Meet Mike Williamson, Fire Chief at Cumberland Fire Rescue, BC.
There are 30 plus members of the Cumberland Fire Rescue, most of whom are volunteers. They service a much larger area than the Village proper. The Comox Valley Management Waste Centre, Bevan Road and the surrounding natural lands all fall within the jurisdiction of Cumberland Fire Rescue led by Chief Williamson.
“We’ve had a lot of residential growth over the past few years but what we lack is business, and this kind of business is good. Those commercial taxes are going to help support the requirements we have to serve our community." - Mike Williamson.

“The Bevan property is very exciting. It allows us to build the way we want and need to so our facility will accommodate the requirements of our industry and the growing demand for our product. The Bevan land is also perfectly located. It’s close to mountain biking trails, shops and villages, so I think it will be a great place to live and work.” - The first Bevan business owner, Merissa Myles - Tree Island Yogurt.

Growing local businesses need more space. Hakai Energy Solutions is now the largest solar energy company in BC. But it wasn’t always that way. When Jason Jackson started Hakai some 10+ years ago, the garage of his home was the warehouse and head office. As demand for renewable energies grew so did Hakai. So they leapfrogged from one temporary situation to another.

“Our Island Good brand is designed to raise awareness of local products and make it easy for people to find local products. More awareness leads to more demand, increased sales, and increased production which leads to more investment, larger facilities and more jobs. This ties directly into the increasing demand we see for industrial space on Vancouver Island and why industrial space such as the Bevan Industrial development site is so important.” George Hanson – VIEA, Economic Alliance, Past President.

"It has been more than 20 years since the lands at Bevan Road were established as industrial properties. Over the past decade the Village of Cumberland has worked to actualize the land as industrial and that plan has finally come to fruition. We’ve completed the Bevan concept plan as well as the Cumberland Economic Development strategy.” - Past Mayor, Leslie Baird, Village of Cumberland

"Our development will consist of two 16,000 square-foot industrial buildings. Drewry Electrical will be leasing a portion of one building. This new space will have a tremendous impact on our day-to-day operations allowing us to continue our steady growth. The remaining 26,000 ft.2 will fill a void in the Comox Valley for needed industrial leasable space. There are numerous businesses looking to expand their operations or move to the Comox Valley."
