My approach to BODY CONFIDENCE
Inside of all of us is a Queen who never apologizes for her body, ever. She know her worth, value and beauty has zero to do with looks or size.

50+? Time to activate the Queen.
40+? Queen in Training.
Younger? Typically a Princess seeking validation from outside (but never too late to start finding that Inner Queen!)

01/19/2023

My approach to EMOTIONAL EATING
I show you how to embrace and find the brilliance in your emotional eating. I show you how to do it on purpose; with intention and curiosity, (you’re doing it anyways, right?) so you can figure out what you’re truly hungry for.

Want to work together? Just send me a message about 1:1 coaching.

As a Mind-Body Eating Coach:
I don’t do meal plans and recipes
Or shakes and bars
.
I don’t do exercise plans
Or use physical activity as a way to cancel out overeating, lose weight or control body size
.
I don’t weigh chicken or measure out salad dressing
And I’ll never tell you how many grams of carbs to eat
.
I don’t do cheat days
And I’ll never tell you to not keep chocolate in the house
.
I don’t vilify emotional eating or binge eating
Or see it as a sign of failure or lack of willpower
.
I don’t pathologize your extra weight
Or see it as a sign you’re unhealthy, a failure, or lazy
.
I’ll never tell you to weigh daily or weekly
In fact, we may just ditch the scale completely
.
I don’t consider post eat guilt or self-criticism a motivating tool for success
And I’ll don’t believe that “some” shame can be healthy
.
So if I don’t do 👆 - What do I do, as a Mind-Body Eating Coach?
Well...
I do see weight challenges as a doorway that can lead us anywhere…
-->Into diet, food & nutrition, the medical realm, our past, all kinds of work on self…
-->Into how we do relationships, our experience of love, spirituality, work, sexuality, who we are as human beings, our purpose, and so much more.
-->And it’s my belief that it’s something to be explored only if YOU want to explore it.
.
I do use nutritional principles to help get to the bottom of unwanted symptoms and behaviors (overeating, binge eating, emotional eating, fatigue, digestive issues, aches and pains, mobility, slow metabolism)
-->Like experimenting with macronutrient balance to find the right ratio of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrate
.
I also use internal body wisdom as a powerful tool that you can leverage to know when to eat, what to eat, and how much
.
I do use slow, relaxed eating to create more pleasurable food experiences, better digestion, assimilation of nutrients, and metabolism
.
I do use circadian rhythm as a tool (eating most of your food when the sun is highest)
.
I do subscribe to the idea that the “dose makes the poison” when it comes which foods to moderate and which to avoid completely
.
I do explore the top food allergies / sensitivities - gluten, dairy, soy, corn, egg it makes sense to do so
.
I do incorporate movement into daily life that brings you joy (even if it feels a little gritty) and helps move stress through and out the body.
.
I do show you how to embrace and find the brilliance in your emotional eating. I show you how to do it with intention and curiosity, (you’re doing it anyways, right?) so you can figure out what you’re truly hungry for.
.
I do teach you how to tap into the inner Queen, who’s unapologetic about her body, and knows her worth, value, beauty, has ZERO to do with looks or size
.
I do use unconditional body love and body (re)connection practices, to help you feel good IN your body and ABOUT your body
.
I do work with language and to RE-language. Words and how we speak to ourselves matter:
“Cheat, willpower, weak, should, shouldn’t…”
.
I do flag toxic nutritional beliefs and the harm that they do - “food, my appetite, fat in food and on my body - are the enemy”, “less food + more exercise = less weight”…
.
I do call out poisonous perfectionism and the underlying belief that we’ll be happy when we have the perfect body and perfect diet
.
I do support my clients from a lens of love, kindness, compassion and curiosity (and if you ask my clients, a little bit of fun / humour too 🤪)
.
What about you? Are you ready for something different?
If so, please reach out.
I offer a free, no pressure, one-on-one chat, to learn about your struggles and goals, and what it could look like to work together.
And if not, that’s ok too 🙂
I also have a free Facebook group Happy Nourished Woman - with Mind-Body Eating Coach Michelle Filliol to help support you on your food and body journey, if you feel called to check that out.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading till the end. 🙂

If you come to me for help with a weight struggle, here’s the lens through which I view it:

I truly don’t know how much anyone ought to weigh.
You can be in a bigger / fat body and that doesn’t mean you have weight to lose.
You may have zero weight to lose, or a little or a lot.

