Catherine's Creations
I take unwanted furniture and give it a new fabulous life.
These nightstands were a pain in my posterior, nothing seemed to go right. They started out as a desk. It wasn't vintage or spectacularly made but I persevered and this is what I came up with.....
They are painted in a very light beige/cream colour called Daylight. The drawer sides and interior is Lichen by Fusion Mineral Paint.

Eeeeeee!!!!! I love how these 1960's end tables turned out!!!! I found these at a junk store in Georgetown and made my friend stand beside one while I took the other to the cash.
This is my favoutite era of furniture to work on.
I did have major creative/painting block with these.....I stared at them forever and actually had them finished in another colour with the shelf a stained wood. (the top is the ever popular 60's arborite) I hated them!!
I perused Fusion Mineral Paints colours and this colour Everett won. My neighbour walked by while I was taking the pictures and commented on the beautiful colour....phew, I chose correctly.

The power of paint.....
Last weekend I purchased these tired 1970s end tables. I mentioned it to a co-worker and showed him the picture. He said he has a set of brown ones his wife wants him to throw out.
I then showed him a picture of a pair I did last year. He in turn showed his wife.
The next day he told me he is now not allowed to get rid of them....his wife wants them painted and she already has a spot picked out for them. ๐

These were a vanity that I took apart. They posed more of a challenge then a normal vanity re-vamp because the sides had rounded corners. (picture included)
I stared at them way longer than necessary because I changed my mind so often.....but they have turned out nicely and have already been spoken for.

This is an exceptionally well made piece of furniture. It did need a makeover and I hope I have done it justice. It is all wood construction and I would date it 1940's or early 50's. The drawers have curved sides and even that wood is top notch. The wood was stripped of its dull blah finish to reveal the most gorgeous walnut ever!!! I sealed it with a wood oil so water will just bead up if there happens to be a spill.
It could be used as a chest of drawers or maybe an entrance table or large bedside table.

These skinny nightstands were a vintage maple desk that I took apart. They are very plain considering what I usually get up to with my makeovers, but I have been told to just list them as they are. Not everyone wants extras. ๐

You may remember these from the beginning of the summer. I decided to go a different direction and I must say I'm loving them more than when I thought I loved them before. ๐
It was a solid wood Krug Brother's vanity, from the 40's, that I took apart. The wood is gorgeous!! The tops are walnut. I have sealed the wood with an oil, my favourite sealer for wood.
The hardware is the original beautiful brass.
It is painted in Coal Black by Fusion Mineral Paint.

I really enjoy re-vamping old and forgotten furniture. Unfortunately with the way the economy is going my hobby/business is very, very slow. I do get it. People have to eat, buy gas and live somewhere rather than buy pretty furniture.
I am still going to work on the things I have but at a much slower pace.
That being said, these are 3 projects that are being worked on a bit at a time.

This is the only project left from my summer 2022 refinishing and painting projects. (Just bringing it to the top of my posts, still available)
Every once in a while I do a piece that I think I really need to keep...but that's not practical for my families well being....๐
This has been stripped to the original gorgeous wood and sealed with a wood oil.
It's original purpose was a cedar chest but it would be perfect as a coffee table or entrance bench.

Pink, pink, pink....BRIGHT pink!!
I had this painted in a pale pink colour but it was so lifeless. I had a container of a discontinued paint from Fusion Mineral Paint called CUREiously Pink that I used but that was too pink. My son's looked at it and commented "wow, that's really pink".
You could either say the stripes (metallic champagne also by Fusion) toned it down or took it over the top. Either way I like it!!

These nightstands challenged my abilities. I must have spent a week solely on these and that was before the painting part.
I used 2 identical desks, deconstructed them and went to work.
Both desks had a manufacture date stamped inside. One was June 1961 and the other November 1961. They are now ready for another 62 years of service.
The top paint colour is not quite a white and the bottom colour is not quite a black called Iron Ore.

This chest of drawers was in good shape except that the top needed to be reattached. I covered up the carvings because I thought they were too dated.
It is painted in a pale pink paint. Its pretty but I will never use this paint again. I wasn't thrilled with the consistency. It's done now and I will move on.....๐
Besides using it as a chest of drawers it could also be a bedside table.

This set needed more work than I had anticipated. One issue just led to another issue. I wanted to send them to the curb many, many times.
But I didn't and they turned out rather striking.
They are painted in a medium gray colour and black glaze was added to give depth and an aged look.
They are taller than normal so perfect for a small bedroom.

