My final author event of the year is two days away! Curious what makes The Artisan Lodge different from the rest of my Christmas markets? Let's talk about it.
- The Artisan Lodge actually runs Thursday-Sunday all five weekends of the holiday season with different vendors every day!
- As someone behind the scenes, I can confirm that aesthetic is everything for this event. From color coordinated tables and required backdrops, expect loads of photo opportunities in this winter wonderland.
DETAILS:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
West Edmonton Mall
Friday December 22nd
10:00-8:30 pm
LOCATION:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
Across from the London Drugs, close to the mini-golf course/ food court and Santa Maria ship, in the old "The Brick" location.
WHY I WAS HESITANT TO WORK THIS EVENT:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
First, as I correctly guessed, I am incredibly close to burning out. Daily brain fog and general fatigue have been my new constant companions, but I knew what I was signing up for. You only get to market your debut as a new release for so long so I'm sure this will pay off.
Second, I was a little worried that a mall appearance would be redundant when my books are stocked at the Indigo already. Now that I know they only have two copies left and refuse to restock until January, I'm very glad I'm going.
Third, the odds of me making enough sales to pay for my table at this event is honestly unlikely, though possible. While every other event I've worked has cost fifty to eighty dollars a day to attend, this one costs two hundred and fifty... Yep, you read that right. I will have to sell 42 books to break even. Possible? Sure, maybe. It depends a lot on how much foot traffic this corner gets.
REASONS TO STOP BY AND SAY HI:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
These events can be exhausting but nothing cheers me up with a little burst of dopamine quite like seeing a familiar face. While it's only a two minute visit for you, it can change my overall demeanor for a whole hour. So, come say hi, give me a hug, and let's ring in this year with some holiday cheer β¨
Celebrating a huge milestone π Subscribers, expect a newsletter to come out on the 23rd to ring in six months and five hundred sales with NEW character art!
Thank you so much to everyone who has been buying copies, recommending Cupid's Compass to friends, and leaving reviews. I wouldn't be here without you! π
P.s. Check out my "500" post on Insta to see a snapshot of my revenue/costs six months in :)
Does anyone else feel like December is disappearing before their eyes? I mean, it's Thursday. That leaves, what, ten days until Christmas Eve? How? When did that happen? If you're like me and still have a bunch of gift shopping to do, consider coming by! It sounds like this event has a ton of vendors and I'm curious how it will compare to the first two I've done.
Perks to stopping by the Leduc Christmas Blitz:
βοΈ You will get to see the new character art before its formal reveal.
βοΈ You would bring me a touch of sanity and a break from being flooded by strangers and repeating the same book pitch one hundred thousand times for hours on end.
βοΈ You might find something perfect created by a small business and/or local vendor!
QUESTION OF THE DAY:
Using percentages, how much of your holiday shopping have you finished?
My Answer: lol, maybe 30%

β¨ GEARS Sheltered Paws Holiday Night Market β¨
GEARS stands for the Greater Edmonton Animal Rescue Society. If you've been around my Instagram, you see photos of my pup all the time and know my undeniable love for animals. When I got the chance to work at this market, I hopped on it instantly. So, what are the details and what can you expect?

Amazing first day today at the Stony Plain "Santa's Hollyday Blitz" event β¨ I met people with matching tattoos just like my design, had my darling friend stop by to help out, and sold more than enough books to cover the cost of my table! Overall a great success π

Santa's Hollyday Blitz
π C o v e r R e v e a l D a y π Guys!!! Can you believe how lovely this cover turned out? I'm so honored to have my short story published along with so many other amazing authors.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
In the form of poetry and journal entries, to stories and letters⦠twenty authors from across the globe share their versions of love. Together.
Official Synopsis (courtesy of )
They say love is tender. They say love is true. But what we know is that love can be sweet, and sometimes bitter too. Sweet Bitter Love is a heartfelt, heartwarming, and heartbreaking anthology composed by twenty authors from across the globe. From journal entries to stories and letters, Sweet Bitter Love explores the intricacies and complexities of connections, relationships, and, most of all, love, from all angles. Sometimes all you need is a cheeky cat, a trip abroad, an angry letter, a soothing presence, a personal understanding, a fit of passion, or a chance to reconnect the fragments of your broken heart. And sometimes all you need to do to find it is to turn the page. If you enjoy heart-wrenching stories, raw passion, and self-love, then Sweet Bitter Love is for you.
All proceeds from this anthology will be going to Women Building Futures, a non profit organization based out of Edmonton, Alberta. For the last 25+ years, they have worked hard to foster economic security for women facing barriers to entry in a workforce where they are traditionally underrepresented. They offer programs and support services to help unemployed and underemployed women explore and connect to careers that pay above a living wage, and so much more!
β¨E-book available for pre-order at this time! Paperbacks & Hardcovers available February 14th, 2024β¨
P.S. if you missed it, my post on Instagram yesterday reveals more about my short story specifically! But I will share more about that here on Facebook soon π₯°

