Supporting families by restoring independent living, in our community.

06/17/2024

After an incredible 3 months off with our baby girl, I will be returning to work, part-time on July 2nd.

I’m excited to get back to the CK Performance Health community in 2 weeks 😊💙

02/15/2023

Let us let you in on a little secret, mama.

You don’t have to live with discomfort just because you had a baby – motherhood is NOT a diagnosis.

✓ If you’re experiencing shame from peeing when you run or jump, our team at CK Performance Health can provide you with exercises to help with this issue.

✓ If you have lower back pain that you are struggling with, our pelvic floor rehab can assist you in finding relief.

✓ If you’re recovering from a C-Section and need a personal healing plan, our practitioners are here to work with you to develop a plan that addresses the root cause of your pain and is tailored to meet your individual needs.

At CK Performance Health, our goal is to empower you by providing comprehensive postpartum checkups and personalized healing programs to prevent, reduce, and resolve symptoms.

By working with one of our practitioners, you can gain a better understanding of your postpartum journey and regain a sense of comfort in your own body.

This has to be said.👇🏼

Ignoring your discomfort will NOT make it go away.

In fact, what you do (or don’t do) now will affect the next 40-50 years of your life.

To avoid postpartum complications like incontinence, low back pain and pelvic pain, the key is to provide yourself with the same level of care that your baby receives postpartum.

Mama, your postpartum healing can’t wait. It’s time to be proactive rather than reactive and take action before your discomfort becomes a larger problem.

Not sure where to start? That’s where we come in. 😉

Our 6 Week Group Rehab Series starts MARCH 2023.

It’s time we support mothers in their healing! GrowCo is raising the standard of care for women in Chatham-Kent 👊🏼

An evidence-based rehabilitation series that focuses on rebuilding your deep core foundation after birth. By doing so, we can prevent future injuries. Conditions such as; Diastasis recti, pelvic organ prolapse, incontinence, back pain, and pelvic pain are treatable and even preventable if Mothers are educated and willing to take a proactive approach to their healing.

We want to get you back SAFELY to doing what you LOVE ♥️. And here’s how:

Postpartum Initial Assessment ✅
This is an opportunity for Mothers to share their story. More often than not, women have not verbalized their birth experience. This is both emotionally and physically important in your healing. There will also be a thorough physical examination to generate objective findings (breathwork, full body postural assessment, core & pelvic floor assessment (NO internal exam), glute activation, rib mobility, etc.). We will use these findings to help you set personal goals.

Individualized Treatment Plan ✅
We will create a treatment plan that may include both passive care (care provided by a health professional i.e pain management) and active care (GrowCo group rehab series) to ensure you are able to reach your personal goals.

GrowCo Rehab Series ⭐️
👉🏼6 weeks 2x/week (12 sessions total)
👉🏼Recognizes Motherhood is not a diagnosis
👉🏼Fills the gap in postpartum care (specific rehab plan with expected results)
👉🏼Group exercise program (community support)
👉🏼Supervised exercise instruction

✨May be covered through your insurance plan✨

Reassessment ✅
After GrowCO, what next? In your 1 on 1 reassessment we will discuss whether or not you reached your goals and your next steps in your postpartum journey.

Motherhood & the unknown 💭

Motherhood tends to fling you into the unknown.

No matter how much you prepare, no matter how many books you read, you never quite know what’s next for you and your baby. It’s beautiful—but, mama, it’s okay to admit that it can be frustrating, too.

What used to take you an hour may take you two. The nap schedule you just adjusted to will soon go out the window. The growth spurts that lead to colic and sleepless nights will soon be memories.

It’s okay to be frustrated by these dramatic shifts. To cry or to silently wish you could have just one moment to yourself.

But these are the moments to focus on what you can control. To celebrate the little wins and cherish the moments your babies are small (because they come and go faster than you realize).

✨Join the GrowCo Community and never feel like you are in this journey alone. We are all about:

👉🏼 Community
👉🏼 Building Relationships
👉🏼 Support
👉🏼 Education
👉🏼 And most importantly… YOU!

The most damaging ideology in postnatal healing 👇🏼😳.

Believing that common symptoms are “normal.”

Mama, you might be misinterpreting postnatal nuisances as symptoms you have to live with forever simply because you have noticed that they’re common.

