Some of you might be wondering why I haven't been posting or beading much lately, and the reason for that is I am almost due with our 4th little one! Just another type of "Creation by Honey" 👶🏼

My beadwork has definitely taken a backseat to this crazy hectic life and I do not see it picking back up much in the coming months, but I appreciate all of you who have supported this venture and aside from the last couple of things I have to wrap up, I hope to have some free time to create in the future 🤎✨️🤎✨️

Every indigenous person you know is either a residential school survivor, the child of a residential school survivor, or grandchild of a residential school survivor. Every. Single. One.

I am alive because my grandmother survived, but not without the legacy of trauma caused by these "schools," which she carried for the rest of her life. That legacy is alive and well, and is passed down through the generations until we stop the cycle for our own children. 🧡

The use of an orange shirt as a symbol was inspired by the accounts of Phyllis Jack Webstad, whose personal clothing (including her new orange shirt) was taken from her during her first day of residential schooling, and never returned. The orange shirt is thus used as a symbol of the forced assimilation of Indigenous children that the residential school system enforced.
