Seasonal change means a change in footwear, have a read first. 03/28/2024

A vey good read. Some food for thought.

Seasonal change means a change in footwear, have a read first. Shoes are often a great insight into functional instability. Often this insight can indicate a need for new shoes or visit with us.

Thought this was worth sharing. This is so important to prevent cross contamination.

Wherever you are receiving foot care, whether at home, at a clinic, or a Long Term Care home, your foot care nurse should be using sterile tools. You will know that they are sterile because they will be individually packaged, and opened in front of you. Your foot care nurse should have enough sets of tools for each patient they see that day.

Medical Device Reprocessing with an autoclave is the only acceptable method of sterilizing foot care tools, based on IPAC Canada's standards.

Would you let your dentist, or a surgeon use instruments that were not properly sterilized? Ask your foot care nurse about their tools, before your next appointment.

Interesting information

During , some medications can cause nerve damage, which induces something called Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CINP). Symptoms of CNIP include pain, numbness or tingling in feet, as well as movement issues. Sometimes these symptoms are mild and resolve soon after treatment ends, or sometimes they can be quite severe and last for quite a long time.

Be sure to discuss any symptoms of with your doctor, as soon as they show up. There might be medications which can help.

Protect your feet - wear supportive, cushioned shoes. Sometimes toenails can loosen, and skin can become raw, or peel. Resist the urge to pick at any peeling edges, and be gentle with your toenails. A topical nail strengthener can help too.

A foot care nurse can help with toenails or calluses, or other foot care issues.
