Sometimes harsh direct sunlight can be used artistically! The shadow framing the face is from the window and where the sun is in the sky🪟
What do you think, direct sunlight or diffused shade?

🌳🌱forest thoughts🌳🌱
— As you walk through the woods, imagine the hidden mycelium network beneath your feet, and consider how it mirrors the intricate web of connections in your own life. Each step you take is supported by this unseen network, just as your journey through life is bolstered by the relationships and support systems you cultivate. —
This was the first time in a while where we finished the shoot in under an hour and I had all the shots I was thinking of capturing.
I was going for moody forest pics and helped with that vision! Thanks for a great shoot.

🌈 Pride month is over but we’re here and q***r all year round 🌈
being creative with the flag and also making sure Jabba the pug gets some time to shine ✨
The headliner last weekend was at fest. Kyle Brownrigg’s comedy show was an absolute blast! From start to finish, his sharp wit and hilarious stories had me laughing. His timing and delivery were spot-on.
I tried to capture side action shots of his skit so I didn’t ruin any of the punchlines by cutting in-front of the stage LOL 😂 also it was so HOT in the theatre, I’m impressed by all the folks that got up there with the lights beaming down on a humid summer evening.
When I could slip away from the photo booth I got to see perform a comedy skit! If you ever come across this comedian, get a ticket because he’s got some great jokes. His story telling method has you hanging on each word wondering what he’s got next.
Thanks for facilitating an awesome night and allowing me to capture the laughter and good vibes. Doing event photography for local organizations and businesses is 🫶🏻

The lights, the wings, the energy, it’s got a celestial vibe, wouldn’t you say? 🪽 ✨
These styled shoots are always a good time, being able to get creative together and jam on what poses or colours you want to put the lights on. I’d love to work at studio ethereal again, anyone got a creative concept they want to collaborate on?

4 generations, things to be passed down and remembered ✨🌻💛
I absolutely loved this concept that Riley proposed we do. So many cumulative memories and knowledge captured in one photo. Can’t wait for Evelyn to hear more when see grows up!

🎙️ client review 🎙️
“Working with Mo was a breeze! Despite my usual nerves about being in front of the camera, Mo created such a comfortable and confident atmosphere throughout the photoshoot. They were incredibly attentive, crafting a studio setup that perfectly matched my personality and the vibe I was aiming for. Mo’s flexibility in adjusting the setup until it was just right was much appreciated.
What stood out was Mo’s preparation and thoughtfulness, especially in bringing lighting equipment that complemented my complexion as a person of color. This level of consideration truly made a difference.
The photo editing and turnaround time were spot on for the number of photos I ordered. As this was my first professional photoshoot, I couldn’t have imagined doing it with anyone else. Receiving the photos back made me see myself in a new, better, and healthier light. Mo has genuinely boosted my confidence. Highly recommended!”
Thanks for the kind review! Looking forward to collaborating in the future :)

Client review from Jasmine! Thanks again for your support and lovely afternoon in the park.

Photoshoots in park 🌳 🌺
The blurred background is from the type of lens I was using. With portraits it gives a really artisty look. I was capturing the images of Jasmine using a sigma art lens at a 1.4f. We had a bouquet of flowers from martketbox that we used as a prop to make this ‘through the flowers’ effect. And off screen on the right hand side helping me hold the flowers in place 🙏🏻.
Thanks to these lovely folks for creatively collaborating and having a fun afternoon at the park with me.

Client testimonial 🗣️
‘I’ve been modeling for just about 20 years professionally. I’ve worked with hundreds of photographers. I can genuinely say you were one of the kindest and most genuine photographers I have worked with. It is always such a breath of fresh air when a photographer gives you direction and feedback for posing. Especially since as a model, I usually can’t see what you’re seeing (unless there’s a mirror). I see big things in your future! In the group you stood out! You moved around! You shot from different angles.
You were polite and made sure shooting from different angles was ok with me. These are all small things that some people don’t even think about that have been shooting for over 20 years. You’re welcome to include my name. As a model sometimes I like to screen photographers and ask other models who have shot with them their experience. Not only are you a wonderful human but your work is absolutely wonderful. Like I said, I’m saying this as someone who has worked with hundreds of people over many years.’

