Abbotsford Gogos invite you to join us as we welcome the Stephen Lewis Foundation 20th Anniversary Solidarity Quilt. This quilt, stitched together over 4 months by groups in 10 Canadian communities, combines contributions from grandmothers in Canada and six Sub-Saharan African countries. The quilt celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the role grandmothers play in the fabric of their communities and families, and how they come together to strengthen one another.

The quilt, Nurturing Generations Under The Canopy of Sisterhood depicts a grandmother tree, arms outstretched in a demonstration of her competence and headship, with roots running deep into the heart of her community. Beneath her canopy are seedlings, symbolizing the children she has cared for during the AIDS pandemic and beyond. Finishing the quilt, are the leaves - each one a unique piece reflecting the communities they came from across the country and from Africa.

The quilt will be on display at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from December 14 to January 6.

Please also visit the Chilliwack Visual Artists’ Association FYBR 2RT exhibit ‘The Golden Mean – Interpretations’ at the O’Connor Group Art Gallery. This exhibit runs from December 6 to January 6.

The Chilliwack Cultural Centre at 9021 Corbould St. in Chilliwack is open Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm.

This year, the world marks the 35th commemoration of with the theme “Let Communities Lead”. We have also reached a milestone in the history of the SLF – 20 years of partnership with communities in sub-Saharan Africa who are building a future free from AIDS.

Since its beginnings in 2003, the SLF has raised more than $192 million in support of our community-led partners in countries severely affected by HIV and AIDS. Today, thanks to their leadership, grandchildren are in school and thriving, grandmothers are courageous advocates for their families, and people living with HIV have more access to counselling support and home-based care than ever before. None of this would have been possible without the compassion and generosity of supporters like you.

With your help this World AIDS Day, we can support the leadership of community-led organizations and continue to ramp up funding so they can roll out the same care, counselling, and support to the many thousands more who still need it each year. Make a gift today: theslf.org/WAD-donate

Last month more than 750 grandmothers gathered in-person and virtually at 11 International Grandmothers Gatherings convened by The Stephen Lewis Foundation and community-led organizations. The International Grandmothers Gathering Statement is their joint call to action and their pledge to continue their work together.

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE! The good news is that you have more time to order. Order deadline is October 31. Pick up date is November 4.
We are excited to share with you that it’s Samosa time again. Many of you have been asking when those tasty samosas would be available. It’s now! We have a very short window of opportunity to bring these to you (working around holidays and upcoming Christmas craft markets).

The Daughters of Hope, who make these yummy Kenyan Samosas are our partners, as always! Both beef and veggie samosas are available at the same price as before. (And that makes this an even more exciting event!!)

A reminder that the Kenyan Samosas are smaller than the Indian samosas we are familiar with locally and these samosas are not filled with potato. A teaser photo of the beef samosa is attached. They make a great lunch or snack or partner with a salad for dinner. With the busy holiday season approaching, they’ll be great for entertaining. The biggest challenge is not eating them all at one sitting! (Please don’t ask how we know this.) We might also have homemade mango and/or pear ginger chutney available for sale at the same time. ($10 per jar) (We just tasted the chutneys and they’re fabulous!!)

The bag of 6 beef samosas is $12 and a bag of 6 veggie is $9. Orders must be in by October 31 and pick up will be in the afternoon on Saturday, November 4 in central Abbotsford. Payment can be by etransfer to [email protected] or cash at time of pick up (Please note which method of payment you’ll use when you order). Address and exact time will be sent to those who place orders. Also please let us know if you might be interested in the mango and/or pear ginger chutney…first ordered, first served!

Taste testing the chutneys! Mango? or Pear and Ginger? They're both fabulous! The only choice might be a jar of each.

10/21/2023

It's samosa time again! Those delicious Kenyan style samosas are only available on a limited basis. They make a great lunch or snack or partner with a salad for dinner. With the busy holiday season approaching, they’ll be great for entertaining. The biggest challenge is not eating them all at one sitting! (Please don’t ask how we know this.) We also have limited amounts of homemade mango chutney or pear and ginger chutney available. ($10 per jar)

The bag of 6 beef samosas is $12 and a bag of 6 veggie is $9. Orders must be in by Wednesday, October 25th and pick up will be in the afternoon on Saturday, October 28th in central Abbotsford.
