Hello dancers!
Due to the extremely high temperatures, dancing at the NAC has been postponed until next week. We will dance at Jack Purcell tonight instead.
Only four more weeks until Roberto Bagnoli visits Ottawa for a workshop weekend that is promising to be a lot of fun. We look forward to seeing many of you in Ottawa! If you have already registered, you should have received a confirmation e-mail. If you haven’t registered yet, please keep in mind that if you would like to sign up for dinner, the final date for that is 8 March. Registrations for the workshop and the party will remain open after that date.

Same time, same place, more new dances. Are you already curious what we have in store for you? Our fall dancing ended with a cliffhanger and this winter, our dancing will take us further east. Of course, we will also keep dancing everything that has been taught so far.
It might be cold outside, but we will dance ourselves warm at Jack Purcell Community Centre!
This is just a reminder that tomorrow, Thursday, September 28, teaching will start again! We will start promptly at 7:30 pm with dances that are either completely new, or so ancient that they will feel new again! From 8:30 - 9:50 pm, it is time for requests, and we can dance some more!

What a treat it was to dance at La Fab sur Mill yesterday!
Last Thursday, we had a wonderful time learning Polish folk dances from Andrzej Borowiec from Polanie Dance Group [Ottawa]

Anxious, lonely or angry? Try dancing. A small but growing body of research suggests that such movement may provide more mood benefits than other types of cardio exercise.
At the start of the pandemic, we missed one of our favourite dances so much that we created a cyber-version.
Cyber-Şemamme Semmame is a Kurdish dance, which in the past year has become one of the most popular dances in our club. We normally dance together once or twice a week and...
When the pandemic hit in 2020, IFDO had been dancing every Thursday for 52 years, the only time we did not meet was when a major holiday fell on a Thursday and the community centre was closed. So, to say that COVID-19 threw a wrench into our activities is an understatement.
But, when you love dancing as much as we do, you find a way. We managed to stick together and enjoy our favourite activity as best we could.
After some online adventures during the initial lockdown, we started meeting in person again in the summer of 2020. Dancing during a global pandemic meant that we had to adjust to ever-changing public health regulations and dance at many different locations and in varying weather conditions.
Was this always easy? It certainly was not. Did we succeed? Yes, we did! Thanks to a fabulous executive team and enthusiastic members, our group is still going strong.
