There are some new friends that have joined this space, so I thought I would re-introduce myself.

My name is Kate, my pronouns are she/her, and I live in Waterdown, Ontario, which lies within the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Huron-Wendat Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

I love being creative and have been since I was a child. I am also a mom to babies both skin and fur, and a wife to a wonderful man who has the patience to put up with paint splatter, hot glue strings, and glitter found in the most unsuspecting places around the house. 🫣

Graceful Paints was started a few years ago, as a way to share what I was creating with whomever was interested. And I must admit, I'm not great at this content game but I do my best to let you know what I'm up to.

Today, you will see posts about my current endeavors with the Paint Nite platform and hosting paint and drink events so others can share their creativity in a relaxed, fun, and easy-going space.

I still have artwork for sale, which is in my abstract style and can be found in past posts. And I take on the odd commissioned works.

First attempt at a pour paint event by while enjoying some great food and drinks at in Dundas.

Today, this September 30th, in Canada marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and responds to the Call to Action #80 of the Truth and Reconcilation Commission's 94 calls to action to "honour Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process."

While this piece was not created with Indigenous associations in mind, I do find it fitting for today. Feathers are an important symbol in many Indigenous cultures. The Indigenous Art Collective of Canada is a non-profit organization that protects endangered Indigenous art forms and artists. Learn more about them and their feather donation initiative at www.passthefeather.org

This piece, entitled "Three Wishes" is available for sale, and 50% of the proceeds will be donated to to help them continue their great work. DM me if interested in showing your support. 🧡

The seven charkas are said to be the energy points of the body, and a mandala is an aid to meditation, which can help to guide one's practice in unblocking the chakra. The combination of these elements came together so beautifully.

I am so honoured to bring my client's vision to life in this piece. I hope it brings her peace and positive energy in its new home in her meditation room.

Nearly completed and so happy with how these colours came together.

When working on a commissioned piece, I will test things out a couple times before hitting brush to canvas.

I've mentioned before that I use gesso to add dimension and texture to my pieces.

Different consistencies give different effects. The lighter weight gesso likes to crackle, like you see here. It's less predictable, which makes the final outcome more interesting.

This beauty found its forever home. ❤
