It is your responsibility to know whether you live on a floodplain, or are exposed to the risk of flooding if a local reservoir or dam fails. Seek knowledge, demand public access to data.

If you're affected, the best of luck to you. If you escaped this round, make sure you have intimate knowledge of your insurance policy. You need to know exactly what is covered, what is your responsibility and if there is a gap for any hazard - tornado, flood, wildfire, overland water, earthquake, hurricane or otherwise, it is up to YOU to find the solution in advance of the event.
Expecting the government to bail out losses is not an acceptable course of action. That may occur and it will likely take months if not years to complete.
For some, this will be a very challenging time, support those impacted, give where you can.
