It is Gatu here! Congratulations to mom Tina and dad John on their beautiful collaborations being shown at the fashion show in Port Hardy. Thank you Treasures for your continued support and everyone for such positive responses.

This design is done by Johnny Henderson. A Nakwaxda’xw artist who was born in Deserters and raised in Blunden Harbour.

Gilakas’la to Tiff and Anne for the nakwala phrase 'Naxwa'a̱m a̱wilagi'lakwi da ga̱nga̱nana̱m translates to Every Child Matters.

The design is Johnny's take on the Canadian flag. The copper in the middle with the partial flag and the dzunukwa represents Canada taking children and placing them in residential schools. The dancer on the left side represents our culture that has survived the potlatch ban an residential school era. The Raven with the sun rays behind it on the right side represents that our old people have come out still holding our history, language, and culture to share and bring to light to their families.

Johnny is a survivor of St. Michaels residential school in Alert Bay. Was taken from his parents boat at age of six put on a plane brought to St. Mikes where he spent several years.

These are his story’s told through his designs.
