A salary can do much when one is intentional.

An acquaintance, my accountability partner, my mastermind team, my wealth building partner successfully built the below stock portfolio over 15 years just using a salary.

First National Bank Botswana (FNBB), the country 's largest commercial bank by all measures continues to register astonishing figures, the likes of which have never been achieved before in the local banking industry.

For its financial year ended 30 June 2023, the publicly listed banking giant forecasts another record breaking milestone after profit before tax surpassed P1 billion mark last year.

In a circular to the market yersterday the banking behemoth informed it's shareholders that the company’s overall profit before tax for the period ended 30 June 2023 will be higher than that reported in the previous corresponding period by between 15% and 20%.

In number terms this is an increase of between P180 million and P250 million. The profit before tax for the corresponding period ended 30 June 2022 was P1.2 billion, figures never reported by any commercial bank in Botswana before, taking home P926 million as profit after tax.

FNBB reported P536 million profit after tax for its six months of the year ended 31 December 2022.

This was a 19% increase from the P450 million recorded during the corresponding six-month period ended December 2021.

With profit before tax estimated at P1.4 billion, the Steven Bogatsu-led banking giant looks set to make history again this year by becoming the first commercial bank to clock over 1 billion p**a in profit after tax.

First National Bank Botswana's largest shareholder is FNB Holdings Botswana at 70 percent. FNB Holding Botswana is owned by First Rand, a South African banking behemoth.

Other shareholders of FNB Botswana are BPOPF, Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, Debswana Pension Fund.

Lucara Diamond CORP. has announced the recovery of a 692.3 carat diamond from its 100% owned Karowe Diamond Mine located in Botswana, just days after it announced the recovery of a 1080 carat.

The diamond, measuring 46.5 x 40.7 x 28.4 mm is described as a Type IIa high white gem, recovered in the MDR XRT unit at Karowe from direct milling of ore sourced from the EM/PK(S) unit of the South Lobe.

The 692.3 carat diamond represents the fourth +300 carat diamond recovered year to date and shortly follows on the recovery of the 1,080 carat Type IIa white top gem earlier in August (link to pr).

William Lamb, CEO commented: "The successful track record of delivering some of the World's largest diamonds continues with the recent recovery of a 692.3 carat diamond. This stone is the 20th diamond larger than 100 carats recovered, during 2023, at Karowe. The recovery of large diamonds from the EM/PK(S) lithology of the South Lobe strongly supports our expectations for the underground project where the majority of material mined will constitute this phase of kimberlite during the first years of Underground production."
