One full year serving! One full year on council. I have provided quarterly updates prior to this – so rather than a yearly run down let’s just talk about the last 90 days. October till December 2023 was filled with events, meetings, conversations, connections, learning and more.
It is always neat to see events happening and being supported by those living here! I enjoy attending these events because of the connections and conversations that do happen when we are not behind keyboards. The Mayors Prayer Breakfast (hosted by the Innisfil Community Church) and the Cookstown Pancake Breakfast at the Firehall were great October happenings that I was privileged to attend and in turn had some great conversations with community members!
I loved meeting Jennifer Howard from Proceyon, with other council members, and Mitch from our By Law Department this quarter. These conversations provided me with a better understanding of their services, their views on their services and more importantly it gave us the opportunity to brainstorm some ideas for going forward of maybe tweaks and changes and implementations that could make a difference for us all.
In November a few of us attended an Energy Symposium Conference in Toronto. Mayor Dollin was the moderator at this event on day 2. I was grateful that Councillor Waters was with me, and he helped me better understand and absorb what was being shared by answering my questions as each speaker presented.
November 11th – 3 Ceremonies and Poppy tagging at Sobey’s! I love that we pause and honour our veterans in various ways and through various programs and committees. I am grateful for those who served and do serve and glad I was able to participate in all the November 11th happenings. November 11th also included the very first Diwali Festival – what a great day and event to bring to our community.
December brought us to Santa Claus Parades (two), Gingerbread house competition, Menorah lighting and a sing-along at town square I was able to attend! Again, all great moments for connecting and conversations face to face!
The town square sing-along was something a local teen was so instrumental in putting together. A local teen! I want to highlight this. It was an individual who wanted to do something community wise, and she reached out and looked for support and the how to and make it happen and as a result MADE it happen!
In between all of this – there were multiple ribbon cutting ceremonies, grand openings, business anniversaries and a few retirement parties to attend of long-time business owners. The business community is so important in our town. Their growth and sustainability so important for us all. To me these were not just handshake moments but truly moments where I could be part of and witness local support for our growing business folks. In a conversation with one of our local entrepreneurs – I asked how supported she felt by our town and the programs. In response to the DMZ Program specifically she shared a statement I want to pass along – her statement was: “No business in Innisfil should fail or not feel supported, there is so much here to help.”
In closing – what a great quarter this was and a close to 2023.
Have an idea? Reach out.
Feel there is a need being unmet? Reach out.
Have a positive moment to share? Reach out.
Have some constructive criticism to share? Reach out.
2024 – I am excited and so ready! We live in a great town with amazing community spirit. Thank you for being part of it.

Had fun last night at the Innisfil Spartans Junior Hockey Club hockey game with fellow councillor Robert Saunders and Mayor Lynn Dollin. We almost missed the “pj toss” because they scored their first goal within the first couple minutes! Game ended in a 4-4 tie.

The Spartans & Christmas 4 kids will be hosting their 2nd annual PJ toss during the December 15th game against the Orillia Terriers! PJ’s will be tossed on the ice after the Spartans first goal. All sizes of PJ’s will be accepted.
