Frostad Farms
Producing registered Finn and Clun Forrest sheep, and replacement stock with an emphasis on excellent
December Christmas photos looking a little strange for our part of the world this year. The sheep are fat and wooly ready for winter and feeders full of hay, but they spend a lot of their day out grazing still. Lambs born in October are growing well with no harsh weather to contend with 🐑 Our new LGD Baylee is fitting in fabulously and we love her already 🐶💕 It took a few days for the sheep to not be alarmed with a new dog in the flock, but her quiet demeanour has won them over, and she sleeps in the hay as they eat now.
I was reminded that I have not shared any pictures of the farm lately. Life gets so busy I forget what’s normal everyday business for me might be new, exciting and interesting for others. I’ll try to get better at posting more regularly! ☺️💕🐑
We will have lamb meat available to purchase this weekend at Crafters to the Rafters in Stony Plain. Stock up with our Whole Lamb Box to enjoy those delicious cuts of meat all winter long, or pick up a specific cut for a special meal. The first 4 Whole Lamb Boxes sold this weekend will receive a free gift with purchase! Know where your food comes from, buy local and ethically raised meat from Alberta farms 🐑
If you’re new to our page welcome! My name is Sarah Frostad and along with my husband, we raise sheep on our small farm in Alberta. The focus on our farm is whole animal usage, so with that in mind we breed a variety a wool breed sheep. We want our ewe flock to be maternal and prolific mothers to give us a great lamb crop each year, but also to grow us wool that fits into specific markets for resale. ALL our wool goes to be processed -either by hand spinners or to Custom Woolen Mills ltd. to be made into wool products -not into the landfill like many farms do, and our lamb crops go to feed families like yours. We are partnered with Brine Dyeworks and Rose Hill Yarns to sell our yarn. Check them out for both raw as well as beautifully dyed skeins of our Frostad Farms yarn. Organ meat is dehydrated for dog treats and hides are tanned and sold in collaboration with Wildfibre Tannery. Delicious and nutritious, lamb meat is lean and nutrient dense, and when grown locally you will be pleasantly surprised at how mild and tender it is compared to the imported meat most have tried. All of our lamb is gov. inspected, cut and wrapped at Barrhead custom meats and available directly from the the farm and in the Backwoods Buffalo Ranch farm store. When it comes to to putting food on the table, the fuel for your body, know where your food comes from. Ask questions…how and where were the animals kept? How and what were they fed? Get to know the people that raise the animals, and buy directly from them ❤️🐑☺️
Don’t forget to treat your pets for Christmas (and everyday around here 🤣) with some delicious niblets from our farm. These treats are dehydrated lamb organ meat-and just that no additives! The dogs and cats that have been testing these are loving them and asking for more so get a bag or 2 for your pets to try this weekend Crafters to the Rafters Nov 4 & 5 in Stony Plain at the Pavillion
Have you ever heard of a vegetarian sheepskin or living rug? Come see us at Crafters to the Rafters to get your hands on one of these we even have order forms for custom sizes and colors! These works of art are skillfully created by placing raw fleece locks onto a felted wool backing using wool from different breeds of sheep in Alberta to bring diversity of colors and textures. The result is a beautiful sheepskin that can be made into any shape or size, and the bonus is we can make it from the same ewe year after year. Liven up your decor and have an amazing conversation piece on your chair or table.
We are busy stocking up on our most popular item for Crafters to the Rafters… dryer balls! These handmade 100% wool dryer balls are a non toxic alternative to dryer as they’re biodegradable & renewable. By aiding in decreased drying time & static cling they also help to conserve energy. We use the fleeces from our ewe flock and have them processed into roving right here in Alberta at Custom Woolen Mills ltd.
Crafters to the Rafters is next weekend, and we will have a variety of unique items that are perfect for those hard to buy for people on your Christmas list. Our 100% wool pillows are made from fleeces of our Clun Forrest ewe flock, and processed into batts by Custom Woolen Mills ltd. here in Alberta. Wool pillows are biodegradable, renewable, washable and customizable.
This little ewelamb (PB Finn) is doing great as a first time momma, bred out of season and the first one to lamb - now we have a little wait until there’s more to join her. Although we bred all our Finn ewes this spring for our fall lambing, not everyone caught. With the extreme high temperatures coupled with having to evacuate due to fires, we had a much lower than normal conception rate this year. There will still be lambs, just not be as many, and the open ewes will be bred this fall with the rest of the flock to lamb in 2024 🐑
Thank you for coming out to take great pictures of the animals ❤️

How amazing are sheep and nature in creating this most beautiful fibre 🐏 😍
Wool grows on sheep, it is a keratin protein fibre, similar to human hair and is 100% natural, biodegradable and not man-made. As long as there is grass to graze on, water to drink, air and sunshine, sheep will produce a new fleece every year, making wool a renewable fibre source.

These girls put themselves to bed every night, and love to have bedtime snacks brought to them -alfalfa hay is preferred lol. I indulge them since over 1/2 of these are my pregnant Finn ewes due in October 🐑🐑 Still over 2 months to go, they’re starting to waddle and enjoy more naps in the shade throughout the day. The weaned 1st lambers as well as 2023 weaned ewelambs learn the routine from the old girls, and I find they take on the quiet, friendly demeanour of my sweet Finn ewes. Having a quiet friendly flock makes for less stress on sheep and shepherdess whether we’re moving pastures, medicating or lambing. My sidekick Sue🩵 is learning our farms slower pace to moving animals, and is starting to enjoy farm dog life and chores as opposed to the fast work he did before
What a beautiful summer night to sit and watch my happy sheepies with my sidekick Sue 💗
I’m having so much fun learning with this boy! Sue is so smart and willing even with all my mistakes 💗 Thank you so much Kier Scott Herding East Stock Dogs for the opportunity to have such a cool dog and Chinook Dog Centre for the great training as I learn to catch up to Sue
