Sneak peek into my "Breaking the Glass Ceiling" collection! What do you think?

This collection has been on the drawing board for a long time. People often ask me what inspires me. It's usually an event, a bead, a value I fall in love with, or a value I want to promote.

Yesterday, it was all three:
- The celebration of two brilliant and competent women becoming president
- Incredible rose, lemon, and whiskey quartz, along with stunning gold-plated pear drops with inserts
- Values: Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women

I often use purple to express gender equality, as it combines blue and pink, traditional gender-representing colors. I was intrigued that President Claudia Sheinbaum chose that color for her suit.

This collection will be designed with quartz, crystals, and antique glass. They will shortly be up on my website and the collection will be presented at Montreal Fashion Week (mmode) 16th-22nd of September- SAVE THE DATE!!!

"RESURRECTING FORGOTTEN BEADS

While recycled metals are carving out an increasingly important place in the jewelry world, working with antique beads unearthed in souks, flea markets, or estate sales is more unusual. This is the niche Tonya Dickenson chose to occupy when she launched Asymmetric by Design in 2022. "When people think sustainability and eco-responsibility, they don't necessarily think jewelry when we have 40,000 years of pearls. I think we've had enough!" says the woman who was a finalist for the President's Coup de cœur award at the mmode 2023 Gala.

The daughter of a diplomat, the Montrealer grew up in Egypt, where she discovered the richness of the souks. Having lived in 11 countries and visited a hundred, she has amassed over 45 years an impressive collection of pearls and ancient stones from which she creates jewelry that is not only flamboyant, but also carries a message. "Each necklace has a name, a story and is unique, like you and me," says the woman who creates the jewels herself, inspired by a particular bead or an event, such as the war in Ukraine and the erosion of women's rights in certain countries, which have given rise to collections.

Not all the beads used are from her personal collection, but most are antique or, at the very least, reused. Prices are set according to the value of the components, which can be high, even for an antique piece. In the interests of sustainability, she also offers to overcycle old or broken jewelry, gathering dust in our wardrobes.
