Q: What should I avoid after getting my laser treatment?

A: Hot showers, exercises and activities that increase body temperature should be avoided for 24 hrs after treatment. Always apply sunscreen!

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: Approximately 6-12 treatments are needed, it may be more or less depending on each individual’s hair type.

Q: How often do I need to come in for treatments?

A: Typically every 4-6 weeks depending on the part of the body. Hair grows in cycles and laser hair removal is most effective during the first stage of growth known as the anagen stage (when hair is actively growing).

Are you wondering why you’re not getting good results with laser hair removal? Here are a few factors to consider:

① Shaving. Freshly shaved skin is the best time for a laser treatment. There should be hair in the follicle but not above the skin. You can continue to shave in between visits. Lasers heat the hair to damage the stem cells in hair follicles.

② Laser settings matter. You want to make sure the technician does hair removal regularly so they are well versed with the technology - every day versus once or twice a month. Using the appropriate settings based on the Fitzpatrick scale is essential to achieving the best results and avoiding adverse side effects.

③ Consistency. The standard time between appointments is four to six weeks. It’s usually takes five sessions to achieve satisfactory hair reduction. The problem is that people will get two or three treatments and then six months later they come back and say it all grew back. You have to repetitively traumatize the follicle. Certain areas with thick hair may require additional sessions.

④ Crazy high expectations. Most areas will have about a 85-90% reduction in hair. Different areas will show different results, but there will likely still be a few hairs showing back up.

It is important to begin exfoliating one week post laser hair removal. Exfoliation helps the shedding process and will help breakdown the treated hair and expel it from underneath the skin. To exfoliate you can use a washcloth, a loofah, or an exfoliating shower wash to help speed up the process.