Your mom, aunt, and neighbour had (and may still have) many of the issues you’re facing so that means it's normal, right?

Wrong 🤯.

These symptoms all stem back to issues that are often misdiagnosed or unresolved from giving birth.⁣

Our goal is to help you find the “why” behind your symptoms so you don’t just throw up your hands and live with it.

🤔 WHY are you suffering from back pain?

🤔 WHY do you feel like you’re peeing your pants when you jump?

🤔 WHY can’t you lose your mom pooch?

🤔 WHY are you experiencing headaches?

We’re all about educating you by sharing insight into YOUR postpartum journey and helping you feel at home in your body once again.⁣

Wondering what a Postpartum Initial Assessment looks like? 🤔

Sit down and get comfortable. Welcome to your first step on your postpartum journey. 💗

1️⃣ We’ll start by exploring your birth story. This is the most important part of the process. By understanding your unique situation, we’ll be able to see the bigger picture of your healing journey. For example, if you had an episiotomy you have a higher chance of having pelvic organ prolapse in the future. With our support, you’ll take steps in early postpartum to prevent or lessen future symptoms.

2️⃣ From there, we’ll ease into a physical assessment. We’ll see where you are presently in your healing and discuss any previous injuries or pain that you endured (such as your ability to engage your core, the tilt of your pelvis, and practicing breathwork).

3️⃣ Lastly, you’re reminded that you have the power to take action right now. We take all of your data and develop a plan that is unique to you. You’ll leave feeling heard, supported and empowered with an individualized plan that includes hands-on therapy (in-person) and exercise rehabilitation.

⭐️ At CK Performance Health, we have a passion for helping women like you. We’re on a mission to raise the standard of postpartum care for mothers in CK.

Ready to begin your postnatal healing journey? We can’t wait to see you, mama!

What if you find you have a diastasis recti? 💭

Don’t panic! It’s common.

Your abdominals separate at the midline during pregnancy as a normal adaptation to your growing baby. Every woman experiences diastasis recti during pregnancy.

In the immediate postpartum period, you are likely going to have some form of diastasis.

But if it persists or is gone undiagnosed and unresolved, you will start to see symptoms such as weakness, hernias, incontinence, disc herniation, and constipation.

⭐️ GrowCo can monitor the healing of this area through a physical assessment.

We perform this assessment as a baseline so that we can continue to check if you are healing appropriately throughout your care.

Photos from Dr. Leann Finley Jones's post 08/14/2022

People always ask me, Dr. Leann, what's the best rehab plan for after I give birth? 🤔

My answer?

The one that is most realistic for the time and energy you have to put forward into it.

Real talk: it's not going to be a walk in a park to find the time for the rehab. You may need to ask for help, do it on the fly and rely on discipline and not just motivation.

But I know you can do it.

Because you know that healthy mom = healthy family.

And when your fam sees you prioritizing your physical, mental and emotional health.... they're more likely to take care of theirs.

Look at you go, role model!

Anyways, that's my real answer but if time & money were no object this is how I would want most women to move forward with their rehab.

⭐️0-6 weeks: resting, breathwork, good nourishment and gentle movement (think walking, stretching etc). This will differ based on your birth method with c-sections and episiotomies requiring a deeper level of healing.

⭐️ 6-8 weeks: see a GROWCO practitioner, pelvic floor physio or trusted professional for a comprehsive check up. This is more than the standard check from your provider. We go DEEP. Checking things like your rib mobility, ab separation, hip range of motion, glute strength and more.

⭐️ 6-12 weeks: many mamas are ready to start their GROWCO ab rehab in this time frame.

⭐️ 12+ weeks: depending on how you progress (which is unique and individual to you.... and there is nothing wrong with you if it takes you longer than someone else) you'll be invited to stay in the L1 group for as long as you need, or graduate to L2!

⭐️ LIFELONG: women are cyclical creatures on a ~28 day cycle. We experience massive hormonal shifts through our lifetime! My goal is to set you up with a buffer of health and good muscle mass + full body strength to sail through perimenopause and post menopause.

GrowCo can be covered through your benefits 🤯

How? 💭

In order for GrowCo to be covered by insurance, you must have a Postpartum Initial Assessment by a healthcare provider. Myself and Dr. Sarah Ytsma at CK Performance Health can provide this for you.