Join me for the 12th Annual Shopping Event:
βοΈSanta's Hollyday BlitzβοΈ
Location: Stony Plain Heritage Pavilion
Saturday Nov 25th 10:00-4:00
Sunday Nov 26th 11:00-4:00
I'm feeling both so excited for this event and a dash unprepared hahaha. I officially ordered business cards which will arrive on time (woohoo!) and I have more than enough stock, however it's the decor piece I'm getting hung up on. I want to add Christmas vibes to my table, however I'm not sure I'm ready to sort through my twelve plus bins to figure out what to bring.
I HAVE TWO ESSENTIAL PLANS:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
1. Bring my white, four foot Christmas tree and decorate it with blue and silver ornaments. (Time consuming to prep, but aesthetically would add a nice height variety without taking over the table)
2. I have a blue and silver ornament garland I could use. (Absolute minimal effort on my part. Would look great without possibly blocking my face, but will take up a lot more table space.)
Either way, I'm sure my booth will look beautiful and I'll leave a trail of glitter everywhere I go. (Typical Ashley things)
MY GOAL:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
I need to sell twenty copies (that's ten books a day) to break even with the cost of the table. Based on my Chapters events where I've sold 13+ books consistently within similar hours, the odds seem fairly good! Though I do recognize I won't be exclusively exposed to book shoppers, maybe the gift giving season will lean in my favor? We shall see π
REASONS TO COME SEE ME AT THIS EVENT:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
- Books make great Christmas gifts
- Meet other curated, local vendors
- Contribute to the donation drive
- Sleigh rides and Santa photos
Join me and twenty-six local authors at the Spruce Grove Public Library today between 11:00-3:00 β¨ Author panels will be 2:00-3:00 and there will be cotton candy by Flossy Sugar π¬
I'm honestly so excited for this event. I can't wait to see the variety of book genres created by locals, to make some new connections and friends, and to finally make some sales without the big store cuts π€£ and the fact my writing bestie Author Cathrine Swift will also be there makes for a perfect Saturday in my books π
I'll be selling paperbacks for $20 and hardcovers for $30, accepting cash, card, and e-transfer. Will I see you there?
LOCALS: PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD! π
Ashley Weiss is at IndigoSpirit Spruce Grove today from 11-3!! Come say hi and grab a signed copy of Ashleyβs new novel, Cupidβs Compass!

After taking October off I'm feeling refreshed and ready to go for this weekend of back-to-back author events in my hometown: Spruce Grove!
1. Catch me at Indigospirit Spruce Grove Friday Nov 3rd signing paperbacks and bonding with bookworms over our favorite reads. And, as my last Indigo event of 2023, I will be holding a draw for a $25 Chapters gift card for anyone who stops by! β¨
2. The following day, Saturday Nov 4th, I'll be a couple roads over at the Spruce Grove Public Library for their local author fair! I will have both paperbacks and hardcovers at this event, and will be doing a reading between 2:00-3:00. If you're curious to meet other local writers, I highly recommend dropping by this free event. There will be cotton candy by Flossy Sugar from 11:00-3:00! π¬

β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
Did you know Cupid's Compass can be found at multiple public libraries including Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and Edmonton? Even the Stony Plain Memorial high school now stocks it!
I am endlessly grateful to everyone who has requested my book to be stocked at their school or local library. It fills my heart to know Cupid's Compass is out there in the world for anyone to read π
I can't wait to meet a bunch of other local authors here next weekend! β¨My reading is at 2:40 p.m.β¨
Come by the library and visit all your favorite local authors. Meet and greet with over 20 local authors from around the area!

