Greater Gaborone District Health Management Team has partnered with private medical practitioners in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. The phase 2 vaccination rollout is currently targeting people 45 years and above.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness issued a public statement last week indicating that it was unable to complete the due diligence assessment of the Sinovac vaccine that it received recently. This was because of the incomplete documentation that had accompanied the Sinovac vaccine. Members of the public are informed that the said documentation was delivered on 20 September 2021. This therefore, means that the process to complete the due diligence assessment that has to be conducted on all vaccines that arrive in the country, has resumed.

The ministry expects the assessment of the said Sinovac vaccine, together with that of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which arrived in the country over the weekend, to be completed in the next few days. It is therefore, anticipated that vaccination, which is currently at Phase two category, will also resume before the end of this week. Each District Health Management Team (DHMT), will announce its vaccination schedule including the specific details of where and when vaccination will be taking place.

The ministry appreciates the patience and understanding by members of the public that this was a necessary delay in order to allow for all the appropriate processes to be followed before the vaccines could be rolled out.

PUBLIC NOTICE: PHASE TWO VACCINATION PROGRAM RESUMES ON 18TH AUGUST 2021 ALONGSIDE SOME FRONTLINE STAFF

Following the arrival of the AstraZeneca and Jonson and Johnson vaccine consignments in the past few days, the Ministry of Health and Wellness wishes to inform members of the public that vaccination of those in the Phase two category of the National Deployment and Vaccination Plan, will resume on 18 August 2021.

Although phase two category covers adults aged 30 to 54 age groups, the target for now will be those aged 45 years and above, for purposes of managing congestions at vaccination sites.

Alongside those in the Phase two category as indicated, COVID-19 vaccination will also be administered on some frontline workers including security personnel, those in the mining sector and the teaching fraternity, amongst others.

The District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) across the country will facilitate on the logistics of the roll out and the mobilization of these prioritised sectors.

For a seamless vaccination process, all those eligible are advised to register online.

The new online registration platform is: https://fenyacovid.gov.bw/armready. Those who previously registered on the old link, should not re-register, since their registration remains valid.