*These are getting a re-do, stay tuned*
I have had these nightstands for years now. I had originally painted them a lovely green but apparently that wasn't the right vibe for them. I re-painted them, got them out of my dining room and pictures taken.
They are SO, SO vintage. The 2 drawer one I would estimate is from the late 40's and the single drawer is from the 50's. The quality and craftsmanship of these pieces is exceptional. All wood construction and heavy to boot. The 2 drawer has beautifully crafted curved drawers and made by a Company called Canada Cabinets.
The single drawer was made by Peppler which was in Hanover, ON.
I don't actually remember the exact colour...navy of some sort.

I posted about this coffee table back in February on an unusually warm day. I was stripping the old finish. It rolled around the garage for a long time after that. I had thought I would do a metal base to update it a bit. The wooden base is very well attached and it was going to be way too much trouble to remove it and besides I do love the shape of the legs. People really knew how to make furniture to last a lifetime.
I had also thought it was teak....I now don't think so. My wood geek senses are all a twitter over this gorgeous top. โค
It is shorter in height so I have had it in front of my sofa for a few days and now I don't want to sell it .....but, I can't keep everything I refinish.

Oh my goodness....these are sooooo beautiful!!! I'm such a wood geek and these are SOLID wood. They were a Krug Brothers antique vanity that I took apart. I completely stripped the old finish and sealed it with a wood oil. The drawer fronts and sides are a wallpaper that has also been sealed. I wanted to paint the paper but it just complimented the wood colour so, so well.
The handles have just been cleaned. They are the original solid brass.
This kind of quality furniture is a rarity today.

I found this china cabinet in the wild (on the curb) and was appalled that someone would throw it out as trash but that seems to be my speciality. It was in relatively good shape but had to be completely stripped, the decades old varnish was failing. I got to work the day after it was rescued and voila...2 1/2 weeks later it is finished.
It is painted in a creamy/whitish colour and the inside and drawer are Sacred Sage by Fusion Mineral Paint.

I bought this chest of drawers at the re-store in Fergus. I knew there was some beautiful wood under that drab 1950"s finish. It is gorgeous elm wood.
It took many, many hours of sanding because of some sort of alien vintage finish over the wood.
It is ALL wood construction!

These nightstands have been in my garage for a few years now. When I got them they were very badly painted and the bottom part was water damaged. (see before pictures) I cut the water damage off and put them back in the garage.....for later.
They aren't exactly how I had pictured them, there were, of course, a few hiccups along the way.
They are painted a creamy white and pale gray.

Yes...these are pretty but I wanted to send them to the curb so many, many times. They fought me at EVERY turn!!
They are from the 80's, the beginning of the pressed wood era, mind you they are a good sturdy pressed wood.
There are bumps and fixes that I normally would not have on my furniture pieces but I got grumpy at them and just wanted them to be done....hence the lower than normal selling price for a large set of nightstands.
They are a creamy white and medium gray, a gorgeous colour combination.

This nightstand is solid, I believe maple and maybe some birch. There is a manufacture date of 1978 inside the frame.
I modernized the bottom by cutting off the scrolly stuff and gave it a 2 toned look. The top part is washed with Algonquin by Fusion Mineral Paint and the bottom is a mixture of Algonquin and Cathedral Taupe. It is, in my opinion, pretty cute and ready for many more years of service.

This nightstand was stripped to bare wood and paint washed with both Cathedral Taupe and Algonquin paint by Fusion Mineral Paint. I sealed it with white stain and finishing oil. It wasn't the outcome I had envisioned but it sure did turn out nicely.

This cute little mid century nightstand has been given a new life....and it's sooo cute!!!!
There is a manufacture date on the back of the drawer....June 19, 1954. I stripped it completely thinking I would like to do a paint wash but the wood was too blah. Only the top surfaces and legs got the wash and they were sealed with a white stain and finishing oil.
Painted with a beautiful blue called Paisley by Fusion Mineral Paint.

This end table/nightstand put me through many stages of patience...I think plan c or d finally worked. I am very pleased with the final product.
The colour is a beautiful forest green. It was a mistint that I think I will have to try and match...it's gorgeous.
I wasn't fussy about the original legs and I just happened to have the hair pin legs...win, win!!

I was scuff sanding to get it ready for paint and the finish came off quite easily so I switched to plan b and paint washed it instead.
I love how it turned out. โค๏ธ

This antique mirror has had a modern update. It went through many plans and finally plan c worked.
I stripped the thick urethane, sanded and paint washed with a creamy white. It looked dreadful so I added some depth with white and dark waxes.
It is now a creamy antiqued beige colour and is much nicer in person than in the pictures.
It boasts the original beveled mirror.

It is such a beautiful sunny February day. It is warm in front of my garage so i went out to have a look at my spring projects.
This squatty coffee table (14 1/2" tall) is teak and had some sort of alien type finish that took more effort than I expected to remove it . It will take considerable more work and if the top works out like I hope, I will add some taller legs.
It felt sooooo good to be once again outside working!!!!