The best part of having a Postpartum Initial Assessment, is that it gives you an opportunity to share your story with us. We know each body and birth story is unique and therefore rehab looks different for everyone.

We will look at:
⭐️Breathwork
⭐️Posture
⭐️Core and pelvic floor strengthening
⭐️Glute activation
& more

Getting a baseline assessment helps us guide you through proper rehab for your specific needs and allows you to make tangible goals.

Rocktape 💪🏼

Rocktape can be used in collaboration with other manual techniques to treat:

▫️Acute & Chronic Low Back Pain
▫️Acute & Chronic Neck Pain
▫️Shin splints
▫️Plantar Fasciitis

Did you just say that my muscle will contract without me even moving?! 🤯

I sure did 🙌🏼

Electroacupuncture is a very effective technique to communicate with the brain. When the needle is inserted, this creates an increase in blood flow, dilates the blood vessels and promotes nourishment to all the nerves that are irritated (influencing the nervous system!!).

When we hook the needles up to electrodes we are able to enhance our treatment by communicating with our brain, giving it the thumbs up 👍🏼 to start moving that muscle properly. Overall acupuncture:

▫️Decreases pain perception
▫️ Influences tissue healing and remodelling
▫️Decreases muscle tension
▫️Restores proper function
▫️And provides a natural sense of relaxation + endorphin release.

💭 Wondering if this treatment is right for you? Please do not hesitate to reach out to ask any questions that you have.

Wishing you all the most wonderful Wednesday! ✨

Chronic stiff and tight muscles, and unsure what to do about it? 🤔

Why not try, CUPPING THERAPY 🦸🏻‍♀️💪🏼

Cupping uses suction to pull an area of skin in, which facilitates decompression of muscles and connective tissue. This promotes blood flow to the area, enhancing circulation, promoting the body’s own healing process. Many people think of this technique as a reverse deep tissue massage, using negative pressure of the cup, instead of compressive forces during a massage treatment to relieve muscle tension 🙌🏼.

▫️Improves blood flow; providing muscles with oxygen and nutrients for healing.
▫️Promotes lymphatic drainage; removing wastes that accumulate in injured muscles.
▫️Lossens and relaxes soft tissue.
▫️Alleviates chronic muscle tension.

💭Wondering if cupping therapy could help you? Let’s chat.

These are the eyes I often get when I pull out these tools. “What on earth are you doing with those?" And that's when I say...

"Have no fear, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is here!! 🦸🏻"

✨These stainless steel tools have been proven to be very effective at decreasing pain, improving range of motion and overall function by reducing adhesions, tension and scarring of soft tissues that happen with injuries, overuse or surgeries.

Chiropractors and other health care providers, may use these tools as an adjunct to care in order to help you reach your goals! 🙌🏼

Curious if IASTM is right for you? Please feel free to direct message me, and we can determine together if IASTM will help you reach your goals!

Happy February Everyone! 💕

Have you ever been told that a pair of jeans is one size fits all? 👖No (well… maybe in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.. but in real life, no).
Why is that? It’s simple….

⭐️Differnet people are different.

That means there is not one recipe that will work for everyone. That is the same thing with your health. You are beautiful, brave, intelligent and no one is beautiful, brave and intelligent in the exact same ways you are. Your health is no different.

Your health is not a “one size fits all”. You are unique, your goals are different and you should ensure that your healthcare is the same way. Unique and different to fit YOU.

Stay EMPOWERED about your health, and always be an advocate for YOU.

✨ As always, I am here to help you if you feel like you need a primary healthcare provider to listen and help YOU project your voice about your health.

Take advantage of this new month to start your health journey today!

I am here to EMPOWER YOU 👊🏻. My job is to not only act as your health provider, but also your health advocate, guiding you to make optimal decisions that fit your current needs and personal goals through collaborative care.

✨ If you have any questions about what I can do for you please feel free to message me directly, or use the comment box below. What matters to you, matters to me.

🙋🏻‍♀️Hands up if you’re struggling with this transition? You know, the one between 2020 and 2021? The one where we are all supposed to be highly optimistic, motivated and productive humans in preparation of the year ahead?

Typically, I love this time of year. A chance to create new goals and start fresh. But this year, I have to admit it feels different to me. And that’s because this year is different.

