Spent the morning at the park stretching the body, now downstairs to the workshop to flex the creative muscles. Seems like a good day to dive into a colourful new project!

Here’s a little peek at what’s in the works. Currently custom dying newspaper, paper towel and tissue paper into bright and funky rainbow colours. 🌈 Stay tuned to see what these turn into… 👀🎨

On another note, I am seriously going to have to do a post one of these days about my love of paper towel as a texture medium for mixed media. Pretty sure I’ve used it in every piece I’ve done so far and soooo happy with the results!

I’ve been flexing my creative muscles with some new challenges recently, and I’ve found a real love for mixed media. Like any good crafter, I have a plethora of random odds and ends I’ve stashed for “someday projects,” so I figure now is as good a time as any to start actually using some these things. (Finally, a use for all those old Ardene earrings from my youth! 😂)

I conceptualized doing a mixed media peacock but wasn’t completely sure how to pull it off, fearing it quite an ambitious project. The background was a bit of an experiment, of which half eventually got covered anyway, but I have to say overall I am thrilled with how she turned out. Something about the multidimensional layers full of texture just speaks to me.

Needless to say, I’ll definitely be exploring more mixed media!

Here are the first two edited from today’s shoot. I love the patterns the ice makes on the glass, it almost looks like tiny little feathers. 🪶

Just wrapped an impromptu afternoon frosty photoshoot with my favourite photography mentor, my Grandad. I’m very excited to be able to spend time experimenting with our passion projects together. 📸

I had planned to spend time in the studio this evening, but this looked like a far cozier option. 🐾

It’s a perfect Sunday for a drive. I just love rural Alberta for its abundance of abandoned buildings. This looks like it might have been an old school once upon a time. 🏚📸

Happy Saturday morning! Today I’m trying out a different colour combination for some Valentine’s Day cards. I am a huge fan of the grungy texture achieved with pigment powders.

Now I have to start learning to wear my gloves so my hands don’t also get stained this beautiful colour.. 🤦🏼‍♀️😅

Anyone who knows me knows what a huge fan I am of the master of horror. Chuck has been after me to make him some Stephen King themed bookmarks, so tonight I treated him to one of my favourites. 🎈I can’t wait to slip this between the pages.

Spending a little time in the studio today revisiting my art journal. Mixed media can be so therapeutic and this page, as with every aspect of myself, is a work in progress. 🎨

We just made our first wreath! 🎄 I’ve been collecting knickknacks for a few years and finally found the time to sit down and assemble them all together. Chuck made the cute little snowflakes with jingle bells. We even watched a Christmas movie while assembling. (Last Christmas on Netflix, would definitely recommend!) Feeling the Christmas spirit. 🎄

It’s shaping up for a beautiful day 2 at the Alberta Aviation Museum for the Jolly and Bright market. We’ll be here from 11am - 4pm today, and Santa is on site ready to take photos with your fur babies. Stop in and check us out!

The custom co****le boards are prepped and ready for some wedding game action this weekend. Francis even picked out his team!

Dad and Chuck made the boards, I designed the artwork, everyone had a hand in applying the decals (and of course, the highest quality printing courtesy of Priority Printing) so this was a true family effort. Looking forward to incorporating them into our regular game nights too! 💜🧡
