"We are here to each other. That is why you are alive. That is what is for."

A client asked me for a quick three-card reading to help give her clarity on an issue she was wondering about. (I asked her if I could share her reading here). She had an idea for a consulting business she was interested in starting up and wondered what she would need to do in order to be successful. She said a lot of people say she is very good at this business, but she’s not confident that she’s expert enough yet to start a new business and wondered what the cards’ take on it would be. For this three-card spread, the first one would be the idea, the second one describes what needs to be taken into consideration and thought about, and the third card would be the outcome.

So let’s go through this:

*PAGE OF WANDS*: Sometimes pages can represent your children, but they can also be a new opportunity. Pages encourage us to take risks, and they can be messengers. They ask us to think about how we can grow and change in positive ways. The Page of Wands, in particular, indicates something we are passionate and excited about, and is always looking for new ways to cultivate self-growth and development. This card affirms that she is interested and intrigued about this new venture, which could represent something positive and rewarding for her.

*SEVEN OF SWORDS*: Sevens, in general, are another card favourable to growing, inner work, and moving toward change. Although sometimes the Seven of Swords can represent sneaking around or avoiding confrontation, there can be another meaning to it to – of being prepared, of doing your research, and ‘collecting the ideas of others’ before undertaking a big or important project. In this card, the image shows the young person is taking what they need, not more – taking what they can carry, not more. The advice this card gives is to do research, talk with people, prepare, and consider what can reasonably be taken on at this point without taking on too much.

Finally, we have *JUSTICE*. Justice calls on us to make a decision, but especially the decision that will bring harmony, equity, and peace. It talks about setting fair prices and compensation for your work and time – recognizing what is good and you want to keep in your life, and what it’s time to get rid of. It asks us to be true to ourselves and tconsider what really matters.
From my take, the tarot acknowledges that she has a dream that could very well become something wonderful and viable in her life. Doing so requires a plan and the right preparation and understanding of what it takes to be successful and happy. She needs to talk to others, do her research, and come up with a way of creating this business in a way that does not overwhelm her time, energy, and financial resources at the moment, but adds to it and brings joy at the same time. She needs to be aware of what a ’fair price’ for her time and creative energy would be, and create the life she wants and deserves.

You want a physicist to speak at your funeral. You want the physicist to talk to your grieving family about the conservation of energy so they will understand that your energy has not died. You want the physicist to remind your sobbing mother about the first law of thermodynamics; that no energy gets created in the universe, and none is destroyed. You want your mother to know that all your energy, every vibration, every Btu of heat, every wave of every particle that was her beloved child remains with her in this world. You want the physicist to tell your weeping father that amid energies of the cosmos, you gave as good as you got.

And at one point you'd hope that the physicist would step down from the pulpit and walk to your brokenhearted spouse there in the pew and tell him that all the photons that ever bounced off your face, all the particles whose paths were interrupted by your smile, by the touch of your hair, hundreds of trillions of particles, have raced off like children, their ways forever changed by you. And as your widow rocks in the arms of a loving family, may the physicist let her know that all the photons that bounced from you were gathered in the particle detectors that are her eyes, that those photons created within her constellations of electromagnetically charged neurons whose energy will go on forever.

And the physicist will remind the congregation of how much of all our energy is given off as heat. There may be a few fanning themselves with their programs as he says it. And he will tell them that the warmth that flowed through you in life is still here, still part of all that we are, even as we who mourn continue the heat of our own lives.

And you'll want the physicist to explain to those who loved you that they need not have faith; indeed, they should not have faith. Let them know that they can measure, that scientists have measured precisely the conservation of energy and found it accurate, verifiable and consistent across space and time. You can hope your family will examine the evidence and satisfy themselves that the science is sound and that they'll be comforted to know your energy's still around. According to the law of the conservation of energy, not a bit of you is gone; you're just less orderly. Amen.
