About US:
Well known PEI Photographers, the MacArthur's have been photographing Islanders and visitors for over 75 years. The studio's name Heckbert is from our founder Edwin Heckbert and is our bloodline. Heckbert was Danny's father who started the business after returning home from Naval service in WW2. After establishing the business and starting a young family with Bernadette (Farmer) tragedy struck with Edwin Heckbert passing away at a young age with 4 boys under the age of 6. Bernie quickly realized the business was her lifeline and miraculously took over. She sent herself Winona technical in the USA and studied and learned the trade. Through sheer determination she took the reins and turned it into a thriving business that at one time was one of the most successful in Atlantic Canada. Later joined by her new husband Ron MacArthur, she trained Ron in the business and the pair continued to grow the bustling business. Danny, the oldest son of Heckbert joined the business at the age of 19. Training under his mother. Later, Edwin (jr.) second oldest, also joined the business and eventually Greg, third eldest son joined in. The three boys continued to expand the business branching out to Charlottetown and extending University contracts all over Atlantic Canada and establishing a custom framing branch.
As second and third generation PEI photographers Danny and Marc (Danny's son) have been working as a "Dynamic Duo" for over 30 years based out of Charlottetown. Their casual, easy going nature and style help make people feel at ease in front of the camera. With years of training, learning, and perfecting their craft they offer family keepsakes and heirlooms that will get passed down through generations. Investments in your family... portrait art for life.
Danny has been directly involved in photography since 1969, at the age of 19 he started training under his mother Bernadette (Bernie) and has reached the highest levels in the industry earning his Masters of Photography with PPOC and has countless national awards to his credit. Danny has experienced the change from B&W film (in the darkroom) to direct color and from film media to digital, and the domination of the iPhone which has changed the way people think about photographs. He has seen it all and to this day you will find him photographing graduates and providing families with portraits that last a lifetime. When not with a camera in hand, you can find the elder artist (Danny) next to, or on the water, kite sailing, windsurfing, sailing a catamaran or the frozen variety, snowboarding. Sun and vitamin D are his best friends and if he isn't playing in the sand and sun then its the snow.
Marc wears many hats, photographer, editor, tech, marketer, business manager, etc. Marc started studying under his fathers direction during high school and continued his evolution studying and taking courses all over north America over the years. After your session is over Marc gets to work behind the scenes working his magic. When he does get a day off you could find him with a hammer or measuring tape in hand or on his motorcycle with one of his sons, chilling close to the water with family on a paddleboard or on a snowboard.
Kristen is the face & voice of Heckbert's. (And what a face!) How does a business stay going for 75 years you ask? From sincerity and honest caring about the people you are doing business with. We don't have clients, we have friends and Kristen is a big part of that. Kristen has the drive and sincerity directly passed down from her Grandmother Bernie. When not serving you, she keeps us running, organized, and on point. Downtime for Kristen usually sees her on her boat with her family cruising the Islands waterways and beaches. (actually come to think of it there is not a lot of downtime for Kristen...she is always moving...fast!)

Remembering our founder/ father/ grandfather and all the other brave souls that serve and protect. Thank you.
It was our great privilege to capture this special moment for a wonderful family. We watched the kids grow up with my own and Cheryl was always involved, engaged and smiling.
