Do you have events coming up? Weddings? Showers? In this week's new podcast episode (S2E7) I share when I had a "Bad Body Image" Day (well week), and how I overcame it to attend an event. This wraps up my Three Pillars of Body Acceptance series and how I used them to overcome my own "Bad Body Image" week in order to attend an event. You're not alone, we all have "Bad Body Image" days or weeks. Listen in to learn how I overcame it and how you can too, the next time one of those creeps up! After having a baby, many moms I work with feel dissatisfied with their postpartum body. They often think that the only way to feel good about their bodies again is by "losing the baby weight". However, after months or even years of trying to no avail, they feel defeated and exhausted, not only because being a mom is hard work, but also because adding on the mental stress of dieting, calorie counting, and strenuous exercise makes being a mother even more stressful!
What if I told you, that body acceptance doesn't come from a diet or exercise program?
What a relief, right?!
It IS possible to accept your current body as it is, and move forward in your life with confidence, power, and passion to be the woman and Mom you've always wanted to be!
Here are the first 3 Pillars for Body Acceptance and an easy action step you can do right now, to get on the path to accepting your current body at any size, and developing health-promoting behaviors to support you and your kids now and in the future!
Step 1- Self-Kindness
Step 2- Tune into your body cues
Step 3- Honor your needs
Step 4- Download the Free Guide (link in bio).
I also have podcast episodes you can listen to about these topics.
Listen to Season 2 Episodes 4, 5, & 6 of The Motherhood UnDieted Podcast (link in bio) for more info about these Pillars of Body Acceptance.
In light of the new AAP guidelines for children (often recommending weight loss medication for kids!) I am sharing this awesome post by
There is so much concern about the new Guidelines that were released this week.
We've been asked - what does a well-child visit look like if the focus isn't on weight? We have a blog post on this topic - ** link in bio to read.**
Regardless of a child's size, at a well-child visit, a physician can focus on true indictors and behaviors of health.
~ Mental Health
~ Sleep
~ Exercise/Movement
~ Safety
~ Food Environment
Read our full blog post for more details. ** link in bio **
We are not advocating for weight to be ignored, we're advocating for weight to not be the only focus of a visit and for age appropriate discussions to happen in front of children. Children should be gaining weight and developing. Weight fluctuates can be an indicator of a concern. So, it's important for a child's growth to be tracked. However, by indicating a child's size is a disease and then only focusing on "addressing" a child's size, medical providers do so much harm. 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺.
We are concerned about the harm these guidelines will cause. There is so much work to do to understand and address health disparities, medical weight stigma, weight cycling and much more. These guidelines do mention these concerns, but do not attempt to address them, but instead will exacerbate the harm that is caused by medical providers.
The new AAP Guidelines acknowledge health disparities in relation to race, experience of weight stigma, and adverse childhood events - and STILL recommend harmful interventions (weight loss interventions, weight loss medications, and bariatric surgery) that will thus impact more marginalized communities...and further cause health disparities.
Sharing this great post by about her experience taking a now popular weight loss drug.
This is a vulnerable post, but one I felt compelled to share.
There has been so much news lately about medications being used 'off label', meaning they're not being used for their original intended use.
While some people are being prescribed these medications to help manage a true medical diagnosis like diabetes, that's not always the case, and it's getting out of control.
If you've been told that losing weight is the answer to all your medical concerns, please consider the source of this information. Also, do your research to see what some of the studies are showing because from what I've learned, the long-term 'success' rates are not good.
We all have permission to do whatever we choose with our bodies. All I'm suggesting is that all options be considered before making a decision and understand the far-reaching effects of medical weight stigma.
Thank you ,
and .fatty for helping to educate us about this important topic.
The good thing about Intuitive Eating is that you don’t need to worry about making every meal (or calorie) “count”. Not all meals have to be amazing. Sometimes food is just food and you honour your hunger by eating it, even if it’s not the most wonderful thing in the world. Eat, nourish, move on! And you know that another time your food can be more interesting when you are able to make it interesting!
Thanks for this great reminder!
Just a friendly reminder that sometimes food just is what it is….nourishment! You have to eat to survive and to be honest I have made some concoctions that have not been so appetizing BUT, I still ate them.
I ate them because:
-I knew I needed it to show up in the activity that I was doing
-I knew I needed energy
-I did not have money to purchase something different
-I did not have anything else available
-I didn’t have time to make anything else
Sometimes food is just what it is…nourishment. We eat it and then move on.

