I've been wrapping all of these fibres for the past week and have a big bin full of beautiful colours to play with. These are all nonsuperwash which is fantastic for spinning and felting! I have met a few people who felt and told me these are perfect for their projects. It makes me super happy to learning about your needs and being able to provide it.
Mixed scrappy packs will be up on the website soon! I will also be doing a little sale in the shop to make space for new fibres coming in 😍

I just popped in some rolag sets in the shop!

The Superfine Merino/Alpaca/Camel/Mulberry Silk never gets old. It looks stunning on a braid, and still stunning on handspun yarn. The strips of silk accentuates all the bumps and curves on the finished yarn but I wholeheartedly accept it.
Hot Take: this blend spins much easier on a woolen prep like rolags. I have spun it both from braid and rolags and I must say, it is wayyyy easier on rolags - rolag/punis to be exact.
How would you spin this blend?
Another fibre drop for all of you! The shop is loaded with newly dyed fibres that is heavily leaning to spring. We got some Finn, Whitefaced Woodland, Merino/Alpaca/Camel/Silk, Punta Arenas, Alpaca/BFL/Polwarth, and the exquisite Falkland Merino/Llama/Silk/Baby Camel blend.
FYI, that Punta Arenas is so soft. I have a 100g resting on my bobbin at the moment and it is so easy to spin. Highly recommend for all you fine wool lovers ❤

I hope you find something you like 😘
These amazing turkish spindles from .cherry are coming to Toronto! I am so excited to carry these gorgeous creations from Galina. These particular ones are made from Apple wood.
I hope you can make it this May 2024!
I am a vendor this coming May! I will be showing previews the closer we get to the date!
The shop is loaded with new goodies such as these wonderful braids of Texel :) Medium wool always get me.
You can get them now on the website www.akararose.com
I've been working on my by . I'm knitting mine with different combinations of handspun and hand-dyed yarn. Its nice to test and see which combo I like best. To no surprise, I like the effect of the handspun yarn from a batt. It fills all every little nook and cranny. And it also creates such a light and airy fabric.
The shop will be loaded tomorrow at 1pm EST. If you are looking for something soft, luxurious and smooth your face on it, this is the one to go to. The website will be loaded up with Punta Arenas, Merino/Alpaca/Camel/Silk, Alpaca/BFL Polwarth, and the newest blend Falkland Merino/Baby Camel/Eri Silk/Llama.

The prep for the shows this year is in full swing. That means dyeing, writing notes and ideas, making samples and spinning dyed fibres. I'm also working on a secret thing in the background which will be revealed soon.
I already finished my and blocking at the moment. That was super fun and quick to do!
One of my favourite things to use to keep myself on track is my . I've tried different sizes and found the Undated Small version was more my pace. I skip some days where there isn't much happening and letting it flow and other days is jam-packed with thoughts and more of a diary.
How do you keep track of your days? Or do you go with the flow?
This is 'Lush' dyed on the light and dark grey British wool. If you don't know by now, I love heathery wool or anything that is a dark wool. It creates magic in the shadows while the colours dance in the pan. With the use of dyes I usually glaze over has been the ones I reach for. It is refreshing. It's like pressing a restart button in my brain and look at things in a different perspective. Dyeing has always been an artistic outlet but it also has direction and reason. This is my form of therapy. What is yours?
Both singles have been spun for a 2-ply and will be resting for a few days. I do rest my bobbins I would say around 95% of the time. Do you rest your singles? Or do you go and just ply it?
I'm so eager to see the end result from my post yesterday. Curiosity is a big motivator for me specially for experiments and learning. As much as I know a lot of things, I'm always a student at heart ❤️ it doesn't matter the age! I spun the Dark Brown British wool for the first time and it really likes to be spun fine. I let the wool speak for itself based on intuition and touch. Do you spin because you want to spin it that way? Or do you spin because the wool told you it wants to be spun that way?
After much deliberation of how I wanted my to look, I will be doing a combo spin for mine. I will spin the little bundles of fibres in a gradient style and the full braid of the British wool will most likely be split in two. Spinning fibres for a project with an overthinker like me can get overwhelming. But there is also a part of me that says, go play! So I have combined both of those 2 thoughts and voila! I think this will work.
How do you go about your planning for spinning? Do you tend to wing it? Or do you tend really plan it out?
This will become the by
Fibres - Mixed Scrappy Pack -100 grams and a braid of 'Underwater City' dyed on Dark Brown British wool
Fibres are available in the shop
I've been knitting my by little by little almost every night. I love seeing how the colours change every stitch of my handspun yarn. This was a combo spin that I plied together with 'Luminaries' dyed on Merino/Alpaca/Camel/Silk and Norbuillet wool. And the yarn I used here is my BFL Fi*****ng 2-Ply along with a Cashmere Silk Lace dyed with the colourway 'Moccachino'.

Which fibre would you pick?
I've always been in love with darker wool. To apply the colours and leave some parts of it in its natural state it was in and show its glow. Give me dark wool, all day, everyday 💃
The photo shown above is dyed on British Wool. This was so difficult to capture with my usual way of taking photos. This seems to be the right balance of the colours showing itself and creating enough shadows to play. This will be next on my wheel for sure.
My box of a mixed scrappy pack about to be spun. I think I will be spinning this in a gradient and chain-ply to preserve the colours.
Hi everyone! I'm still alive! Just finished wrapping up a wholesale order and onto the new things!
First thing in order is a shop update this Friday at 1pm EST. There will a few Corriedale braids along with these fun little nuggets which I haven't had in awhile. These are a mix of lonely braids along with some natural coloured fibres which is so lovely. I also dyed up some lonely braids as well which are great. They just didn't make the cut since there are only a few of each. I will be posting previews of what you may receive as a mystery fibre bundle. I have spun these before and they were quite fun! If you get bored easily and want to feel different textures in a short time, this is your best bet!
I also sent the newsletter for all my subscribers which get the first scoop on anything new that is coming. So if you want to be the first to know, get on that subscription list.
Tomorrow at 1pm EST, the shop will be loaded with new fibres. What is available? Finn and 3 colours of British wool. On this photo, is the light grey version. It takes the dye beautifully and I love how they are all different in feel. To name a few breeds that may contain these tops are Jacob, Southdown, Suffolk, Hampshire and Shropshire. If you like your medium wools, you will love these.
See ya tomorrow!
Shop Update will be on the website at www.akarayarns.com
