Choosing the right music for Music Therapy participants is an ongoing process. Thank goodness I had the good fortune to work with composer Donna Rhodenizer when I was quite a bit younger in my teaching practicum.
If you donāt know Donnaās music, I highly recommend you check her out
www.donnaandandy.com. In my twenty-five years making music with kids, her songs, āI Need a Home for My Dinosaurā and āEd the Invisible Dragonā have been regular hits!
In this photo, we are sharing āThe Vacation Songā, also written by Donna. I am guiding my participant to play in the space between the words that Donna created for improvisation. She really enjoys this songā¦especially the lyric about the Dadās beard freezing into icicles. Her Dad has a beard, of course, and she finds this hysterical. Thank you to Mom for snapping this photo of Music Therapy in action.
And thank you Donna Rhodenizer for providing me with some of my all time favourite music for kiddos!
We have enjoyed sharing music with Rhonda for many decades. We are very happy to know that she is using and enjoying our music with her Music Therapy participants!

If you have an umbrella, a rainy day is an opportunity to enjoy those dripping rain drops! I wrote this song for young singers (ages 8 and under). The range is within an octave and there are repeated phrases that make the lyrics and melody very accessible for this age group. Enjoy the rain!
Umbrellas - Song for Young Singers - by Donna Rhodenizer A Song for Young Singers about the merits of having an umbrella, enabling them to enjoy the rain. Have fun singing Umbrellas - composed by Donna Rhodenizer
We are the Children of the World was recorded on our Donna & Andy Computer Cat CD many years ago now. The message is still relevant today as we acknowledge our differences while celebrating what unites us. The pop style creates a strong musical foundation and multiple key changes creates energy and momentum. Download your copy at https://donnaandandy.com/product/we-are-the-children-of-the-world-song-by-donna-rhodenizer/
Written with two arrangement options, this song works well for unison/optional 2-part ensembles, as well as for combined Treble Choir with SATB Choir. We are the Children of the World is a great finale song for massed choirs while remaining accessible for smaller ensembles. Use the thought-provoking lyrics for Character Trait Education topics such as: community, respect, environment, multi-culturalism and acceptance. Download includes printed music with rights to make copies, accompaniment tracks and more!
We are the Children of the World Composed by Donna Rhodenizer We are the Children of the World is a wonderful closing āanthemā for a school concert. An excellent repertoire choice for elementary and middle school.

Join us at the Wolfville Farmer's Market this Saturday (Jan 06, 2024) for some music and fun. We'll have some spoons for you to play and our Newfoundland Ugly Sticks too.
We had great fun singing at the Acadia Holiday Skate and Carol Sing on December 3. If you look closely, you can see that I am playing the piano with my gloves on! It was nippy but there was a bonfire and hot beverages, and of course, Santa was there which made it all very jolly and festive! I may have blatantly mentioned to Santa that I want (need) a catalytic converter for Christmas. We'll see how that goes! Merry Christmas!

We have a booth at the Wolfville Farmers' Market Sat Nov 25. Drop by and say hi and get a balloon sword.
See you there.

Since we are being nostalgic, looking at Donna & Andy concert photos from years ago, here is another student who attended the same school as Reuben. Terra Spencer will know one of these line dancing students I am guessing! What a blast from the past!!
Many years ago at a Donna & Andy school concert a student volunteered to play the Newfoundland Ugly stick as part of our kitchen party. We could tell right away that this kid had talent! Sure enough, years later, he is on his own musical career path as a great Maritime performer with his siblings. Reuben, to you remember this Donna & Andy concert? The Gilberts