Hey! It seems sickness wants one last kick at the can before my son finishes off school this year. While I’d love to be able to have a moment to record this week’s podcast for you all for tomorrow….my role as a Mom comes first. I am IN IT right now. While my son is older and in the double digits (barely), he still likes to have me near him when he’s sick. And so, I am taking this time to be present WITH him and making the best of it. My family comes first, and I’m so glad that I have the flexibility to be there for my son when he needs me.
One day this will change, but not today. So Mama, if you are also setting things aside to be present with your kids for any reason, know that I see you and I’m with you too.
I will let you know when the next episode will be coming out, and in the meantime, feel free to catch-up on my previous episodes in Season 1 & 2! You can also get started right away to feel better about your current body without the diet culture thinking, by downloading my free guide! Link in bio to download and for the podcast.
I look forward to speaking with you soon!
With National Indigenous Day tomorrow, I’m sharing this post by a Navajo and dietitian . Recognizing that eating a certain way in and of itself points to a privileged life. Thanks for sharing this important message. For more, give a follow!
As a dietitian working for my Indigenous community, I often hear there are certain *real* things our people face which prevent them from living the healthiest they can be. These are real things people encounter and when we design nutrition programs, we must keep these in mind. Offering unrealistic advice never works and actually can feel a little judgey.
Comment below if you can think of any "privileges" we hear from health professionals that can seem like privileges.
I'd love to hear your thought because it also helps me improve my own services and education I provide. I'm all for empowering my people and *actually* listening and receiving feedback goes a long way to accomplish this.
This was posted by my colleague for the holidays, but this applies for all holidays including summer holidays, BBQs, road trips, camping etc! She also has awesome reels, so check-out her account, you’ll be glad you did!
As holiday meals approach, I want to remind you that you do not need permission to eat. Not your first, second, or fifth plate. You are allowed to enjoy every bite you take and maybe even eat past your fullness if that feels good!
Food is more than just fuel. It can be comfort, a powerful memory of a loved one, a way to feel connected to your vessel.
For those of us with an ED history it can also be a complicated relationship, so please know that I see you and I’m holding space for you in your recovery journey.

Just Kidding! You already have your "Summer Body", Mama! Diet culture tells us that we need to get our bodies "summer ready", aka jump on another "Beach Body" diet and exercise plan...which implies, our bodies aren't good enough to have fun in the sun, as we are! But Mama, you know I don't buy this! So here are some TRUTHS and reminders about our bodies this summer.
1- Your body size does not🚫 equal your worth, ever!
2- What you think about your body has everything to do with how you feel about it.
3- Your kids don't care what you look like, they just want you to be present with them and experience the fun of playing in the pool, going for a bike ride, or any other summer activity WITH you! So, don't sit on the sidelines anymore, go and make some summer memories! Your kids will thank you.

Sharing this reminder from Dr. Lisa of
Just a friendly reminder...to my mamas and really to all humans.
Sure, wear makeup if you enjoy how it enhances your beauty.
Absolutely, dress in a way that makes you feel confident and happy.
Of course, you should workout and eat well to take good care of your body.
But, under no circumstances are you REQUIRED to look a certain way or maintain a certain weight to meet some pretend standard of beauty or acceptance.
So, if you've ever heard "you let yourself go," I'd like to help you reframe that with this response:
💫 Yes, I've let myself go...I've allowed myself to live and be free of any pressure to look or be a certain way. I no longer carry the weight of anyone's else's standards or requirements. I resepct that my body changes and I understand that that has NO impact on my value, worth or goodness as a human being. 💫
Okay, now repeat that as many times as you need to until you actually believe it.

This is such an important piece about weight and body control that all diets out there neglect to inform their consumers about!!!! Thank you for describing it so succinctly in this post! Read bellow and follow for more info!
Diet culture reinforces ‘controlling’ our weight and body via exercise and diet. WE CANNOT CONTROL OUR WEIGHT OR BODY. Inside each of our brains is housed the hypothalamus. This part of the brain keeps our body in homeostasis. Part of maintaining homeostasis involves managing our energy. Diet culture would like to make you believe that this is a fully conscious process without giving any credit to the complex unconscious processes in place that work tirelessly to keep our body in a state of homeostasis. We do not have control over appetite, hunger, energy expenditure, thermoregulation, hormone regulation and other countless processes. This is why we need to LISTEN to our wise bodies that are fighting for us. Let go of control and LISTEN ❤️

