🙋🏾‍♀️ Not sure about what a Pap smear is❔

📝 A Pap smear is a procedure to test for cervical cancer in women. It involves collecting cells from your cervix.

🧫 🔬 Detecting cervical cancer early with a Pap smear gives you a greater chance at a cure. A Pap smear can also detect changes in your cervical cells that suggest cancer may develop in the future.

It is recommended that you have a Pap smear done every 3-5 years!

About the HPV vaccine 💡

📝 Most cervical cancers are associated with human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection. Widespread immunization with the HPV vaccine could reduce the impact of cervical cancer and other cancers caused by HPV worldwide.
Various strains of HPV spread through sexual contact and are associated with most cases of cervical cancer. Gardasil 9 is an HPV vaccine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and can be used for both girls and boys.

💉 This vaccine can prevent most cases of cervical cancer if the vaccine is given before girls or women are exposed to the virus.

💉 This vaccine can also prevent vaginal and vulvar cancer, ge***al warts, a**l cancers, and mouth, throat, head and neck cancers in women and men.

❕ Go out and get your Pap smear and first dose of the HPV vaccine on January 14th 2023! 😊

Incentive Spirometers now IN STOCK❕

An incentive spirometer is a device that measures how deeply you can inhale (breathe in). It helps you take slow, deep breaths to expand and fill your lungs with air. This helps prevent lung problems, such as pneumonia 😷.

It is most commonly used after surgery. People who are at an increased risk of airway or breathing problems may also use one. These include people who smoke or have lung disease. This may also include people who are not active or cannot move well.

🤒 Heat-related illnesses, like heat exhaustion or heat stroke, happen when the body is not able to properly cool itself.

Heat related deaths and illnesses are preventable!

Here are a few important TIPS to BEAT the HEAT ☀️ 🔥
1. Wear Appropriate Clothing: Choose lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.

Stay Cool Indoors: Stay in an air-conditioned place as much as possible.

* Electric fans may provide comfort, but when the temperature is in the high 90s, they will not prevent heat-related illness. Take a cool shower or bath or moving to an airconditioned place is a much better way to cool off.

Use your stove and oven less to maintain a cooler temperature in your home.

Schedule Outdoor Activities Carefully: Try to limit your outdoor activity to when it’s coolest, like morning and evening hours.

Rest often in shady areas so that your body has a chance to recover.

Pace Yourself: Cut down on exercise during the heat.

Wear Sunscreen: Sunburn affects your body’s ability to cool down and can make you dehydrated.

If you must go outdoors, protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat, sunglasses, and by putting on sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher 30 minutes prior to going out.

Do Not Leave Children in Cars: Cars can quickly heat up to dangerous temperatures, even with a window cracked open.

Avoid Hot and Heavy Meals: They add heat to your body!

Stay Hydrated; Drink Plenty of Fluids: Drink more fluids, regardless of how active you are. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink.

* Stay away from very sugary or alcoholic drinks—these actually cause you to lose more body fluid.

Also avoid very cold drinks, because they can cause stomach cramps.

Replace Salt and Minerals: Heavy sweating removes salt and minerals from the body that need to be replaced. A sports drink can replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat.

Keep Your Pets Hydrated: Provide plenty of fresh water for your pets, and leave the water in a shady area.

Stay Informed 📺 📰

📝 The RICE method is usually recommended for: sprains, strains, bruises and other soft tissue injuries.

It’s a simple self-care technique that helps reduce swelling, ease pain, and speed up healing.

🩹 People often sustain sprains by playing sports, tripping, falling, or through sudden twisting motions.

**Repeated movements and lifting heavy objects the wrong way can cause strains.

If you have tried the RICE method with no improvement or you are unable to put any weight on the injured area, you should seek medical attention! 🚑

Don’t forget to :
1.Rest
2.Ice
3.Compress
4.Elevate

Did you know that MAY is Lupus Awareness month?

Lupus is a disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks its own tissues and organs; it is an autoimmune disease.

Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems ; including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.

🦋 The most distinctive sign of lupus is a facial rash that resembles the wings of a butterfly unfolding across both cheeks. This sign occurs in many but not all cases of lupus.

Other signs include Fatigue, Fever
Joint pain, stiffness and swelling, Skin lesions that appear or worsen with sun exposure.

The cause of lupus in most cases is unknown. Some potential triggers include:

🌞 Sunlight; Exposure to the sun may bring on lupus skin lesions or trigger an internal response in susceptible people.
🦠 Infections; Having an infection can initiate lupus or cause a relapse in some people.
💊 Medications; Lupus can be triggered by certain types of blood pressure medications, anti-seizure medications and antibiotics. People who have drug-induced lupus usually get better when they stop taking the medication.

No one test can diagnose lupus. The combination of blood and urine tests, signs and symptoms, and physical examination findings leads to the diagnosis.

👨🏽‍⚕️ 👩🏾‍⚕️ Treatment for lupus depends on your signs and symptoms. Determining whether you should be treated and what medications to use requires a careful discussion of the benefits and risks with your doctor.

🧩Some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others may need less support and in some cases, live entirely independently. 🧩Signs of autism usually appear by age 2 or 3.
Children or adults with ASD might:
* not point at objects to show interest (for example, not point at an airplane flying over)
* not look at objects when another person points at them
* have trouble relating to others or not have an interest in other people at all
* avoid eye contact and want to be alone
* have trouble understanding other people’s feelings or talking about their own feelings
* prefer not to be held or cuddled, or might cuddle only when they want to
* appear to be unaware when people talk to them, but respond to other sounds
* be very interested in people, but not know how to talk, play, or relate to them
* repeat or echo words or phrases said to them, or repeat words or phrases in place of normal language 👩🏾‍⚕️🥼Diagnosing ASD can be difficult since there is no medical test, like a blood test, to diagnose the disorders. Doctors look at the child’s behavior and development to make a diagnosis. 🧩There is currently no cure for ASD. Early treatment can improve a child’s development. Early intervention services help children from birth to 3 years old learn important skills. Services can include therapy to help the child talk, walk, and interact with others. 🧩Risk Factors
* Most scientists agree that genes are one of the risk factors that can make a person more likely to develop ASD.
* Children who have a sibling with ASD are at a higher risk.
* Children born to older parents are at greater risk.

Sickle cell anemia is an inherited red blood cell disorder in which there aren't enough healthy red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout your body.
Normally, the flexible, round red blood cells move easily through blood vessels.
In sickle cell anemia, the red blood are shaped like sickles or crescent moons.