There is zero science to how much anyone should weigh at any particular time.
People invent weight loss numbers that they give a religious and scientific value to that is based upon nothing substantive.

And then we think that something is wrong with us when we can’t lose this amount of weight, and then we get pulled into lifelong dieting.

Perhaps my perspective on weight is a hell no for you. You want someone that firmly believes that weight loss is possible for you and you want a clear plan to achieve it. I totally understand and respect that.

But if my stance has got your curious or maybe even delights you 🤩, here’s what working together would like like:

💫 Every human has a “natural weight” that the body will shift towards and experience sustainably when we are indeed living in accord with what is “natural” for us.

So we’d get to work exploring what is “natural” for you.
Meaning: the foods that best sustain you, a way of living, thinking, self expressing and conducting yourself that has you fulfilling your potential and following your soul’s code, a lifestyle that is health supportive, an inner world that is healthy, relationships that are healthy and growthful, and an attention to the details of the body that has you ongoingly checking in with yourself to see if you are practicing good habits, and limiting the kinds of energies and toxins that would adversely impact you… and so much more.

So what do you think?
Are you ready to explore your weight struggles with me and see where it leads, all while learning to embrace and honour your body just as it is?

Xx
Mich

P.S. I’m offering free consult calls, to see if we’d be a good fit to work together. Just send me a msg and we can go from there. 🙂

If you are:

✋ Done feeling disappointed in yourself every time you eat
✋ Done feeling like you get no joy at all from your meals (or if you do, you quickly forget about it when the guilt or heartburn kicks in)
✋ Done feeling like crap (after eating or in general)
✋ Done feeling stuck and out of control with food
✋ Done beating yourself up for using food to feel better
✋ Done hating your body, feeling “fat” and moving through the world with your head down
✋ Done with the struggle of getting “back on track”
✋ Done trying to control your body and your eating, just so you can live up to someone else’s impossible bu****it beauty standards

If you are feeling ANY of this 👆, consider working with me! Seriously, I would love to work with you, to help you:

💙 Transform how you eat and relate to food, so you can feel empowered and free
💙 Renew your sense of trust in your body’s innate inner wisdom to know when, what and how much to eat
💙 Feel physically better in your body - more energy, mobility, better digestion
💙 Feel more confident in your skin without having to change a thing about your body
💙 Get pleasure, energy and satisfaction with each meal
💙 Learn how to use food to feel more grounded and connected with yourself
💙 Handle unexpected “detours” with curiosity and self-compassion instead of beating yourself up
💙 Navigate emotional eating with grace, and learn to digest and understand the brilliance behind your emotions
💙 Learn to find the deeper intelligence in your “self-sabotage”

✨ As a Certified Mind-Body Eating Coach, I work with you one-on-one, using coaching strategies and nutrition principles that are nourishing, doable, sustainable, and that yield results.
💫 And I never ever take a one-size-fits all approach, I always work with you to find your unique food body formula.

The Queen is poised and secure, she's confident.
Deep down, she knows her beauty. She ENOYS her beauty.
She ENJOYS HER BODY! (And she doesn’t need to be thin to enjoy it!)
Stepping into your Queenhood, is really about becoming a woman who understands, and can see and feel her beauty on the outside, as she walks through the world.
A practical question to ask yourself, “What can I do today to enjoy my body? It’s embodiment, it’s dropping into the body, because we leave it multiple times a day, get caught in our heads, our emotions, the busy. So ask yourself that question, and find ways to do that every day, and it will help you feel better in your body, and feel more like a Queen.

A Queen doesn't need anybody's approval when it comes to her body.
It shows up as asking your partner, do I look good in this?
Or taking a million selfies, before posting online, to get just the right angle to look as slim, cute and young as possible (*um guilty here)
Worrying about our bodies, extra weight, lumps and bumps and wrinkles.
Looking for approval from the world, so we work really hard, obsess, so much focus and thoughts, on how do I get my body to change, how do I get my body to lose weight, how do I stay thin?
So I can stay safe, and free of judgment, and be untouchable, so I can get all the love.
Cause at the end of the day that’s what we’re looking for. We want to feel loved, but a Queen knows how to give that love to herself.
A Queen is an example to other women and everybody wants to be her.
It’s being a woman who demonstrates being in a body that she loves, that she owns, that she recognizes her own Beauty.
That the beauty doesn’t have to be a checklist. Being thin, not having wrinkles…
Being an example, everyone wants to be you
Holy cow, look how she carries herself, look how she owns and loves her body, no matter what.
Not despite the fact there might be extra pounds.
She just loves all of it, without apology.

