We're thrilled to share an incredible feature from Impact Magazine on our very own Vanisha Breault, the unstoppable force behind the Terminator Foundation! Vanisha’s journey from enduring personal hardships to founding the Terminator Foundation is a powerful testament to turning pain into purpose. Through her leadership and dedication, Terminator Foundation and the ABRT program is helping hundreds overcome addiction and reclaim their strength.

Read the full story here: https://impactmagazine.ca/.../athletes.../active-recovery/.

Thank you, IMPACT Magazine Rachel Debling and Trudie Lee Photography!

Introducing our Athlete with Impact, Vanisha Breault.

For many, exercise is the go-to during tough times, providing a rush of adrenaline, consistency, and goal-setting rewards. But for Vanisha Breault, during her darkest days, athletics wasn’t just a distraction—it was a way to confront her pain head-on.

Vanisha’s journey—from enduring personal hardships to founding a successful nonprofit—was fueled by love for her daughter, Eden. “It’s like I had a pair of binoculars, and I could see the storm coming,” Vanisha Breault recalls, reflecting on her daughter's generation's shift to drugs like opioids and m**hamphetamine 10-15 years ago. “We're going to lose a whole generation of young people if we don't sound the alarm.”

To mentally put herself in Eden’s shoes and tackle her own issues, Vanisha turned to a form of pain she could control. Despite never learning to swim or being a strong cyclist, she signed up for a half-Ironman. This journey of confronting pain head-on led Vanisha to establish the Terminator Foundation, helping hundreds recover from addiction and trauma by transforming struggles into strength.

Let’s Talk Failure! A tip straight from the OG Terminator himself Arnold Schwarzenegger: Don’t be afraid of failure.

"What you can do to make failure your friend instead of your greatest fear. The first step to losing your fear of failure is sitting down and being honest about the actual risk. Because when you really think about it, when you do the work to be honest with yourself, I think you’re going to find that your fears are completely overblown, that your mind is playing tricks on you.

Going after our big goals is never going to be comfortable. We just have to work to overcome the tricks our brains play on us. And the first step is educating ourselves about what the real risk actually is."

So, face your fears, assess the real risks, and embrace failure as part of your journey.

"The hardest experience working at Terminator is seeing them leave due to relapse. We will never quit on them and it's hard to see them quit on themselves. I really know and believe they can finish and conquer the stories they’re telling themselves in their head of why they can’t finish.

We’re always our own worst critics, but it’s in our vulnerabilities with one another and bringing the fear and doubt and struggles out into the light that we can overcome them and believe in ourselves the way others do. The way I’m sure each recovery coach feels about them. We see it and it is our hope for them to see it in themselves if that makes sense. So when they quit, parts of me feels like I didn’t achieve what I was meant to." - Leah, Recovery Coach

We are excited to bring the Terminator Run for Youth Addiction Awareness to West Vancouver, taking a significant step forward in addressing the urgent crisis of youth addiction and mental health across Canada. More than just awareness, the Terminator Run is a powerful call to action in a country where 60% of illicit drug users are between the ages of 15 and 24, and overdose deaths continue to rise.

In 2015, amidst this growing crisis, Vanisha Breault stood up to make a difference. Driven by her own challenging experiences with her daughter's battle against addiction to fentanyl, m**h, and he**in, Vanisha founded the Terminator Run for Youth Addiction Awareness. Vanisha's story is one of courage and resilience, turning personal anguish into a collective fight against the stigma and isolation that many families face. She established the Terminator Run for Youth Addiction to not only raise awareness but also to catalyze significant change and forge a community built on hope and strength.

Today, the Terminator Foundation stands as a beacon of hope, embodying the triumph of the human spirit. With each story of recovery and every athlete's effort, we deepen our commitment to those battling addiction. The West Vancouver event aims to extend this mission, mobilizing local support and resources to tackle youth addiction head-on.

Our goal for the West Vancouver Terminator Run is to establish a solid presence in the community, paving the way for expanding our life-changing program both in West Vancouver and across the nation. Every contribution supports this expansion, helping us bring hope and recovery to more youths and families affected by addiction.

Join us on September 14, 2024, as we come together to run, walk, and unite in solidarity with individuals and families affected by addiction and mental health challenges. You are invited to the West Vancouver Terminator Run for Youth Addiction Awareness!

Working with Terminator makes me feel like lives can be transformed; what athletes work through in the 12-week program can be applied to so many aspects of daily life; improving capacity, resiliency and overall mental (and physical) health. One great experience has been getting to know the coaches and athletes. There is so much dedication, compassion and energy during the training sessions." - Holly, Program Manager

We're on a mission to expand and bring our ABRT (Activity-Based Recovery Therapy) program to more people across Canada. Our program is unique in Canada, blending physical activity with therapy to support those overcoming addiction and mental health challenges.

Exercise is a powerful yet underutilized tool in treating substance abuse and addiction. Through our ABRT program, we see firsthand how movement can ignite the brain, build strength, and foster hope and belief.

Every day, we're inspired by the determination and progress of our athletes. We know that with the right support, everyone has the potential to break barriers and achieve what once seemed impossible. And now, we're excited and preparing to extend this support to more communities across the nation.

We're looking forward to sharing more about our journey and the incredible stories of those who are transforming their lives through our program. Because the truth is you can recover.
