Maki is back with a new ambient album titled Agora.

Further studies in melodic ambient, drone, noise and electroacoustic sound design. These were slowly drafted during the production of WAAIFTF, American Road Films and even as far back as If And Only If, his album with soso. Some rough drafts from this project ended up on If And Only If. The remainders were worked on through 2022-2023. Mostly as a distraction from producing structured music.

Coastal, by Nova Scotian hip hop artist Hermitofthewoods, is a tribute to the rugged and vibrant East Coast of Canada. A decade since his last solo release, Hermit returns with an eclectic record, marking his solo comeback after years of collaboration with Higher State and work on the academically-focused record Remix + Praxis, which earned him a Ph.D.

In Coastal, Hermitofthewoods takes us on a compelling journey through his own intricately crafted musical landscape of big beats and unexpected samples. With a captivating blend of introspective meditations on personal struggles and thought-provoking commentaries on the changing state of the world, this album encapsulates the essence of raw, unfiltered creativity from an artist who still has something to say.

“We Are an Image From the Future” is the spiritual successor to 2016’s “We Will Not Lead We Will Only Detonate“. Heavy drum work, synths and electro-acoustic sounds weave a complex and progressive soundscape with a vintage engineering vibe.

To accompany this limited edition cassette, we are all happy to announce the release of the Limited Edition cassette for his last EP, American Road Films. This version includes audio samples not featured on the original digital release and some nerdy analog signals encoded on the tape that you can decode to view images of the vehicles referenced in the songs.

Scott focused his efforts on mixing the album, as well as contributing to arrangements and some additional musical parts.

A few composers and guest vocalists were also involved to created this beautiful album, but Zedrine remains the star of the show!

2020 was tough for many and on his third album, titled The Mighty Highs and The Lowly Lows, Sign One tells it to f**k off politely. Seemingly every time there’s a lifestyle change Sign goes and makes a batch of rap songs, and the pandemic certainly provided that opportunity.

The Michigan native rapper/producer is currently residing in Columbus, Ohio, and in his younger days spent a decade in Orlando Florida fine tuning his chops with fellow Jerk Circuit members. The early indy rap MPC innovator continues to create sample based compositions on his latest album while writing straight forward American raps as if this was 1999. Sign continues to deliver his truth, whether it ’99 or ’22, the content can reflect decades as he pays homage and penance to his three sons, reminds us what a true winter really looks like, argues with people on social media, battles rappers who who only write battles but dont freestyle, sprinkles in some political satire and a special one for all the ladies, all except for one.

The Mighty Highs and The Lowly Lows is written, produced, and recorded by Sign One and released on vinyl and cassette through Endemik Music (CAN), in partnership with Audio Recon (USA) and Pen Thief Records (EU). We hope you enjoy this collection of rap songs.

The project started October 27, 2020 when an email was sent to the beat makers/producers of the Endemik Music Family. Six responded with laughter and excitement about the idea and so the remote project began.

The concept is, as the title of this blog suggests, pass the beat. The first round started in January, 2021. Each producer was to decide the BPM (beats per minute), create a drum track, sequenced out and at the end of the month send the files to the right.

With the second round and all rounds following, the producer was to add one more instrument track of their own choosing. Arranging the previous tracks were also encouraged.

Throughout the process the songs would morph and change from one round/one producer, to the next.

Finally passing through the circle and returning to the original creator of the drum track with no idea of where the song was to go and how it would be returned.

With the final round, the originator of the song was to arrange as they wanted and add an additional track, if needed.

This project was enjoyed by Deadly Stare (Montreal, QC), EMC (Halifax, NS), Hermitofthewoods (Halifax, NS), Maki (Kamloops, BC), SIGN ONE (Gahanna, OH) and soso (Saskatoon, SK). They became Endemik Remote Ensemble. Enjoy the EP, They Fired with Their Lives!