BODY HATE + AND THE QUEEN, QUEEN-IN-TRAINING AND PRINCESS ARCHETYPES (WHICH ONE ARE YOU?)
***Let's start with the Princess***
A lot of women are stuck in Princess even if they’re older. The Princess is all about asking her people:
〰️Do you love me?
〰️Am I good enough?
〰Do I look ok?
〰Does this look ok?
〰Am I pretty enough?
It’s all about doubt. Doubting ourselves and getting outside approval from other people. It’s not a fun place to be.
It’s also a normal Phase to be in Princess, -pre-teen, teenage years, in our twenties.
Before Princess, you’re free.
You’re born, you're a toddler, a young child, you don’t have these inhibitions, you have confidence.
You don’t have these worries about your body, until it’s imposed on you. And you start noticing what everyone else believes about bodies, and fatness and wrinkles.
Until all of a sudden you start noticing what everyone else is believing about bodies, and someone makes a comment about your body, or you’re brought to the doctor and they say this child is too heavy.
So that’s the Princess, it can be dominant in the teenage years, our 20s and 30s. We can easily get stuck in Princess, and today's culture supports that but it's not a fun place to be. Nobody wants to be in their 40s 50s 60s 70s and 80s, on their deathbed, worrying about what other people think of their bodies.
***40 + is Queen in Training and Queen is 50 + ***
So if you're 50 + and you don't see yourself in the Queen right now, now is the time!
The Queen is poised and secure, she's confident.
Deep down, she knows her beauty. She ENOYS her beauty.
She ENJOYS HER BODY! (And she doesn’t need to be thin to enjoy it!)
(And hey, I’m not saying you can’t work to lose weight, can’t do the inner and outer work, the food, the nutrition, to release extra weight on your body, if you indeed have weight to lose. But know that your worthiness, your value, your beauty has nothing to do with the size of your body. Like zilch.)

She just loves all of it, without apology.
Queen Training starts now ladies!
If you need help with this, let me know. I’m going through my own stuff with this, my own journey, but I think it’s worth it.
This is where the gold is, this is where the juicyness and the beauty and joy of life is, when we can stop worrying about what our bodies look like, and embrace our bodies.

Remember:
✨A Queen is UNAPOLOGETIC
✨A Queen is an EXAMPLE to others
✨A Queen doesn’t need anyone’s APPROVAL when it comes to her BODY
✨A Queen knows and ENJOYS her BEAUTY
✨A Queen knows and ENJOYS her BODY

Here’s why I think our eating gets messed up, dysregulated, and compulsive.
At the core of it, it’s because we’re constantly getting DISCONNECTED FROM OUR SELF.
This is what needs to be solved for - the disconnection. Not getting our eating under “control”, by focusing on eat less of this, keep X out of the house, following the latest diet, weigh the food, weigh our bodies daily etc. (thanks diet culture!)
--> Here’s the truth as I see it when it comes to our messed up eating:
-you’re eating your feelings because disconnection feels like s**t.
-And disconnection IS the reason you’re overeating on autopilot
-It’s the reason you’re eating foods that feel like s**t in your body. Because the phone is disconnected, you can’t hear your bestie Self calling trying to remind you to eat less sugar because your knees hurt (The call is coming from inside the house y’all!)
WHERE THE MAGIC REALLY IS when it comes to untangling our food and body woes, is focusing on how to MEND the ruptures and get RECONNECTED to Self. Over and over again, because most of our lives aren’t designed to keep us connected to Self.
(You can also redesign your life to support consistent connection to Self, which is a juicier option imo, but it’s all about baby steps… :))
So how do you (re)Connect to your big bad Self so you have more regulated eating, and a more nourishing relationship with food?
Here's a few ideas that help me:
✨making slow, present eating, without screens the norm
✨less time on electronics/social media (not taking your phone to the bathroom!! Working on this one 😉 )
✨movement weaved in throughout the day - walks, yoga, biking, dancing, whatever floats your boat and brings you joy!

1. She believed her bangs were epic 🤩
2. She believed that Northern Reflections sweater was the coolest thing in her closet 😂
3. She believed something was wrong with her body 😞

〰️The first 2 beliefs we’re pretty harmless (no small babies or kittens were ever hurt by big 80’s bangs or sweaters with loons and lakes 😆)
〰️The 3rd belief was a heartbreaking epidemic.
Little girls everywhere were being told that thin and skinny was best.
Told to eat less and diet (remember fat free cheese? 🤢)
To sign up for Weight Watchers.
By their family doctors, their parents, YM magazine.

