ATTENTION PARENTS, ATHLETES, OFFICIALS, & VOLUNTEERS

Things are heating up with the upcoming 2024 BC Athletics Junior Development Championships, scheduled to take place from July 26-28, 2024, at South Surrey Athletic Park in Surrey, BC!

To participate, athletes must be born between 2011 and 2015 and be BC Athletics competitive members. Please note the upcoming deadlines for registration:

Entry Deadline: Saturday, July 20th, by 11:59 PM PST ($8.00 per event)

Late Entry Deadline: Monday, July 22nd, by 11:59 PM PST ($15.00 per event)

No registrations will be accepted after the late entry deadline.

We are in need of more officials and volunteers to ensure the smooth running of this event. The 2024 BC Athletics Junior Development Championships is the largest event of its kind in BC, and your support as a volunteer is crucial to its success. If you are able to help out, please sign up here.

Declarations for Legions are due this Sunday. If you are hoping to make Team BC - please ensure that your declarations are submitted before the deadline.

There will be regular practice at the Apple Bowl on Saturday.

There will be NO supplemental practice on Sunday. I believe that everyone will be at the BC Track & Field Championships. If I’ve missed anyone - please text Pat and she'll send you a workout.

OAC's long time member and previous middle-distance coach, Malindi Elmore, is headed to Paris 2024 for her 3rd Olympic performance! CBC has featured her in a soon-to-be released one-hour documentary, Running a Revolution.

CBC’s Scott Russell explains “The women’s marathon at Paris 2024 may be the most culturally significant moment of these Games. This gruelling race represents the culmination of the struggle women have endured to achieve gender equality on the Olympic stage. Running a Revolution follows the path of two Canadians, Malindi Elmore and Natasha Wodak, who travel the world with hopes of getting to the start line of this historic event.”

On July 23, 2024 at the Mary Irwin Theatre in Kelowna, Running a Revolution will be premiered. All of the earnings from the ticket sales, silent auction & t-shirt sales will be donated to KidSport Kelowna. Malindi has set a goal of $24,000 raised for KidSport Kelowna for Paris 2024!

Our local KidSport Kelowna Chapter was launched in 2002 and provides grants for local children ages 18 and under to participate in a sport season of their choice. In Kelowna, KidSport provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport. Funds raised in Kelowna stay in Kelowna, helping kids get off the sidelines and into the game. With the ongoing help from dedicated corporate partners along with the support of local business, organizations, service groups and individuals, KidSport Kelowna is able to fulfill our mission “So ALL Kids Can Play!”

Today is the last day for regular registration for the 2024 BC Athletics Provincial Track and Field Jamboree in Nanaimo, BC July 12-14th.  Regular Registration closes tonight at 11:59pm PST.  After tonight, all registrants will be charged the late registration fee.

At the moment, tonight's practice is still a go! We will be following the weather closely and cancel closer to practice time if necessary. We understand the challenges of a last-minute cancellation, so parents and athletes may use their own desecration, and choose whether or not chance it.

OAC, just rolling with it!

A few dates are coming up (starting tomorrow) when the Apple Bowl is closed in preparation for the Canadian Premier Soccer League On Tour Kelowna 2024, on June 16th, and the Special Olympics Regional Qualifier Track + Field Meet on June 22!

OAC Training will proceed at the scheduled times, however, at different locations.

Here are the dates that conflict and the current training plan.

On June 28-30, 2024, during our Jack Brow Memorial Track Meet, we will be hosting a Silent Auction Fundraiser. With our Spring + Summer track and field season in full swing, we are planning this fundraising event to reach this year's fundraising goal, which is vital to the growth of Okanagan Athletics Club.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 with this fundraiser, but WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

We aim to have each family contribute 1 item of any size to the Silent Auction, by donating yourself, or acquiring a donation from someone you know who owns a business or approach a business you support often. This can be a bottle of wine, a $10 gift card, a trip around the world, and literally anything in between. When it’s time to bid, you can share with everyone you know, as the bidding takes place online!
