Last fall, we launched Go STEAM, an outreach initiative proudly funded by generous donations to the Ingenium Foundation - Fondation Ingenium . Our Go STEAM team works hard behind the scenes to put together engaging programs to bring into the community that will spark curiosity and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. #StemDay #KidsAndScience #ScienceForAll #ScienceForKids #SteamKids #StemKids

#OTDIH 1895, the X-Ray was discovered by Wilhelm Roentgen. Check out our conservation team’s new toy—The XRF— A non-destructive surface test that hits artifacts with X-rays, then reads the rays that bounce back to it and reveals its chemical makeup. The above artifact was a tray used in a small hospital in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, c. 1952-1964. When the artifact was scanned, the machine detected cobalt (Co) which is not surprising as the colour of the rim is cobalt blue. It also detected silicon (Si), which makes sense since silicates are a key element in ceramics and enamels. 😮 How cool is that! 👏 #XRay #MuseumCurator
