Some words from Scott........

Hello
My name is Scott Brian Duiven, I am the Youngest & the best looking son of Janet Lynn Duiven
I'd like to thank you all for being here with us to celebrate our Mothers Life
I remember the first time Mom and I came here to Saint Luke's Anglican Church , she was hooked it made her feel close to her Grandfather and close to God . This Church ment alot to my mother and so did the friend she made here.

My life Started in Belleville Ontario, in 1975 in August of 1977 we moved to Calgary
This was our neighborhood
We lived in Dover we weren't rich we weren't poor but I always felt Loved mom would always be there to cheer us on pick us up when we were down tell us were loved or even to Break a wooden spoon over your Butt when needed or the strap and trust me I had my share of both
I wasn't the best son I got in a lot of trouble over my years and Mom was always on my side.

Mom always made sure I could go on crazy adventures, like summer camps & doing things like white water rafting, skiing, horseback riding,
She'd always find away to pay for it all even if it meant she'd go without something she needed.

In 1992 I was in High school when Mom had her first Brain aneurysm I think this was a real turning point in my life.
I sat in her hospital room in Calgary General Hospital holding her hand alone just mom and I was 17years old and I was in there asking for forgiveness for all I had put her through and to tell her that I Love her and saying Goodbye not knowing if she was going to see her again not sure if she would live through the surgery or even if she would make it to the hospital in London Ontario.
Mom Made it through and the relief was amazing
Mom's Second aneurysm in 2000 we almost lost her again. That time we all did it again we said our goodbyes and we cried and again mom told me She Loved me but I always knew that

You'd think it gets easier with practice but I'm telling you it doesn't

I am So thankful for the years between Mom's 1st Aneurysm to Mom's passing
I'm happy that Mom was here here to be a grandma to my Sons Lucas and Brodie for being strong enough to see them grow up into the men they are throughout all her health struggles.

A few months back Mom took the 3 of us Sons Brothers out for Dinner just the 4 of us to tell us that her health was not good the Dr. Said that there wasn't much they can do and her time was getting shorter.
I am so happy Mom got to go spend some quality time this last Summer with her Brother Brian in Thunder Bay Ontario and other Loved Family Members in Belleville Ontario
I just had my 47th Birthday on my Birthday I took a job up to Yellowknife N.W.T on my way back home on that Friday afternoon i called Mom from HighLevel area where I had cell service we chatted and she reminded me that my Birthday card and oddly a Present were on the kitchen table waiting for me when I get back and that we would go out for Birthday dinner when I get back home
Well I Didn't get back home till around 9pm
I didn't call to say hey I'm home, because I thought Mom would be in bed sleeping, I thought I'll call Mom after Church and go see her. For the afternoon and we'd go for Dinner

I got a text and other messages on Facebook messages from ladies from the church and apartment complex with concerns of mothers whereabouts
I called and was unable able to contact Mom so I called and spoke with both Chris and Ian
We all met at the apartment,
I'd like to say that I am thankful for my Brother's being there with me.
Mom was at peace as she passed away peacefully in her bed asleep

Mom loved singing in the music group here at the church we both shared the love of singing I feel she's the reason I love music as much as I do

I found myself here the other day sitting in the parking lot looking over at Mom and Dad's apartment it was just in the building south of here
I was driving past and I just had to stop in to say hi
As I was parked here I felt at ease I felt Mom was Close it made sense to me because she was so attached to this Church

I thank my Mother for the Love she gave me it truly was unconditional
I will miss you daily and you will always be part of me and in my thoughts and heart always
Until we meet again

Praise God. Our Mom has gone to be with the Lord!

Janet Lynn Duiven (nee Shappee), was born July 23, 1946, in Belleville, Ontario, and passed peacefully on Oct. 16, 2022, in Calgary, Alberta.

Jan was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Doug (Aug. 27, 2021). She is survived by her brother Brian and his wife Kristina Shappee, their son David, and wife Alla of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Her three sons Chris and his wife Rena, Ian and his wife Vicki, and Scott and his wife Christine. She was Grandma to Jason, Daylan, Skylar, Lucas, Brodie, Lauren, and Shannon. She is also survived by special family, Susan Musgrave, of Toronto, Ontario.

Mom dealt with some adverse health issues over the years, surviving a brain aneurysm in 1992, and another in 2000. Mom was very strong in her faith and considered it a miracle that she was still here. She was so thankful she got to spend those bonus years with family and friends. We hope her legacy will be the love she shared with all.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Janet at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at St. Luke’s Anglican Church
2951 - 26 Ave SE, Calgary AB

Following the service, there will be a light lunch at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Luke’s Anglican Church.