(And know that I’m not throwing shade or blaming anyone here. I know that a lot of it came from the lens of health and best interest)

Think back to when you were that age. (I was 11)
Did you think you were too fat?
Ugly?
Disgusting?
Not good enough?

What about now?
Do you still think some of the same things?
How many more years have to pass before you can truly love, appreciate, and celebrate the crap out of your body?

Want to learn how? As an Eating and Body Love Coach, I help women do exactly that.
Learn to honour their body through:
✨food, and slow, present, pleasured eating
✨regular embodiment practices, to stay connected to and hear body’s feedback, and allow emotions to flow
✨flipping the script on toxic body beliefs so you can believe at your core that your body is a great place to be - and as a result, feel physically better in your body!
✨and so much more.

If you’re curious to know more, ask me about working together 1:1. I’d love to hear from you!
Or if you just want to share that this resonates with you, I’d love to hear in the comments, or even a personal DM.

"Me: What if it all works out?
Husband: What if it already has?"

Deep thoughts courtesy of my amazing hubby.
Let's all ponder on this one together...

"It's time to move on from self-attack, old outdated science and self limiting beliefs." Marc David

If we're going to create a more nourishing and supportive relationship with food so we can feel good - maybe even awesome - in our bodies, we have to say goodbye to the old ways that just. don't. work.

❕Calories in, calories out.
❕Eat less, move more.
❕Using body hate as fuel for change
❕Seeing ourselves as flawed failures for our emotional eating
❕Believing that thin is the holy grail of health
❕Staying stuck in the perfectionism - all or nothing
❕Fearing pleasure of food, avoidance is best

What about you? What old ways are you ready to say goodbye to?

I love strawberries.
They’re such a treat.
For a long time, I bought them only for the kids.
(cause damn they’re not cheap!)

But lately I’ve realized that I’ve been depriving myself of a simple delicious life pleasure!
My treat list had been limited to the typical stuff like chocolate, chips and cookies.

Not realizing (until now) that eating a bowl of strawberries can be such a sweet experience! (With a little sprinkle of sugar… mmmm 😋🍓)

Cause isn’t that what we’re all craving? Sweeter eating (and life!) experiences? And more of them?
Some of which are just under our nose.

"Safety lies in expression, not repression." - SARK

I found this gem of a quote in SARK's book - Succulent Wild Woman. I was browsing Indigo this weekend (Canada's big book store) determined to spend my Christmas gift card. (I know, I know, 6 months people, who waits that long…because books right!?!) As I was waiting for a book to call my name, there she was - the 20th anniversary edition just released!

Ok I digress…back to the quote... "Safety lies in expression, not repression."
If you're someone who struggles with compulsive eating, sometimes at the root of it, is that eating food provides us with a sense of safety, when things in our world feel unsafe. Emotionally, or maybe even physically. On a micro level, or even macro global scale. Or we may be in a food scarcity mindset, because of childhood experiences, or chronic dieting and restriction.
Eating food can have a calming effect, especially when we eat bigger quantities (forces our bodies to relax while it focuses on digestion), or powerful substances like sugar or flour (think more dopamine hits as you eat it) can make us feel safer in our bodies.
So where does the expression / repression piece come in?
Well, if we are routinely withholding our truth, not speaking up, people pleasing (a form of lying), we are stuffing down and repressing who we truly are.
And when we do that, it triggers a flight or fight response, and we don't feel safe in our bodies, in our being.
And so we find ourselves reaching for food to feel better, to feel safe, and we get stuck in a feel - eat – feel better - loop.
What about you? Do you see the correlation between swallowing down your Truths, along with the chips, and cookies?
Xx
Mich
P.S. If you need any help untangling this food and body stuff, don’t be afraid to reach out. We can chat about 1:1 coaching, to see if it’s a good fit.

If you find yourself uncontrollably reaching for food to feel more grounded, know that nothing has gone wrong.

It really is a brilliant strategy of the body!

If you think about it, eating a bunch of food makes your body more dense, more full, more embodied, more here!

It also gets the digestion going, which is actually, in itself, a very grounding process! Digestion roots us in our midsection, our centre of gravity!

But sometimes, eating to ground isn’t always supportive.

We can overeat, or eat too much of something that doesn’t agree with us - like sugar, which can have the opposite effect of grounding!

