Dad needs a kidney!!
Dad needs help! His kidneys are failing. He desperately needs a new kidney. His doctors have told him that a living donor kidney transplant is the only thing for a longer and better life. He found out only 6 months ago that he has end life Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This was a shock to all of us since he has always been so very tough, active and healthy. His CKD didn’t show any of the symptoms until now.
About our Dad: He is one of the senior instructors for Canada Shotokan Karate for some 50 years and still is an inspiration to all that he taught. He still helps teach the senior students every week. He was instrumental in producing many outstanding senior black belts especially at UBC.
He is an passionate fisherman, scaring salmon from North to South. He chases steelhead and salmon in rivers in BC with his lifelong buddy, Norman. Norman taught him how to fly fish for these huge fish! He taught Paris and I how to fish at ages 4 and 7. The fish were always safe when he got his waders wet! Last year, he took up trap shooting, and it has become one of his favourite new hobbies. As usual he jumped in with both feet. He is a darn good shot too! He has become the safety officer of the club and actively helps beginners start.
Dad has always been there for all of us and was always supportive of whatever we did, academically and in our sports. Through his encouragement, we all have flourished in our professions as a professional soccer player, equine therapist and hospital technician.
He has beaten 2 emergency death defying surgeries that would have killed others. And he survived a float plane crash too. Of his nine lives, we think he has a couple more left. Help him use up another one!
Now it’s our turn to help him. Please help us help him by finding a donor. Time is critical now.
If you can donate, please contact the donor nurse coordinator at Vancouver General Hospital (Tel: 604 875-5182 or toll free at 1- 855-875-5182 or email at [email protected]) or on the BC Transplant website (www.transplant.bc.ca).