Special Event from 1-2pm in the Program Room

*Due to the scheduled event, library services may be disrupted, and certain library services may be temporarily unavailable (e.g. access to a quiet study space or reading space, access to gaming consoles, and room rental bookings). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.
Huzzah! My events for the rest of the year are set π Want to help this overly ambitious mortal out? I am looking for volunteers for the holiday markets, especially the WEM one, who could "man my table" and relieve me for a bathroom break/snack/quick shop around.
β¨ You need to have read Cupid's Compass
β¨ Arrive dressed in a festive/professional way
β¨ Be trustworthy to handle payments
I'm not looking for experts at pitching my book or for volunteers to be pushing sales. I really just need someone to make sure things don't get stolen, but if you make a sale or two while I'm away even better ahaha. For the short events I'd only need half an hour to reset mid-shift. For the WEM event I'd like an hour break around lunch then again around dinner. If you're interested in visiting any of these markets and up for covering for me, please direct message me or comment below!

AUTHOR'S NOTE:
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
The reality is, I have yet to find one single book that is the perfect comparison to Cupid's Compass. Many have linked soulmates but tend to be heavier on the romance element. Others share the mythology foundation but are more action-packed and violent. Cupid's Compass is its own blend of drama and tension, and is almost genre-defying. Yes, it has sub-plot romances and quest vibes, but it's really just general fiction. In fact, I would argue it's best described as speculative fiction and magical realism, but most people don't know what that means haha.

My next book signing is only days away! Please note, in the original book signing tour schedule I had the hours for this location incorrect. Though I will be there at the originally advertised 2:00-4:00 times, I am actually there from 12:00-4:00! Oh, and my draw to win a $25 Indigo Gift Card is ongoing so be sure to stop by and enter your name for the prize π
Today is the last day to enter my August giveaway! Watch this video for all the details and best of luck to everyone who enters π
Celebrating a huge milestone π Cupid's Compass has now sold over 250 copies!
I had such a good time at Indigo South Common over the weekend, ultimately selling out of the last paperbacks I owned π All Edmonton Indigo stores will be fully restocked by the end of this week, I'm just waiting on a new shipment. (I keep reminding myself running out of books is a great problem to have haha)
DID YOU KNOW?
β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’β’
The average self-published novel will sell 250 copies in its lifetime. Cupid's Compass crushed that marker in less than three months!!
To anyone currently reading Cupid's Compass, you have six days to finish and leave reviews on all four platforms (with screenshot proof) to enter and win these amazing prizes!
π Details about the prizes:
1. Read chapter one of book two. Everyone is itching to know what happens next in the soulmate seekers series, and so it only makes sense that the winner should get to see the opening of book two before anyone else!
2. Read the deleted scene from Cupid's Compass. This chapter follows the fire and features our beloved redheaded siblings. It is raw, real, and was tough to cut from the book. While I'm considering inserting it as a flashback in book two or three, I haven't yet decided. But you could read it now if you win π
3. Character art preview prior to public release! While I was keeping it under wraps, I've decided my reviewers should know what they're competing for. π₯ Drumroll please! π₯ The artist I hired is .arts π Feel free to check out her Instagram profile to get an idea of the art style that will be done for Cupid's Compass.
4. Ask me ANY question. It can be about book one. It can be the name of book three. It can be about a specific character. The only contingency is that if you ask about a spoiler, you are sworn to secrecy once you get the answer.
As a reminder, these are the included tour review platforms:
π Amazon
π Indigo Chapters
π Barnes & Noble
π Goodreads
While I considered doing Google play or Kobo for the last week, their platforms are more complex. I figured most people have already left reviews on Goodreads, so this should be an easy extra entry!
β¨ Are you excited yet?! β¨ I can't wait to do this draw at the end of the month! Please help this post get better views by dropping a comment or sharing it in your story. I'd love to hear about which prize you're most excited for π
What an amazing day π I completely sold out of all my paperbacks! Thank you to everyone who stopped by, the amazing staff, and my Insta community for all the suggestions how to better engage with customers. The giftcard raffle and recommended reads as conversation starters absolutely worked. Today was a blast and I am now impatiently waiting for more books so I can restock Southgate IndigoSpirit again.
Send prayers the new order will arrive before my next book signing on Sunday the 27th at Chapters in South Common π
Catch me in Edmonton at Southgate IndigoSpirit today between 12:00-3:00! I'll be handing out stickers and hosting a raffle for a $25 Chapters giftcard π Come say hi!
Check out this lineup π± I'm thrilled to kick-off my Edmonton and area tour in three days with Southgate Indigospirit. Did you hear they already sold out of copies and I had to restock them? The staff at this store are amazing and I can't wait for this Saturday π
Come by, say hi, and enter my raffle for the chance to β¨WIN an Indigo/Chapters giftcardβ¨ I'll be bringing the raffle box to every Chapters event over this tour, so be sure to pencil in whichever ones you can make.
P.S. Hoping to pull a Taylor Swift move and add more dates yet... Stay tuned!

