Cait & Co. Design Boutique
We’re an up and coming local Interior Design Boutique dedicated in helping design, organize, and decorate spaces with both esthetics and function.
Servicing and building relationships on Vancouver Island.
Architects, builders, DIY’ers, and Trades-people (such as Electricians, Plumbers, etc.) are not Interior Designers; yet they all try to be at times and these are examples of why they perhaps shouldn’t be. Could you imagine functioning in some of these places, how would you clean them or what would you put there? Imagine if the owner had a disability and couldn’t climb a ladder.
Interior Design is its on profession for a reason, and in my biased opinion, totally worth the cost when building or doing a home renovation. It’s better to go with good design and function, with quality and appropriate materials for the project; than high end appliances or fixtures; because those can be changed later if desired. Many people get caught up in what they can see and forget about what they can’t. Space planning, functionailty, ergonomics, appropriateness for users, material selection for its use/location, and cohesive design throughout; these should be the forefront thought of every project; because they’re a lot harder to change down the road.
Don’t spend the bulk of your upfront budget on shiny objects, spend it where it really aught to be. My thought anyway 🙂
Trusting in a designer and trade professionals is worth it’s cost. Let’s hear about those projects you started but didn’t go as planned, or brag about the behind the scenes reno you had done, such as fixing that water leak or upgrading your electrical panel - big ticket items you never get to show off ☺️
IT’S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS ☺️🎄
Starting to look a lot like fall around here and I’m loving it 🥰🍂🍁 A little seasonal staging can go a long way to adding to your curb appeal ❤️🧡💛🤎
It’s been a minute since I’ve had a chance to post but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy!
Current project is underway, we’re adding fire-rated, soundproofing insulation, sound board and drywall between this office/laundry area and secondary suite. With adding custom built-in cabinets around and encasing the washer/dryer, a butcher block counter top above, and a tiled backsplash, this space is about to transform into a functional office space with concealed laundry. Can’t wait to share the “After” pictures!

Did you know that Canada has the highest number of cases of Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis in the world? 1 in every 140 Canadians have it; with someone else getting diagnosed every hour.
Let us help our local community in bringing awareness and advocacy for those battling these incurable auto-immune diseases.

Ever find the PERFECT fixture, but it doesn’t come in the right finish? Time to think outside the box and be bold. 😉
I can’t wait to see what these gorgeous wall sconces look like in our en-suite reno, once refinished in Flat Black 🥰
2021 Cypress Bowl Project 🏠
Often people make the mistake of assuming an Interior Designer’s job is to simply make a space look nice; after all, this is what we see on HGTV! 🤩 Although that’s obviously important, there’s SO MUCH MORE than just what one sees. 🙈🙉🙊
As Interior Designers we’re taught to choose the proper materials, appliances, utility needs, efficiency, life span, bylaws, etc., etc. etc. to not only CREATE THE DESIGN, but to MAKE IT WORK and for YEARS TO COME. ✔️🏠 ❌🏚
Designers take into account things that homeowners, or even builders don’t always think to:
- Weather: temperatures, light, exposure 🌦
- The what, who, and how a space is used 👨👩👧👦👵🏻👴🏼🐾👩🦽👨🏻🦯
- Budget: Realistic expectations, accounting for unseen hiccups, best quality for what you can afford 💳
- Investment Return: Maximize your return by choosing the right upgrades💰
- Life Span: choosing materials that won’t warn or date too quickly 💸
- Safety: Considering existing utilities and necessary upgrades 🔌
- Continuity with the rest of the home/building/neighbourhood 🔄
- Renewabity of a material: not just in how it was created, or the VOC’s, etc. you could be introducing your family too; but also how long it’s life span is, and how easy will it be to properly discard of it at end of life? (Fun fact, LVP Flooring can be recycled; but laminate can’t). The building industry is one of the biggest culprits to contributing to our landfills, this should be taken into account when choosing your materials.♻️
On that note, we’ve done quite a bit of “behind the scenes” work at our Cypress Bowl project to ensure safety, longevity, and efficiency! Including replacing older appliances with HE, such as this new LG Washer and Drier set, as well as upgrading all the toilets with dual flush - all of which will pay for themself in monthly utility savings! As a safety measure, we also replaced the electrical panel, as we found that the particular brand was known to be faulty for arcing and was a leader in fire hazards. We also took this opportunity to upgrade the service so it could more comfortably supply our upgrades. Although it doesn’t have the same revealing factor, it does keep us safe. ❤️
I’ve been asked if our mascot, Sadie matched our design by intent or coincidence; although not purposely executed, I figure it’s all in a designers subconscious 😉
We’ve been busy! 🔨
Exciting en-suite project on the go should be wrapping up in the next couple weeks, included is a sneak peak!
This is the final “major” interior room reno of our Cypress Bowl Project, 10-months in the making!
Stay tuned as, after a few more minor changes and some staging, in the next few months we’ll be posting Before and After photos of the entire project!
It has been an amazing experience, and we can’t wait to share it with you! 🏚🔜🏡
Thank you to the amazing trades people that have helped with the en-suite thus far: , Seaside Electric, and Catalyst Mechanical 🙏🏼
Fur babies are the best clients! Sadie loves her new room under the stairs. 🐶🏠
Cypress Bowl Project, 2021
We could be bias, but we think we have the cutest mascot EVER 🥰
A new understanding of an Open Door business model lol Ok, bad joke. SUPER excited for a new door for a new look. Improves curb appeal and the first impression of a home. I do like to make an entrance 😉 Thanks for making my visions come to life! 2021 Cypress Bowl Project
🎉Mood board time! Planning out the Ensuite for our 2020 Cypress Bowl project!
Who hears “wallpaper” and still cringes 😬?
Those lingering haunts of the hours spent applying it just so and then if you wanted to change it, the headache of removing it 😩. Most of you said “Never Again!” I’m sure. However, now a days it isn’t that bad - really!
The “Peel & Stick” versions out there give the ability to make mistakes and be able to fix them; it’s not a one time shot deal anymore. Best part, when you want to change it up, it just peals off!
An Interior Designer can not only help you with the design, colour, and pattern size for your room; but also ensure you choose the right material for your application and calculate the correct amount with taking pattern repeats into consideration.
Don’t hold back, get creative!
Sneak peak of our current Cypress Bowl project, nothing more to love than a project coming together after months of hard work! 🤩 Thank you for making my design come to life with building the wainscoting on the accent wall; gorgeous craftsmanship as always 🥰
It all starts with the mood board 😍