I love cinematic storytelling through photography lighting setups, there’s something about the ambiance that just adds depth to the model and makes you wonder what journey brought them to where they are.
Thanks to .ca for hosting the workshop and for the space!

‘Aiello photography is easy and fun to work with! Their editing style made our pictures vibrant and colourful, and they were happy to guide us through poses to try. Scheduling was easy as well!’
✨ Thanks, Phoenix! ✨
I promise I took more images with my camera than I ate treats 👀 🍫🍬
Was lovely to meet all the vendors and folks in the community coming to support ✨
📸 just a few of the things I like to do when capturing events
🗓️ Knowing the event schedule - I familiarize myself with the key moments and highlights of the event to ensure I’m in the right place at the right time. Also, aligning with organizers before the event to confirm the shot list or any last minute requests.
📍Arriving early on location - I get to the venue early to scout the location, test my settings, and take some establishing shots.
🌞 Using natural light - Whenever possible, I use natural light to my advantage. The event room at the Hamilton art gallery is beautiful and has light flooding in from all angles. With the event starting at 6pm it was perfect lighting bouncing off the white walls.
🥹 Capturing candid moments - I look for natural interactions and emotions. These candid shots often tell a better story than posed photos.
🤫 Being discreet - I try my best to blend in and avoid disrupting the flow of the event. This helps people feel more comfortable and act naturally.
🌊 Staying hydrated and taking noise breaks - This one is a must have as I find I can go for longer if I pace myself and literally just take care. In my 20s, I would’ve just powered through but now I can recognize when I am overstimulated and take breaks.
What are your must haves when preparing for and participating in events?
If a vendor wasn’t tagged appropriately in a photo please let me know and I’ll tag them! There are some I couldn’t find when I searched for tags 🏷️
☀️✨4 Golden hour benefits ☀️✨
Fun photoshoot with Victor back in so-called Ottawa. We hoped up on the train tracks by the river and golden hour (the period shortly after sunrise and before sunset) was upon us.
👇🏻 4 benefits that I LOVE below 👇🏻
1. Soft, Warm Light - During golden hour, the sun is low in the sky, producing a soft and warm light that is flattering for portraits and enhances the colors in landscapes. In the first photo, Victor’s face doesn’t really have any really hard shadows and the tones in the image are very warm and playful.
2. Longer Shadows - The angle of the sunlight creates longer shadows, adding depth and dimension to images, which can make compositions more interesting and dramatic. That second photo is a good example but you can notice it in all of them.
3. Less Harsh Contrast - The diffuse light during golden hour reduces harsh contrasts between light and shadow, resulting in more balanced exposures and less need for post-processing. For example in the second image where Victor is looking in the opposite direction of the sun it gives a soft shadow on his left side instead of a harsh one if the sun was higher in the sky like mid-day.
4. Atmospheric Effects - The warm tones and potential for atmospheric effects like mist or haze can add a magical, ethereal quality to photographs, enhancing their mood and appeal. The third photo there, with Victor and the bird lol, the sun, skyline and clouds provide that vibe I was looking for and is a good example of atmospheric effect.
Golden hour is an ideal time for capturing beautiful, high-quality images. It’s not the ONLY time to take photos but it’s one of my favourites due to all the above reasons. I’ve also been able to practice different lighting setups in studio to mimic this effect at all hours of the day 🏮🕯️🔦💡⚡️🔅🔆.

Do you wanna know?
I bet you do 😈 Capturing these shots was fun, got to use .lighting , bleached muslin fabric to diffuse the warm color temperature and a smoke machine to really make it feel cinematic. How many lights do you think were used in the making of this shot? Drop a guess in the comments.
