Solar Electricity on your home?
When people call us, the first thing they ask is “how much does it cost to put solar on my home?” That question is a loaded one. We would ask you first for your electric bill so that we can see how many kWh (kilowatt hours) you use each month. Obviously, the more electricity you use, the more a solar electric (PV) system would cost. The Bahamas is now allowing people to “net meter”. That means with a simple application and $50, you can get permission to spin your meter backward, making your own power with your PV system and spinning the meter backward with any extra you might make. It’s important to know that without batteries, if the power goes off, so does your PV system. Batteries often double or even triple the cost of a PV system, so it’s important to see if a generator might be a better option or if possibly batteries might work for you. There is no such thing as designing a system around the square footage of a building. We need to know how much electricity you use to design around your needs. Island Solar is owned by an experienced electrician and employs a NABCEP Certified PV Design/Installation specialist. Between us we have over 30 years of experience in the Bahamas installing solar. We only use high quality components tested for longevity and efficiency. The solar panels we install all have the highest rating for marine environments and have 25 year performance warranties. Call us at 426-3033 if you think you’d like a site survey. We specialize in commercial PV, but would be happy to install your residential system as well. Tell us what your average electrical use is and we can ask you a few questions about your home to ascertain the cost for installing a PV system for you.
In the meantime, visit our website at www.islandsolarbahamas.com and read through to gain the best understanding of what we do and whether solar is right for you. You can also see many of the systems we’ve installed on islands across the Bahamas.
