Young children are curious and highly motivated to learn new skills. With adult encouragement in a safe, carefully prepared, and supervised environment, children were assisted to paddy fields to plant paddy.
Centre activities based on hand on practice and experience with planting, growing and nurturing plants such as fruits, vegetables, crops and flowers can help young children learn key developmental skills, including:

SCIENCE SKILLS: Weather, insects, soil, water and plant life cycle

MATH SKILLS: Counting, measuring, classification and weighing

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Describing and comparing, color, texture, taste and attributes

FINE MOTOR SKILLS: Mixing, spreading, planting walking and whole body movement

COGNITIVE SKILLS: Curiosity, cause and effect, and problem solving

Activity: Field Trip

GNH focus: Economy

Throughout the activity we have discussed the type of crops (food/cash crops) people grow in our locality. We also talked about the types of things people buy and sell and how they make money to make the living.
In order to make the session more engaging and to provide an immersive learning experience, a facilitator and children visited the nearby village to help villagers collect potatoes.

ELDS Domains: Children are able to demonstrate coordination of large muscle/whole body movement, interpersonal skills and they can speak clearly and understand direction. Further enhances early mathematical skills, understand characteristics of the natural world through observation and demonstrate the awareness of economic concept.

Cooking can help young children develop their motor skills, learn and practice some basic math and science concepts. Most importantly it enhances young children's language and communication skills.
Other benefits of cooking are; can learn portion control, eat healthy, save time, save money and avoid waisting food.
