So excited to share some photos of our recent East End Condo project! We were only tasked with finishes on this one, but we think the fine chevron floor looks stunning in the new space. We also convinced the wonderful owners to add some colour to the ceilings which, contrary to popular belief, does not make the space look smaller. Coming up in the next few days are some of the finishes l, design and tile work we did for the bathrooms.

During a discussion about summer plans while Opal was away at overnight camp, we asked Atticus if he would like to build and work with Momma through the summer. Expecting a halfhearted reply, we were pleasantly surprised when he enthusiastically agreed to (for money, of course). He is earning a weekly wage by assisting us with fixing our entryway and kitchen in between our regular AB+ZU work. In the end, he has been very helpful, focused, and a pleasure to work with. He has made suggestions for how to do things more easily and found novel and safe ways to accomplish tasks that are difficult for anyone. Cheaper than two kids at overnight camp, he’s refining his motor skills and providing a helpful hand. Win-win-win!
I like working Saturdays, most of the trades work Saturdays and it’s great day to get stuff done with 10% less traffic 😂 ( In Toronto at least ) Picking up some curbs and nooks at for our Geary project. Speaking of working weekends, check out Dzüng our tiler’s work so far .. .toronto
What started as a casual sketching session unexpectedly transformed into a captivating project for a set of custom stairs. Through the collaboration of an experienced engineer, stair builder, and adventurous clients, we worked diligently together to bring this vision to life. The resulting custom stair set not only fulfilled its intended purpose but also added a unique visual element that enhanced the charm of the cottage.
Everything in its place. At least for the time being ! Sconce by

A little lull in deadlines has hopefully given me enough time to finish this job on our own home. I’m removing a front closet that made the entryway claustrophobic and giving everyone a private closet in the mudroom. Unfortunately, everything known to humankind is running through these walls, so I have to move the HVAC (which actually had a huge crack in it—no wonder the kids’ rooms were always hot) and the central vacuum, as well as all the walls and materials. Fun stuff. After that, it’s time to rip up the floor and finally match our new flooring with the rest of the entryway.
It’s that time again. We’re excited to work with next week on our East End Condo Project shoot. Kira has collaborated with us on several shoots, and you might recognize her work from our feature in . This upcoming project features some exceptional tiles and selections that we can’t wait to share with you.
We pause all the beautiful IG Photos to bring you another site visit and some photos from our Harbourfront Condo project. Thanks to our Builder and partner for the shots. To all the fans of seeing behind the scenes, there’s been a ton of work and communication on this job to achieve a high level of detail. Not only has the space been stripped to the bones, but a whole new floor has been devised , improving both the functionality and look of the home. The attention to detail is clear in every part of the space, we can’t wait to see the progress in the next few weeks. . Stay tuned 🔬

Polished concrete is a favorite of both ours and our clients, especially in high-traffic areas that need to be modernized and updated. Contrary to people finding it cold and sterile, polished concrete looks good with throw rugs and/or fine millwork finishing. Together with and Solares Architecture Inc, this project was achieved very skillfully and quickly. The fronts are from the US but came quite fast. By letting your designer take care of lead times, your builder can have peace of mind knowing things will arrive right on time. photo by .
I wish we had some more pretty pictures for Instagram this morning, but it’s not always the case. After a few setbacks we're now fully engaged in our downtown condo project. Renovating condos demands meticulous planning, ongoing communication with the condo board, and navigating shorter working hours. There are also numerous logistical challenges, such as parking and elevator usage. These accessibility difficulties are part of every job of course but can be amplified in a condo project. Together with @ and we are adept at managing them.
Seamless transitions between rooms with tiles and flooring create a harmonious and cohesive living environment. When different rooms in a home seamlessly blend into one another without abrupt changes in flooring material or design, it enhances the overall sense of space and flow. This design choice can make a space feel larger and more open, as there are no visual interruptions that might break up the continuity of the floor. Additionally, seamless transitions can contribute to a more elegant and sophisticated look, as the flooring appears to be a unified element throughout the home.
Whether you're fiddling around in your own home, taking on a big renovation, or, like me, finishing up after the builders have left, doing things on your own can be a daunting task. Take some time to read the AB+ZU blog. I go through some insights and things I've learned while designing and building my own home.
At AB+ZU, we are dedicated to delivering a seamless and transparent experience for our clients. Our goal is to ensure that every step of the design process is clear and well-communicated. Throughout your journey with us, we maintain continuous communication using visual guides, portals, schedules and site visits.
On our Website we create a personalized portal for you that houses everything from your contract to your most recent invoice, from the initial brainstorming sessions to the final materials and finish boards. At each stage, we work diligently to bring you closer to your project's goal while keeping the entire project's integrity in mind.
Using we can present schedules and seek client approvals efficiently. All sign-offs and approvals are then sent directly to the selected builder and trades, ensuring a smooth and coordinated workflow.
There's always something going on around here. We're wrapping up a few exciting projects, getting started on a couple more, and as always, continuing to build our own home. Thanks for dropping by. Make sure to check back when you can, and as always, hit the like button if you want us in your feed more.

Albert Britnell Books was one of the first independent bookshops to shutter in Toronto. This was at the beginning of the Indigo/Chapters revolution in the late 90s. It has since become one of the first and busiest Starbucks in the city. Before the third wave of coffee, online ordering, and the like, Toronto was a different place. It’s interesting to walk around and see the changes happening. Some are good, but most are not. At least some of these beautiful original facades remain. How do we move forward as a city while respecting our past yet not being entrenched in nostalgia?
Progress on another project coming along. Looking forward to collaboration with . Enjoying working on multiple projects in multiple palettes.

Hey, I’m Jeremy, one half of Abandzu. While Kyla focuses on design, I handle the back-end operations. In my downtime I thought it would be fun to showcase some of my favorite places and things in Toronto.
In my hands is “The Signs That Define Toronto,” a great book that my dad gifted me for Christmas. It’s from , Toronto’s best Toronto bookstore! There are some great stories in it, and I especially like the section on the infamous Sam the Record Man sign. It was designed by the Brothers Markle, who developed a program to give the lights an illusion that the sign was spinning. So many great signs are now gone but this book brought back some great memories. If you’re into this stuff like I am, you, of course, need to follow the . Until next time...
Tiles so bright I got to wear shades.. Working my way through some projects by spending time in some of my favourite places.
I still haven’t found the curtains I’ve been looking for so these are a temporary place holder. They were a good price and available so I went for it. I’ve searched high and low for the fabric I really want but at this stage the family ( and the neighbours ) deserved window coverings ! 😂 .
We had fun designing the cake stand for the . The mirrored refrigerated display was a real eye catcher, especially when the sun came through the skylights.

One more post about our fabulous bathtub (to us at least) 😇. There were a lot of considerations with this tub, and it took us a while to determine the best connections and style, especially with it being on top of an “engineered” wood floor. We did eventually add a little bead of caulking after watching our son (versus our daughter) bathe in it. It’s always a challenge to want “design” but also have two pre-teen children that like being around and using our stuff. We’re not complaining, but we’re sure we are not the only ones in this boat.
