I am following longevity research as I expect in 10 years we will have more options than just a focus on nutrition and lifestyle (which is very important) if you want to live a long and healthy life.
👉Metformin a medication used for Diabetes and PCOS as well as antipsychotic induced weight gain seems to have effects on inflammation at a molecular level.
👉Perhaps being on metformin is a good thing with added benefit ?? work hard to better control.your condition whatever it may be though as we know that uncontrolled diabetes whether you are on metformin or not will reduce your lifespan
How do you know you have insulin resistance or prediabetes?
👉Obvious signs are high blood pressure and elevated fasting blood sugar levels
👉Constant hunger or carbohydrate cravings (i.e you are a sugar burner and have not trained your body to tap into fat stores)
👉A higher than normal hemoglobin A1C (DM me if you don't know what this is)
👉Being overweight and having a large weight circumference (you can google those numbers or DM me.. they are different for men and women)
👉Having a hard time loosing weight despite your efforts
👉If your doctor has diagnosed you with prediabetes or diabetes based on your blood work
Know that you can reverse insulin resistance..that having insulin resistance over years leads to more than just Diabetes and can cause debilitating health consequences
Know that if you are on a weight loss journey and have insulin resistance it will be almost impossible to loose that weight unless you fix the root problem of your insulin
👉Insulin is our fat storing hormone if it is elevated don't expect weight loss. Hours on in at the gym will not help!!
👍👍The solution ? Find out first if you have a problem and do a self assessment or ask your doctor to check both your fasting blood sugar levels and your three month blood sugar levels average ..your hemoglobin A1C

My first early morning class at a new gym..this particular workout was a HIIT workout. 30 seconds full on..10 seconds off with a short water break at half point. While this workout was 45 minutes ..HIIT high intensity interval training is one of the best ways to MAXIMIZE results in a SHORTER time frame period. (With two kids I am all about efficiency) . Loved it ..loved the variety...amaaaazing music..and great trainers..
One day I will get my squat right consistently. ,🥺🙂🙂🙂

Most people have heard of insulin resistance linked to high blood sugar levels, prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. I wanted to highlight that the detrement of CHRONIC insulin resistance go beyond that ..
Conditions such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Hypertention (high blood pressure) and obesity or a resistance to loosing weight have been linked ....and there is a scientific reason as to why which I will go into in a separate post.
Insulin resistance takes years to developed but it starts before we see an elevated blood sugar reading or elevated hemoglobin A1C...
Take time to reflect on your health
Nine our of 10 people in the United States statistically have insulin resistance..

The problem is that 90 percent of people have no idea they have it ...and beyond that we don't know how to reverse it.
The good news is that if you have signs that tell you you might be insulin resistant you can take action to reverse it and prevent other chronic diseases ..

Such vibrant colors this time of year...imagine yourself sitting on that bench (that is a total stranger in this picture) how long do you think you could sit there without picking up your phone? My guess will be that the majority of people will.have that itch to do something else or pick up their phone within five to 10 minutes. I challenge you to try resisting that itch....

Insulin is a hormone that is secreted by our pancreas. It does all kinds of things in the body and every cell in the body has insulin receptors.
From the standpoint of blood sugar levels which is what is talked about the most ....when the pancreas senses elevated blood sugar levels it will release insulin and it's job is to bring that sugar into the cells.
Essentially insulin tells every cell in the body what to do with energy..what it wants is to store energy!!
If you are struggling to loose weight and your insulin levels stay elevated because you are insulin resistant it will be IMPOSSIBLE for you to shed that weight! Remember what I stated earlier insulin wants to store energy...
👌So what are the signs that tell you that you may have insulin resistance?
The road to becoming insulin resistant happens over years .....
❎evidence in your blood work (high hemoglobin A1C; High fasting blood sugar; HOMA-IR score more than 1.9)
❎an inability to shed weight off no matter your efforts
❎constant cravings for carbohydrates and sweets
❎extra weight around your abdomen (higher weight circumference)
❎in women,acne and hair thinning
❎feeling tired and bloated
❎feeling thirsty all the time
❎frequent urination
There are various lab tests that your doctor can order to confirm this but you can take a reflective moment to consider the above if you don't have that test result. Remember how prevalent this condition is as I stated earlier..
Of course if you have been diagnosed with prediabetes or diabetes then you most definately are insulin resistant.
So is it possible to reverse insulin resistance? YES and that should be your number one goal for optimal health? YES and most definitely if you are trying to loose weight for health reasons.

Science update ..
Sulforaphane is a compound within the isothiocyanate group of organosulfur compounds. It can be found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cabbages.
What does this compound do for us ?
👍reduces inflammation
👍eliminates toxic build up
👍may slow down tumour growth
👍and in a more concentrated form helps modulate glucose (blood sugar) control.
Study after study demonstrates this..
By example one study demonstrated lower glucose (blood sugar) production by liver cells in a Petri dish
and altered liver gene expression away from a diseased state in diabetic rats (this is in animals I know!!) . The same researchers also gave 97 patients with type 2 diabetes a concentrated broccoli sprout extract for three months. This lowered their fasting glucose (blood sugar level) if the patient happen to have dysregulated diabetes (i.e not controlled).A human study!!
And there are many more .
Our moms were right to advise us to eat our brocolli ..
My take:
👍eat some kind cruciferous vegetable on a daily basis
• 👍if this is new to you the go low and slow to give your body time to adjust (gas is not pleasant for many ☺️but your gut bacteria will thank you for it)
On a personal level it's significantly helped reduce my inflammation related to an autoimmune condition. My anecdotal take...

What if I told you that new research indicates that insulin resistance is at the heart of Alzheimer's ?
That not only is insulin resistance a case for having Diabetes ..that it trickles into so many other conditions that are COMPLETELY prevented !!
My take on this new research....if I had insulin resistance I would take action today..
I would not wait until brain fog hits hard
We have medications for Dementia and Alzheimer's but they do nothing to reverse the disease and cause the most modest of effects.
you have the ability to have more of an effect than these medications ever could.
