ELECTION WATCH COMMITEE HOLDS POST-ELECTION REFLECTION SESSION.
The Election Watch Committee (EWC) recently held a post-election reflection session meant to engage domestic observers and Civil Society Organisation (CSO) groups that played a role in the last presidential election.
Through the reflection session, the EWC sought to engage with Gambian Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on the opportunities and lessons learnt and to come up with observations.
The event, which was held Metzy Residence hotel, brought together fifteen (15) domestic observers and CSOs.
The deliberations also sought practical recommendation for implementation directed at the various major stakeholders particularly the IEC, political parties and security, for a smoother electoral process ahead of the April 2022 parliamentary election.
Moreover, the Election Watch Committee and CSOs that were present all commended the IEC for the efficient conduct of the country’s presidential election, the political parties for abiding by the laws and utilising the prescribed legal process to pursue complaints likewise the security officials for their valued service. It was unanimously agreed that the IEC was able to deliver to the country’s expectations in terms of providing a transparent, free and fair Election and most importantly, a peaceful Election on December 4th.
Therefore ahead of 2022 parliamentary Election, the consortium of Gambian CSOs and the Election Watch committee proffer recommendations to the IEC, that they should break down polling stations to avoid long queues and prolonged voting, promote transparency, avoid abuse of privilege and provide gender segregation
Recommendations were made to the political parties to adequately train party agents on Election procedures and actively discourage tribal remarks and propagation of tribalism by respective party supporters and to the security officials to be trained on appropriate response to election related conflict before, during and after election and also continue to demonstrate neutrality and professionalism in dealing with Election matters.
EDUCATION MINISTER CALLS ON YOUTH TO ACQUIRE TVET SKILLS.
The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has called on Gambian youths to embrace and acquire more skills especially in the technical and vocational fields, arguing that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) should be encouraged, as they are skills the Gambian labour market currently has dire need.
Claudiana Cole was speaking last Friday in Bakau during the graduation of the first cohort of students at Ida’s Idea Fashion and Design Institute.
“At the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, we talk about the promotion of TVET, and when we talk about the promotion of TVET, that means skills and vocational training. In our policy and in the current education policy, we have it that we are going to be promoting TVET.”

Wahala for who wan fight this guy 😭😭🤩🤩🤩
This country remains the greatest on Earth, not because of the size but because every child can actually achieve as much as they can dream. Tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nations.
The past four years have been a failure of Gambian leadership, not a failure of the Gambian people. We believes that we can change course, and that we must. We look to the future with optimism and hope. This is not the first time our nation has faced adversity, and each time we have, our people have summoned the will and found the way to conquer our challenges. This moment is no different.
Working together, we can revive our country back and give every family the opportunity to succeed;
As I always said, the choices in this election aren’t between left and right, or NPP, UDP or APRC. The choices we face are about the past versus the future.
“YOUR VOTE, YOUR VOICE “
HOPE FOR GAMBIA
We stand at a moment of great challenge and great opportunity. All across Gambia, a chorus of voice is swelling in a demand for change. The Gambian people want the simple things that- for twenty six years-state house hasn't delivered: an economy that honors the efforts of those who work hard, a national security policy that rallies the world to meet our shared threats and makes Gambia safer, a politics that focuses on bringing people together across party lines to work for the common good. It's not too much to ask for. It is the change that the Gambian people deserve.
Yet today our schools that fail to provide opportunity to too many of our children; and a retirement system that may not be able to pay out what it promised. Too many Gambians worry about whether they'll be able to raise their kids in safety and security and give them a shot at a better life.
But these challenges were not inevitable. They are the result of flawed policies and failed leadership. As our world and economy have change the thinking in national assembly has not kept pace with the test of the twenty-first century. instead of investing in Gambia's ability to compete or confronting the new national security challenges, real commitment to a world- class education for our kids and preparing them to seize the jobs of tomorrow. we passed "NO CHILD Left behind", a law that has the right goals but left the money behind and failed to empower teachers, principals, and school boards.
Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh believes that we can change course, and that we must .He looks to the future with optimism and hope. This is not the first time our nation has faced adversity, and each time we have, our people have summoned the will and found the way to conquer our challenges. this moment is no different. working together, we can revive our economy and give every family the opportunity to succeed; we can lead, we can perfect our union by reinvigorating basic Gambian values; and we can make investments now that will put Gambia at the forefront of the new economy in west Africa.
The choice in this election aren't between left and right, or UDP,NPP OR PDOIS etc the choice we face are about the past versus the future.
To bring about real change, we need to start by creating a new kind of politics that reconnects the Gambian people with their government and offers not just a vote at the ballot box, but a voice in National Assembly that cannot be ignored. Gambians from every background and every corner of our country yearn for a politics that brings us together instead of tears us apart. what they want and what our nation needs isn't blind, uncritical agreement. Gambians don't agree on everything, nor should we. But behind all the labels and categories that define us Gambians are a decent, generous, and compassionate people, united by common challenges and common hopes. When that fundamental goodness and patriotism is called upon, our country responds . Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh believes that deeply. As a president, he will govern very differently than the current occupant of the Oval Office.
On his first day as president, Mr Jammeh will launch the most sweeping ethic reform in history to make the state house the people's house. Abdoulie Jammeh will:

What we need in the next President is the proven ability to bring people to the table and get things done. But not a story teller 500 meters etc, We need a President who understands the world we live in today and has a detailed plan to bring opportunity and security to all Gambians. We need a leader who will level with the Gambian people about what he will do if entrusted with the presidency and what we, as a nation, must do to get our country back on track. That is the kind of leader we need in December 2021…
Opinions could be divided but the fact of the matter is that unless there is system change the remnants of the colonial system of administration will still be with us no matter who governs?
But challenging as they are, it's not the magnitude of our problems that concerns me the most. it's the smallness of our politics. Gambia's faced big problems before. But today, our leaders in Gambia seem incapable of working together in a practical, common sense way. Politics has become so bitter and partisan, so gummed up by money and influence, that we can't tackle the big problems that demand solutions.
And that's what we have to change first. we have to change our politics, and come together around our common interests and concerns as Gambians.
This won't happen by itself. A change in our politics can only come from you; from people across our country who believe there's a better way and are willing to work for it. THANKS

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has said Africa needs the skills and capacity to manufacture its own Covid-19 vaccines.
At a conference of African leaders, he said the world was watching “vaccine apartheid”.
And it’s a fact that of the hundreds of millions of vaccines that have so far been given, less than 2% have been to Africans.
Up until now Africa has had a low number of Covid-19 infections compared to Europe or the United States.
This is because many African governments reacted quickly - they closed borders and imposed restrictions.
But the World Health Organization has warned another wave of Covid-19 infections could happen and that less developed heath care systems could find themselves struggling.
Prof Salim Abdul Karim, co-chair of the South African Covid-19 advisory committee. says, “because we are still seeing transmission, we are seeing new variants”.
He said when they discovered the new South African variant “they were very concerned” because this new variant “was able to cause infections in individuals who had already been infected” in the first wave.
So, with Covid-19 variants spreading how worried should Africa be about them?
