F.I.T Series - Exercise Technique #2 --> The Resistance Band Push-up

This particular exercise adds resistance while pushing up making the exercise more challenging than a regular push-up. Changing resistance band type, length, and hand position allow you to maximize the impact of a simple push-up. These little tricks can accentuate your workout and give you the best results. F.I.T Series - Exercise Technique #1 --> The Feet Elevated Russian Twist

The purpose of this exercise is to engage the lower abdominals, upper abdominals, obliques and erector muscles simultaneously. It allows you to improve balance as well. Ensure full rotation by tapping the ball/weight to the floor and following it with your head. This is Alex's favourite exercise as it efficiently engages multiple areas at once.

Last week's post was directed to women who want to shed some body fat. This week, guys, it's your turn. That's right, I'm talking to you. We all know we need to get off the couch and work out, right? Absolutely. The only problem is that we've become so comfortable that it's nearly impossible for us to feel motivated to schlep to the gym. I get it, I'm as guilty of this as the next guy.

Yeah, going to the gym was a grind for a while, and some days I just don't feel it. We all go through it, and anyone who says anything different is lying. WE ALL have days we don't want to go workout. The only difference between guys in shape and those who aren't is that being healthy is important to them. What that means is they get up (even on days they'd rather not), they go do a workout, and then they relax. It doesn't take long (and it shouldn't), but the benefits are amazing.

Partner training is an excellent way to ensure you stay motivated and engaged with your exercise regime. If you're competitive, it adds an extra edge to every session, since you can compete with each other to see who completes exercises first! I love partner training, and there's absolutely nothing like the camaraderie created between two people who just worked out.

Even if your exercises are done back to back (like a weightlifting session with limited equipment), there's something to be said for having a friend workout with you. Yeah, you can do it alone, but is it going to be as fun? Probably not, since there won't be someone there to egg you on, chit chat with, or even just sweat like crazy through the session with you.

Most people know how to do a push up, or a plank. What about mountain climbers? This exercise is highly underrated when it comes to abdominal and cardiovascular development. We all want 6 pack abs, and yet nobody seems to do this simple yet effective exercise!

Bring the mountain climber into your routine to get more bang for your buck. Similar to the foot elevated Russian Twist (more info on that in another post), this compound core exercise targets a LOT of different muscles. Some of the muscles include your back, hips, and abs, as well as glutes, leg muscles, and even your shoulders. Plus, if you do it right, it even provides cardio benefits! This one simple exercise has so many benefits that I am often surprised at how seldom it is done by anyone serious about their health.

Targeting the abdominal muscles is great, but you know what's better? Hitting a large number of muscles with a relatively simple movement that takes very little practice to master. I don't know about you, but I'd rather get into the gym, do my workout, and then move on with my day. If an exercise like mountain climbers allow me to do that faster, I'm guaranteed to put them in my program. Are they in yours?

All right, I'm taking a bit of a hard line on this. Are you "too busy" to get to the gym? I doubt it.

You're not going to the gym because you don't have accountability. You don't have someone waiting to make sure you drag your butt into the gym. There's nobody who is going to make sure you get the workout you need. Nobody except you.

Do you really want to make changes in your life? Is your health really that important? If you're making excuses, it's not. Get up. Go to the gym. Talk to and hire a personal trainer. If you live too far or don't have access to a gym, find someone who will come to you or work with you online.

There are LOTS of fitness professionals, myself included, who will provide the accountability and inspiration needed to get you moving. That's what we do, and we do it because WE want to help YOU. Stop making excuses. Now.

Chess is a game of strategy that requires knowing all the pieces on the board, and the best strategy to win the game. The same applies to working out. Do you have a plan, or are you floating constantly around the gym, picking random exercises? Or, even worse, are you struggling to find a program you can stick with for a few weeks?
