The Bank of Canada has raised its overnight target rate by a half-point, bringing it to 1.50%.

For those who have a variable mortgage or a line of credit product, you will notified around July 1st that the prime rate will be increasing to 3.7%.

For example, if you have prime minus .75% you would have an interest rate of 2.95% commencing around July 1st.

Your mortgage is approaching the end of its term... and it's almost time to renew. Are you wondering when the right time to start shopping is?

A mortgage renewal is the end of your term — for example, the end of your fixed five-year term. If you are not at the end of your mortgage term, then your mortgage is now open and it either needs to be renewed or newly placed.

It's beneficial to start inquiring on the new term 150 days, or about five months, before expiry.