So here are a couple quick food and non food tips, if you need help dropping back into your body:

1. Going for protein and good fat rich foods can be very grounding in comparison to other foods. (Link in comments to some a good fat list, if you’re not sure what I mean!)

2. Try anything that will get your body moving, breathing, or using your senses! Movement, breathing, meditation, being out in nature, a creative hobby where you use your hands (knitting, painting, playing an instrument)

Let me know if this is helpful, or if you have anything that works really well for you to feel more grounded, and get back into your body!

"The most courageous, the most challenging and the most healing thing you can do is fall in love with yourself."

Ain't this the truth.

05/24/2022

Struggling with cravings for fatty or fried foods?
Here are a few nutritional rocks to look under:

1-Might be getting too much poor quality protein
2-Might be eating too much fried food (The more you eat, the more you crave, similar to sugar)
3-Might be eating too much sugar (Sort of weird right? but it can happen!)
4-Might not be getting enough fibre
5-Might not be drinking enough water

05/17/2022

"You have to want the body you have before you can have the body you want." - Marc David

I'm sure you've heard this saying before. Here's are my thoughts on it (and this is backed by science btw!)
Every negative thought, belief, and emotion of judgment, shame, disdain, anger, hate, guilt, resentment - towards the body you're in right now, and all its "flaws" and bobos (french for physical hurts) creates stress. It puts you in a physiological stress response. And if you're consciously or subconsciously hating your body in any way, day in, day out, this puts you in chronic sympathetic nervous system dominance - which is nerd speak for a chronic stress state - which is what contributes to unwanted symptoms, dis-ease, and food and eating issues.

So if you want to:
-have better digestion
-more energy
-build more muscle
-burn fat / release legit weight
-have better immunity
-improve your mood
-feel better in your body!
-have more joy in your life!..you have to learn to really "in your bones" want the body you have.

Making a decision to practice body agreement (agreeing to what it is - moving from disdain to a more neutral place) then to appreciation, acceptance, love and maybe even adoration (yes this is possible!) is sooooo important. It's got to be a daily choice, to keep coming back to it, because we live in a world of bu****it body expectations and "norms" that will distract us, and keep us down and in body hate mode. Plus we’re taught to be as****es to ourselves, as a way of motivating ourselves. Which we all know, doesn’t work!

If you need help with any of this, don't be shy to let me know. My 1:1 coaching work delves into this, and so much more.

And if you want to share where you are on your body love or food and body journey, let me know in the comments, or send me a msg. I'd truly love to hear from you.

When it comes to excess sugar cravings, our bodies can play tricks on us - just because we're craving it, doesn't mean that's what our body needs or is lacking. In fact, the body often craves the OPPOSITE of what it needs (what a jerk, right?! 😠)

So a few nutritional rocks to look under when it comes to sugar cravings:

1 - Are you getting enough protein?
2 - Are you eating enough good fats aka Essential Fatty Acids?
3- And lastly, which is an obvious one, like duh right?!! - Are you eating too much sugar? (Cause the more sugar we eat, the more we crave - an old trick of the body in our cave people days, to stock up when the sweet fruit was in season and keep eating it, until it ran out!)

If you have any questions, let me know in the comments, and if you try upping your protein, or the good fats in your diet, let me know if it helps!

xx
Mich

P.S. There can be a lot of other things contributing to sugar cravings, some of which have nothing to do with food. If you want support exploring this in a way that takes into account who you are as a human being and eater, drop me a line.

"A big or (or small) life change may be just what you need to recalibrate your eating - Not another diet."

Sometimes your out-of-control-ness with food has nothing to do with the food. (As I have personally learned (again) over the past 2 years) Sometimes life is calling you to make some changes mama!

Like the decision my husband and made this winter to welcome my inlaws / his parents into our home. As of last week, we are officially a multi-generational family home, and I couldn't be more excited. It's a decision that feels so right.

After a rough isolated 2 years, we welcome the company. Two extra people to love and care for our boys.
Extra sets of hands around the house. *FIL has been anointed the Minister of Garbage and Recycling and proudly accepts his mandate 😁) More interesting and *ahem* lively conversations around the dinner table. Live in child care (where should hubby and I go on vacation?!! 🤪 ) And they get to slow down and enjoy life more and deepen their relationship with their grandkids.

So what change - big or small, is life calling you to make? Sometimes that is the rock to look under, not the # of carbs or grams of sugar you're eating. Often times the eating is the symptoms, the pointer to something greater.
