciation of the vowel sounds in English and hit the consonants at the end of words. Be sure to use punctuation and slow down.
9. Express yourself
Most meaning in communication is conveyed by body language and vocal tone. This needs to be magnified when speaking to an international audience. They are very sensitive to the non-verbal messages you’re giving so it's important to be more expressive in your delivery.
10. Don’t turn away from the audience
When people are focusing hard to understand what you’re saying, they are listening to your words, watching your facial expression AND watching your mouth. If you turn away, they lose that connection and won't understand as much.
What strategies do you use when presenting? What tips do you have to reduce those feelings of anxiety and increase your confidence? Share your ideas in the comments section.

Razor sharp strategic and tactical thinking for the business world. The Art Of War - Sun Tzu. "Once picked the opportunities multiply."
Many cultures agree that black cats are powerful omens but do they signify good luck or bad luck?
The thought of black cats as a bad omen started in Europe during the middle ages. They were thought to be the companions of witches, or even a witch in disguise. And a black cat crossing your path meant that the devil was watching you. However, in some other cultures such as ancient Egypt and Japan, a black cat is a sign of good luck.
Do you know why we say "bless you" when a person sneezes? It was believed that a sneeze expelled an evil spirit from the body and that this prayer would protect you.
Do you think walking under a ladder is unlucky? The origin of this superstition dates back thousands of years. A ladder against a wall forms a triangle, and this shape is sacred. Triangles represent the trinity of god (the father, son and holy spirit) and to pass through a triangle was to violate it with disrespect.