So if you’re like me and you’re struggling with this transition, please know you are not alone. However you choose to start your 2021, choose to start it in a way that feels good to you.

It’s okay to ease into this new year. You don’t have to be super optimistic, productive and motivated this January. You just need to focus on what’s right for you.

✨Take one day at a time. Be kind to yourself. Don’t let the pressure of social media make you feel like you have to set your year intentions right now.

It’s okay if you’re not ready yet. Just continue to take one day at a time.

12/28/2020

We are still open! 🙌🏼

Regulated health professionals, including Chiropractors, are able to remain open during the Ontario lockdown.

We will continue our strict clinic protocols surrounding COVID-19 to ensure you, your family and our community remain healthy and safe, while you continue to get the care you need.

✨Please do not hesitate to message me if you have any questions or concerns.

Stay Healthy & Safe!

In the words of House Stark… “Winter is coming!” 🥶 And that means we need to talk about a very important vitamin… Can you guess which one?!

THE SUNSHINE VITAMIN - VITAMIN D ☀️

Vitamin D plays an important role in building and maintaining strong teeth and bones 🦷🦴. Research also suggests that this special vitamin plays an important role in supporting a healthy immune system 😷, protecting us against some types of cancers, heart disease, fractures, falls, autoimmune diseases, seasonal flu, type 2 diabetes and depression!

🌤During the warm summer months, our skin is able to produce Vitamin D when we are exposed to UVB light from the sun. But during the cold winter months, this doesn’t happen. 🤔So, how do we get enough Vitamin D during these cold Canadian winter months?

Answer: Supplements 💊 or fortified foods (milk, eggs 🥚, plant-based beverages 🌱, salmon 🐟).

🧐Has this made you consider supplementing with Vitamin D? Here are some things to know:

👉🏼According to Health Canada, the daily recommended allowance for Vitamin D for those between the ages of 7-90 is 600IU.
👉🏼Vitamin D3 is the ACTIVE form of Vitamin D, therefore look for supplements that contain this form.
👉🏼 A daily intake of 1,000IU of Vitamin D3 is safe, and is the commonly available dose.
👉🏼Remember, more doesn’t always mean better. Too much Vitamin D can have potential toxic effects, which can lead to kidney damage (range from 2,000-10,000IU).

⚠️Prior to supplementation, I recommend speaking to your healthcare provider. Depending on the circumstances, they may recommend that you get a blood test, prior to starting supplementation. Blood tests measure your current levels in order to determine a dose that’s best for you.

✨If you have questions or concerns about this incredible Sunshine Vitamin, please feel free to book an appointment online, call or message me directly.

☀️Keep Shining!!

12/01/2020

I apologize in advance for the long post... but I get asked this a lot👇🏼

“Dr. Leann, how many appointments will it take before I get better?” 🙋🏻‍♀️

👉🏼To be honest, it depends. Treatment dosage varies between patients and depends on a lot of different factors (diagnosis, chronicity of condition, patient history, patient goals, compliance to care).

Remember this, “Chiropractic is not designed to make you instantly feel better. It’s designed to make you instantly HEAL better.” 📝

Have you ever been prescribed medication? 💊If you have, you may notice that you never see the bottle read “take one time, and you will instantly be better”. Rather, it’s over a period of time you are required to take a certain dose, perhaps over days, weeks or even months. This is so the body has time to respond. If you aren’t compliant to taking your medications, you will probably notice you will not get much better.

This is the same with Chiropractic care. Chiropractic care does not make you instantly better, rather it helps you initiate the healing process. Adjustments, acupuncture, soft tissue therapy, exercises and modalities assist the body's natural healing process. Compliance to this type of care is critical to the healing process. Just like taking a dose of medication, if you do not comply with the treatment plan I present to you, it’s difficult to know whether or not the treatment I am providing you is really helping or not.

I AM HERE FOR YOU 👊🏼.To listen, to understand and empower you to make decisions regarding your health. But ultimately, the rate in which you heal is up to you. When you enter my office, we are a team.

🏈 Remember: You are the quarterback, you ultimately make the final decisions.
I am the offensive coordinator, providing you with all the plays to help you reach your goals.

So coming back to the question, “Dr. Leann, how many appointments will it take before I get better?” The answer really is simple… It’s up to YOU 🙌🏼.

Happy Tuesday! ✨