β¨ It's week two of my August Review Tour! β¨
"Wow, you're really pushing for this review tour, hey?" You bet I am. And I'm not done with the growing prize yet π but you'll have to stay tuned to find out what else the winner gets.
β’
β’
"Ashley, why are you pushing so hard for people to leave reviews? Isn't buying the book enough support?" Yessss of course but also no ahaha. Buying the book is amazing π It's literally the bread to my butter, but if I ever hope for my book to jump out of my immediate circle to new readers, reviews are critical.
β’
β’
"I read the book back in June when it was released and I'm not sure what to put in a review..." That's great! What impressions lasted? Are you still excited to read book two? Literally even a star review would help your girl out. It'll only take two minutes of your day and bring me endless gratitude!
β’
β’
"Indigo Chapters? Huh, can I leave a review there if I bought my book from somewhere else?" YUP! While Kobo is more exclusive (you need a Kobo account to leave a review), Indigo is open to any reviewers! Also, did you know I don't have a single review on this platform yet? Here's to praying I'll have at least three by the end of the day hahaha.
β’
β’
"I was planning on waiting until the end of the month when all four platforms and the grand prize was revealed. Is that okay?" Um, sure... I guess so. But don't you dare forget!
β’
β’
"Listen Ashley, I love you and it's so cool you wrote a book. I'm not going to read it before the end of the month though. How else can I support you?" Drop a comment below sending me your love! Just a quick heart or smile emoji will help circulate this post to peeps who have read and finished already :)

π Curious to read the first chapter of book two in The Soulmate Seekers series before ANYONE else? Yep, you read that right. Welcome to the Review Tour Giveaway! My goal for the month of August is to encourage everyone who has finished Cupid's Compass to share their review, so I thought, "why not make it a game with the most coveted prize ever?"
β’
β’
π» Each week I will share a different website to share a review on, so you will have a total of four opportunities to enter. All you need to do is post your review (or find your previously shared review), screenshot it, and send it my way. It's that easy! You can use the same review on all four platforms. And yes, you can share a review somewhere different from where you purchased the book.
β’
β’
π Have you started Cupid's Compass but not finished yet? If you finish reading before the deadline of August 31st you could share it on all four platforms, send me all the proof, and still be entered up to four times.
β’
β’
π€ Not sure what to say in a review? Even just a star rating counts, but I encourage you to look briefly at what other reviews are saying and use that as inspiration. It doesn't have to be long, it could literally be one line.
"I loved this book!"
"I will definitely be reading the next book in the series"
"Great for readers who love mythology and romance"
"Multiple povs that interconnect, comparable to Valentine's Day or Love, Actually"
Remember the key to reviews is to always be honest about your experience and to share thoughts that will help other readers decide if they might like the book.
β’
β’
π§πβ¨ The first platform I'm looking for reviews on, which is probably no surprise, is AMAZON β¨ππ§

I wish I could grab eight-year-old me and crush her in a celebratory hug π She swore she'd write a book some day and even though that dream sat on the back-burner for twenty some years, we actually did it! My heart is buzzing with pride and my eyes are burning with unshed tears as I drink my morning coffee. Though I already want to strangle Amazon, this morning my dad reminded me that today's energy should be focused on the happy things. We have all week to deal with technical errors like vanishing hardcovers. SO. WE. ARE. CELEBRATING!

Never tuned in for a live video before? It's pretty simple. When I jump on, it will most likely pop up on your feed but you can also find the video on my profile. If you watch it while I'm online, you'll be able to drop comments I'll be able to live react to. At the end of the hour(ish) the video will then save as one big post. Anyone who missed it or parts of it can then scroll through and watch!