This is such a great post from I developed an eating disorder as a pre-teen ballet dancer bc i didn’t like the weight gain I was experiencing and didn’t know it was a normal thing that happens during puberty. I wish the adults in my life, including my doctor, had known this and had said something to me about it. Also, please know that this weight gain also happens for boys. It’s even less talked about, so before starting down the slippery slope of food restriction and dieting, please find out more info either from myself, Jenn, or the
Checkout the full post on her page. But here’s the caption.
“ ⚠️Is your pr***en or teen gaining weight? ⚠️
Before you freak out, check out the straight facts on weight gain during puberty and why the "puberty pudge" is absolutely critical to the transition from a child to an adult. This can start as early as 8 years old in some girls but doesn’t tend to happen for boys until closer to 10/11. Scroll through to learn how we can help kids feel good about these changes in their bodies!
Puberty is the second most rapid time of growth (second only to the child’s first year of life) and weight gain is crucial for their development, as it allows for:
🩻Bone growth and strengthening
❤️Organ growth
💪Muscle growth
🩸Increased fat storage to prepare a girl’s body to start menstruation (and eventually pregnancy)
We know that kids with positive body image eat a healthier diet, participate in more exercise and are less likely to internalize unrealistic media images, and are less likely to engage in risky behaviours like dieting, drugs and alcohol. “

Highlighting as the non-diet practitioner to follow today! Food restriction may well be what’s causing you to feel “addicted” to food.
Hey sis! Do you ever feel like a food addict?
If you answered yes, I have a message for you!👇🏾
There are so many delicious foods in this world, and it’s okay to enjoy them! You’re not a food addict, or a bad person for honouring your hunger — or eating what your body craves.
It’s sad that our culture glamourizes 𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 even though we all 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 energy from 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 to survive and thrive in our everyday lives. Being in a constant state of hunger is not what life is all about!
Restriction is what makes you obsess about food, and It’s hard to eat intuitively when you’re starving. It’s interesting, because when you’re starved — the food choices you make are completely different than they would be if you were adequately nourishing your body throughout the day.🙆🏾♀️
This leads to binging and then 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 guilty afterwards…but sis, there’s 𝐧𝐨 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐳𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝. You don’t have to go through that! The truth is that ALL 𝐅𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐒 can fit in a healthy diet.🙌🏾
It's better to 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 treats into your diet than restrict them all together. Being 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 about enjoying what you eat, and not labeling it as good or bad is what gives you 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 and the 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 to 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 food without all the 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭.🙅🏾♀️
𝐒𝐈𝐒! You're allowed to 𝐞𝐚𝐭 what you 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 and 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐧 with your day!💕
Episode 2 of Season 2 of the Motherhood UnDieted Podcast just dropped! “When they’re acknowledged, they will rise”. Great night at the last stop of the “Feeling Seen” book tour with ! It was also great to get a quick “hello” in with If you haven’t read the book, I highly recommend it!
Sometimes self-care is going for a solo walk, without the dog, and surprisingly being reminded of the times I went to the “duck pond” with my late Grandpa, in White Rock BC. I’m thankful for that memory and the many times we went there together. No matter my age or his, we’d make time to go there together. 💗
Have you ever looked at your body in the mirror and wondered who that person was?
Women have always faced physiological changes in their bodies, between growing and puberty our bodies change shape and size in different seasons of our lives.
But because of societal norms of “what a body should look like after pregnancy” women place these unachievable expectations of what they want their bodies to look like post-pregnancy.
Like my client, Krista, check out how I helped her transition through this mindset change.
“I attended an online motherhood conference where I was first introduced to Gillian. I loved her perspective on how to thrive in motherhood and joined a ‘5 days to thrive in motherhood’ Facebook challenge with her and loved it! The challenge really made me reflect on some of the societal and patriarchal pressures (especially) mothers face daily. I continue to implement and reflect on the teachings and discussions from this challenge as I continue to grow as a mother.”
You don’t have to suffer under these unhealthy body ideals any longer. My goal as a coach is to free you of these perfectionistic ways of thinking so that you can be the mother, friend, and partner you want to be!
I can teach you how to live this way whether you're ready to dive deep into changing your mindset or dipping your toes to understand tools to changing your life.

