Top Gun - Maverick: I am not a big fan of sequels (except some old ones and maybe a few new ones) but I have the feeling this will be a good one. Excellent trailer, amazingly edited (love cuts and edit from 1:23 to 2:20... soooo nice!), so dynamic! ... co-star Jon Hamm "There’s not a lot of CGI. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs."
Things that I like about this film and I am really looking forward to seeing it:
- Shooting in 6K (truly high definition)
- Little to almost no CGI (To me CGI, when is not well done, is ruining movies because at the end the movies end up looking like video games, so bad! ... except good CGI as in Mad Max... that's different)
- If the editing is as good as the trailer, then maybe this film will be a success... I think! ... "maybe" because with today's audiences one never knows.

... I think I heard this song at least 10 times today! It was released in 2000 and I still like it a lot. To me, it is a piece of art! The Gregorian chants, pop and electronic music mixed with lyrics in Italian, Latin and "imaginary language" which is like Loren Ipsum (language that has no meaning) for us designers are amazing! The video ... so well done and 100% desaturated, I love it! .. I found this interesting, but what it is weird is that jumpcuts is what tubers are doing nowadays and is so trendy! I personally don't like jumpcuts and I try to follow this 30 degrees rule.

While finishing my new website this weekend, I came across this video that I did for Domino's Pizza in 2015. It was done with footage and pictures received from Domino’s Pizza employees from all over Canada and taken with all kind of devices (phones, tablets, cams, etc.). There was no script, no storyboard, only a lot of footage and pics and a green light to come up with something fun and dynamic in 4 days! Not much sleep I had those 4 days, it was challenging but fun to do it!

How about this timeline of a video for a song I am working on with Premiere Pro. This is only 3 minutes! (Sorry I cannot reveal the name until the song is officially released)

Sometimes people ask me, how come editing a 1 minute or 2 minutes video cost that much money? how is it possible that it takes you 30, 40, 60 hours to do it and even more? then I try to explain that every frame counts, as an editor I HAVE to check and see every frame and decide which one to use, in which order, where to cut at the beginning and end of each cut (frame), follow a rhythm, and that does even include color correction, grading, contrast correction, effects and many other things. FYI: So how important are the first 10 seconds of your video? Why should you place a lot of attention to those 10 seconds to have your viewer engaged in your video? 10 seconds is the average amount of time it takes for a YouTube viewer, after clicking a video, to decide whether or not they want to watch the rest of your video. YouTube registers that view only after 30 seconds of watching the video; meaning that if the viewer leaves or stop your video before 30 seconds, then that view is not counted by YouTube and it will not have any impact on your analytics traffic or stats of your YouTube channel, blog or website.

… So I had a long flat shot of a group of Hip Hop dancers that are usually in every summer downtown festivity in Montreal. If you hangout in downtown Montreal in the summer; then probably you must have seen them. The footage was done on Saint Laurent a week ago, is a flat shot, long and kind of static, no lighting, no camera movements, absolutely bad sound, no nothing; just the great performance of these guys. My question was … how can I make this shot more interesting, a bit more dynamic and more enjoyable? So I did not stabilized it (to maintain its urban flavor), added visual effects, added sound effects, did some color grading, added some lighting effects to control de viewers’ attention and more … The most challenging part was to synchronize the score (music) with the performers rhythm and motions. Appreciation video

Glad to have completed editing a video x an important client, to which I committed last Tuesday and was due today (rain or shine), with lot of footage to be used. It was challenging (time constraint and lot of footage) but definitely fun to do! There was so much coffee and not many sleeping hours in the past days, but now is done! Tomorrow, Monday, will be my weekend! ... the life of a freelancer.