Are you exhausted from the constant yo-yo dieting that consumes your life?
I know how challenging it is mentally and physically because I’ve been there too!
I was that mom who was so focused on losing the baby weight thinking it was the magic bullet, only to find that nothing else in my life had changed!!
And just like after every diet, my weight always cycled back up (no matter how hard I tried) and the stress of trying to maintain a certain "ideal body" along with all the other invisible stressors of motherhood, eventually affected my physical health along with my mental health.
Until one day, I had enough and said NO MORE!
But I can’t say that my journey didn’t take time and work. I needed to uncover beliefs about food and body acceptance that were rooted in diet culture.
I needed to learn how to respect food for the nourishment it gives my body without restrictions!
I saw the amount of stress I was putting on myself and let's not forget I am a wife and mother (WE DON’T NEED ADDED STRESS!)
That’s why I became a Mind-Body Eating Coach and a Motherhood Coach, combined I call myself the Embodied Motherhood Coach. I want to help moms see their bodies as a partner in life versus something that they need to change and control.
If you want a "quick start" to moving away from dieting and into a more in-tuned and easy life as a mother, check out my new e-course 5 Days to Thrive in Motherhood (other than losing the baby weight)!

Have you ever defined health as thin?
Don’t worry most people do.
Diet and health industries have created this social belief that thin equates to health- but we all know that not all bodies that are thin are healthy and healthy doesn’t mean you are thin.
So what does healthy look like?
My goal is to help moms go from dieting and hating their bodies to trusting themselves with food and trusting their bodies at any size.
Because I am on a mission to help moms accept their bodies and let go of the mental noise of dieting and diet culture so they can live purposeful lives and be present with their kids and family!

Adventure
Did you know that I too was caught in the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting?
After having my son all I thought about was getting back to my pre-baby body.
During my pregnancy I loved and appreciated the body that provided a safe place to grow my baby, but once my body no longer housed my son inside it was like I forgot the miracle it had just given me.
I know many moms have felt the same. It’s a strange concept to think that our bodies should “bounce” back after growing a human inside of them for almost 10 months.
It’s unfair to mothers to feel this pressure to learn their new role and juggle too many hats of being a parent and partner while also feeling devalued for a body that grew life.
This was one of the reasons that inspired me to become a mind-body-eating health coach. I want to empower moms to lose the guilt, eat normally, accept their bodies, and raise kids who are happy eaters and confident in their bodies!
I want to help you so your kids can grow up to feel confident about themselves, have a positive relationship with food and respect and appreciate their bodies through Intuitive Eating, Health Promoting Behaviors, and Body Acceptance. All while walking with you along your motherhood journey.
Do you want to know more about how I can help you change your relationship with yourself and food, and help with your frustrations in motherhood? Check out my blog where I share tools and resources to start your journey toward redefining your “health” and motherhood.

If I told you there was a way to live your life where you feel good about yourself and your body by just eating normally would you try it?
What about if I told you that this way of life brings joy and healthy behaviours towards food that is beneficial to you and your family?
This life is achievable because I live it every day and I can show you how.
My passion is to empower moms like you to make peace with themselves by accepting your body at any size through learning the key mindset strategies to help with the mental load of motherhood and life.
But I also teach you about Intuitive Eating by teaching you how to make peace with food by tuning into your intuition and body cues.
The synergy of these two methods supports mothers like you and me to grow a healthy relationship with ourselves and food that we can role model to our children.
Are you ready to eat with fewer limits and live with more love?

I usually am not a fan of Barbie because of her unattainable figure. However, I couldn’t pass up on Redefining Barbie! In my world, Barbie comes in all shapes, sizes, skin colours and gender, and mothers in a way that works best for their children and lives their dreams, not in a mansion, but in whatever way they want! With love, acceptance, and respect.
Here's a little mid-week reminder. You're worth more than any number on a scale! So many moms and women are living with the focus of shrinking their bodies, but that's not living at all. When we all look up, that's when the true living begins!
xox,
Gillian💗
Diet-Culture has led moms to believe that "losing the baby weight" must be done soon after having the baby, leading to restrictive diets, strenuous exercise, and mom exhaustion! This does not need to happen!!!!
Moms' postpartum bodies continue to serve a major purpose for themselves and their baby beyond birth! From helping with breastfeeding, hormones, energy, and many more ways. So, instead of starting a strict diet and high-intensity exercise program postpartum, I encourage the moms I work with to move their bodies in ways that feel good for them for the joy of movement, not to change their body shape, but to help improve their mood, and to embody their new body.
This movement can include dancing in the living room with the baby, walking up and down stairs (once able) while doing things in their house, and going for a walk in nature with the baby and a friend, and many more! There are so many more ways to move with and without the baby that doesn't include punishing exercise!
What is your favorite way to move your body?👇👇👇
